Al-Husayn ibn Said, from Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr, from Hammad, from al-Halabi, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him: Imam (a.s) said: “If a man owes anything from the fasting of the month of Ramadan, then let him make it up in whichever of the months he wishes, as consecutive days. If he is not able, then let him make it up however he wishes, and let him count the days. If he separates them, that is good, and if he follows them consecutively, that is good.” He (narrator) said: “I asked, ‘What do you think if there remains upon him something from the fasting of (month of) Ramadan, should he make it up in Dhu al-Hijjah?’” Imam (a.s) said: “Yes.”
