Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Hisham b. Salim. He said: Abu `Abdillah said: A community went to a prophet of theirs and said: Ask your Lord to alleviate us from death. So, he asked on their behalf, and Allah alleviated them from death. They multiplied until their homes became narrow for them. The lineages proliferated. A man would wake up and he would need to feed his father, his mother, his grandfather, his grandfather’s grandfather, and take care of them. They became too busy to seek a livelihood. So, they went to him and said: Ask your Lord to return death to us. So, he asked his Lord, and death returned to them.

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa`d Abadi narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from his father Muhammad b. Khalid from Ahmad b. al-Nadr from Muhammad b. Marwan from Muhammad b. al-Sa’ib from Abi Salih from `Abdullah b. `Abbas. Regarding His saying, “When he recovered, he cried, ‘Glory be to You! I turn to You in repentance and I am the first of the believers’” (7:143) he said: Glory be to You, I repent to You for asking to see You. I am the first of the believers that You cannot be seen.

Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Masrur narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. `Amer narrated to us from his uncle `Abdullah b. `Amer from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Muqatil b. Sulayman. He said: Abu `Abdillah said: When Musa climbed Tur and his Lord whispered to him, he said: O Lord! Show me your treasure. He said: O Musa! Surely, My treasure is that, when I will a thing, I say to it “be!” and it is.

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us from al-Hasan b. al-Husayn b. Aban from Muhammad b. Awrama from `Amr b. `Uthman al-Khazzaz from `Amr b. Shimr from Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju`fi from Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali al-Baqir . He said: Musa b. `Imran said: O Lord! Admonish me. He said: I admonish you of [your duty to] Me. So, he said: O Lord! Admonish me. He said: I admonish you of Me – three times. He said: O Lord! Admonish me. He said: I admonish you of your mother. He said: O Lord! Admonish me. He said: I admonish you of your mother. He said: O Lord! Admonish me. He said: I admonish you of your father. He said: He said, to that ends, that one third of righteousness is for the mother, and one third of righteousness is for the father.

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Kufi from Abi `Abdillah al-Khayyat from `Abdullah b. al-Qasim from `Abdullah b. Sinan from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq . He said: Among that which Allah revealed to Musa b. `Imran is: Be [like] a worn-out robe, pure of heart, reclusive in your house, and a lantern in the night, and you will be known to the people of heaven and hidden from the people of Earth. O Musa! Beware of being insistent, and do not be of those who walk without purpose, and do not laugh without astonishment. Weep over your mistakes, O son of `Imran.

Ahmad b. Ziyad b. Ja`far al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Hisham b. Salim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said: Nuh lived for two thousand five hundred years. From them, he lived eight hundred and fifty years before he was commissioned, and he called to his community for nine hundred and fifty years, and he lived seven hundred years after disembarking from the Ark – and the water dried from region to region – and his descendants settled in the countries. Then, the Angel of Death came to him while he was in the sun, so he said to him: Peace be with you. So, Nuh replied. Then, he said: What has brought you here, O Angel of Death? So, he said: I have come to take your soul. He said: Will you allow me to move from the sun to the shade? So, he said: Yes. So, Nuh moved from the sun to the shade. Then, he said: O Angel of Death! My time in this world is like my movement from the sun to the shade; now do what you were commanded to do. He said: So, he took his soul.

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Kufi from Sharif b. Sabiq al-Taflisi from Ibrahim b. Muhammad from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: `Isa b. Maryam passed by a grave whose occupant was being punished. Then, he passed by it again the following year, and he was not being punished. So, he said: “O Lord! I passed by this grave last year, and its occupant was being punished. Then, I passed by it this year, and I found that he was not being punished.” So, Allah revealed to him: “O Spirit of Allah! He has a righteous son who rectified a path and sheltered an orphan, so he was forgiven due to what his son had done.” He said: `Isa b. Maryam said to Yahya b. Zakariyya : If something true [of evil] is said about you, then know that it is a sin, so ask for Allah’s forgiveness for it. If something false is said about you, then know that a good deed will be recorded for you without needing to toil for it.

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid narrated to us from his father from Khalaf b. Hammad from Abi’l Hasan al-`Abdi from Sulayman b. Mehran from Abi Ishaq from `Amr b. Habashi from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib . He said: No banner proceeded to battle against Amir al-Mu’minin except that Allah defeated it [through him] and made him triumphant over its companions and made them turn back in shame. None struck by Amir al-Mu’minin’s sword, the dhulfiqar, prevailed. When he would fight, Gabriel would fight on his right side, Michael would be on his left side, and the Angel of Death would be in front of him.

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Saqr al-Sa’igh narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-`Abbas b. Bassam narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Khalid b. Ibrahim narrated to us. He said: Suwayd b. `Abd al-`Aziz al-Dimishqi narrated to us from `Abdullah b. Lahi`a from Abi Qubayl from `Abdullah b. `Amr b. al-`As. He said: On the day of Khaybar, the Messenger of Allah (s) gave the flag to a man from his companions. Then, he returned defeated. Then, he gave it to another, who behaved cowardly, and the flag returned defeated. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: Tomorrow, I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him. He will not return until Allah conquers by his hand. When he awoke, he said: Call for `Ali for me. It was said to him: O Messenger of Allah! His eye in infected. So, he said: Call for him. When he came, the Messenger of Allah (s) spit in his eye and said: O Allah! Repel heat and cold from him. Then, he gave the flag to him and he went forth. He did not return to the Messenger of Allah (s) except that Khaybar was conquered. Then, he said: When he approached [Mount] Qamus, the enemies of Allah from the Jews came forth and shot arrows and stones at him. `Ali rode toward them until he approached the gate. Then, he disembarked angrily, went to the gate, and wrenched it off its hinges. Then, he threw it forty armlengths behind his back. Forty men tried to carry it, but hey could not handle it. So, the Prophet (s) was informed of that, and he said: By He in whose hand is my soul! Forty angels supported him in that.

It is reported that Amir al-Mu’minin wrote in his letter to Sahl b. Hanif : By Allah, I did not wrench the gate of Khaybar and throw it forty armlengths behind my back by the power of my body nor by a regimen. Rather, I was assisted by an angelic power and a soul illuminated by its Lord. I am of Ahmad just as light is of light. By Allah, had the Arabs unified upon my killing, I would not flee, and had I been given a chance to strike their necks, none would remain. He who is awaited by Gardens does not mind death. This was narrated to me along with its entire letter by Ahmad b. Musa al-Daqqaq . He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us from Abi Bakr `Ubaydullah b. Musa al-Hibal al-Tabari. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn al-Khashab narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Muhsan narrated to us from Yunus b. Thibyan from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers .
