Ali ibn Hatim, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad, said: He narrated to me, Ali ibn Ishaq ibn Umarah, from Abd al-Rahman, from Hammad ibn Isa, from Ibrahim ibn Umar, from the (Imams عليه السلام), peace be upon them. And the earlier supplication was narrated with this chain of transmission:
Imam
عليه السلام said: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, indeed You
عز وجل preserved the two young boys due to the righteousness of their parents (meaning the story in Surah Al-Kahf). And the believers supplicated to You
عز وجل and said: ‘Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people.’ (Surah Yunus
10:85–86) O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I implore You
عز وجل by Your mercy, And I implore You
عز وجل by Your Prophet
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, the Prophet of mercy, And I implore You
عز وجل by Ali
عليه السلام and Fatimah
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And I implore You
عز وجل by Hasan
عليه السلام and Husayn
عليه السلام, Your blessings be upon them all. And I implore You
عز وجل by Your names and all of Your pillars, And I implore You
عز وجل by Your Greatest Name, the Greatest, the Greatest, the Most Great, by which if You
عز وجل are called upon, You
عز وجل do not reject that which is closest to Your obedience and farthest from Your disobedience, and most fulfilling of Your covenant, and most decisive in executing Your right. And I ask You
عز وجل to send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and to make my heart firm for Him
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and to make me a grateful servant to You
عز وجل. You
عز وجل will find among Your creation one whom You
عز وجل punish other than me, but I do not find anyone to forgive me except You
عز وجل. You
عز وجل are free of need of my punishment, and I am in need of Your mercy. You
عز وجل are the destination of every complaint, the witness of every secret conversation, the end of every need, the deliverer from every slip, and the helper of every seeker of help. So I ask You
عز وجل to send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And that You
عز وجل protect me by Your obedience from Your disobedience, And by what You
عز وجل love from what You
عز وجل dislike, And by faith from disbelief, And by guidance from misguidance, And by certainty from doubt, And by trustworthiness from betrayal, And by truthfulness from lying, And by right from falsehood, And by piety from sin, And by good from evil, And by remembrance from forgetfulness. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And grant me well-being as long as You
عز وجل keep me alive, And inspire me to be thankful for what You
عز وجل have given me, and be merciful to me.” Then, when you have completed the supplication, prostrate and say in prostration: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and pardon my wrongdoing and my crime through Your forbearance and Your generosity. O’ Lord
عز وجل, O’ Generous One, O’ He
عز وجل whose supplicant is never disappointed, and whose gifts never run out. O’ He
عز وجل who is exalted so there is nothing above Him
عز وجل and O’ He
عز وجل who is near so there is nothing beneath Him
عز وجل. Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and supplicate with whatever you wish.” Then pray two units of prayer, and when you have finished, say: “O’ Support of the one who has no support, O’ Treasure of the one who has no treasure, O’ Reliance of the one who has no reliance, O’ Helper of the one who has no helper, O’ Refuge of the one who has no refuge, O’ Generous in pardon, O’ Excellent in trial, O’ Great in hope, O’ Aid of the weak, O’ Rescuer of the drowning, O’ Deliverer of the doomed, O’ Doer of good, O’ Beautifier, O’ Bestower of blessings, O’ Bountiful Giver. You
عز وجل are the One before whom the darkness of the night and the light of day and the glow of the moon prostrate. And the rays of the sun, and the sound of the flowing water, and the rustling of the trees. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, to You
عز وجل belong the Most Beautiful Names. You
عز وجل have no partner. O’ Lord
عز وجل, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And save us from the Fire by Your pardon, And admit us into Paradise by Your mercy, And marry us to the wide-eyed houris by Your generosity. And send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And act towards me as You
عز وجل are worthy of, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful. “Indeed, You have power over all things.” (Surah Al-Baqarah
2:109)” Then supplicate with whatever you wish, and then pray two units of prayer. When you have finished, say: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You
عز وجل by Your praiseworthy, noble names those which, when they are placed upon things, they become humbled before them, And when good deeds are sought through them, they are attained, And when evil is sought to be averted by them, it is repelled. And I ask You
عز وجل by Your complete words those of which, ‘If all the trees on earth were pens and the sea, with seven more seas to replenish it, were ink, the words of Allah
سبحانه وتعالى would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah
سبحانه وتعالى is Mighty and Wise.’ (Surah Luqman
31:27) O’ Ever-Living, O’ Sustainer, O’ Generous, O’ Most High, O’ Most Great, O’ All-Seeing, O’ Most Seeing of those who see, O’ Most Hearing of those who hear, O’ Swiftest of Reckoners, O’ Wisest of Judges, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful, I ask You
عز وجل by Your might, And I ask You
عز وجل by Your power over whatever You
عز وجل will, And I ask You
عز وجل by everything Your knowledge encompasses, And I ask You
عز وجل by every letter You
عز وجل revealed in a book from among Your books, And by every name through which any of Your angels, messengers, or prophets called upon You
عز وجل, that You
عز وجل send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم.” Then supplicate with whatever occurs to you, then pray two units of prayer. When you have completed them, say: “Glory be to Him
عز وجل who honored Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who chose Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who chose Imam Ali
عليه السلام, peace be upon him. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who favored Hasan
عليه السلام and Husayn
عليه السلام, peace be upon them. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who, through (Sayyida) Fatimah
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, peace be upon her, protected from the Fire those who love her. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who created the heavens and the earth by His
عز وجل permission. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who subjected the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth to the authority of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, peace be upon them. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who created Paradise for (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who shall grant it (paradise) to (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم as inheritance, and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, and their followers (Shi‘ah). Glory be to Him
عز وجل who created the Fire for the enemies of (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who shall grant Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, and their followers, authority over it. Glory be to Him
عز وجل who created this world and the Hereafter, and all that dwells in the night and the day, for (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family. And all praise belongs to Allah
سبحانه وتعالى as befits Allah
عز وجل. Allah
سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest as befits Allah
عز وجل. There is no God but Allah
سبحانه وتعالى as befits Allah
عز وجل. Glory be to Allah
سبحانه وتعالى as befits Allah
عز وجل. There is no power and no strength except with Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, As befits Allah
عز وجل. And may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and upon all the messengers, until Allah
سبحانه وتعالى is pleased. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, among Your favors upon me which are more than can be counted and among Your blessings upon me which are too immense to be neglected is that my enemy is Your enemy. And I have no patience with Your forbearance (toward them), so hasten their destruction, their ruin, and their annihilation.” Then pray two units of prayer. When you have finished, say: “In the Name of Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Indeed I entrust to You
عز وجل in this worldly abode that I bear witness; That there is no God but You
عز وجل, alone, with no partner for You
عز وجل, And that (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم is Your servant and Your messenger, And that the religion is as You
عز وجل have legislated, And Islam is as You
عز وجل have described, And the Book is as You
عز وجل have revealed, And the (its) speech is as You
عز وجل have declared, And that You
عز وجل, You
عز وجل are You
عز وجل. You are Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, the True, the Clear. May Allah
سبحانه وتعالى reward (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, with the best reward, And may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى greet Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم from us with peace.”
