Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (rh) narrated to us. He said: al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-`Aziz b. Yahya narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Sahl narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Muhammad al-Balwi narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. `Abdullah narrated to me from his father from Zayd b. `Ali from his father from his grandfather from `Ali (as). He said: The masters of the people of this world are the generous; and [the masters] of the Hereafter are the pious.

2 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، قال: حدثنا هارون بن مسلم، عن مسعدة بن صدقة، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): للمؤمن على المؤمن سبعة حقوق واجبة من الله عز وجل عليه: الاجلال له في عينه، والود له في صدره، والمواساة له في ماله، وأن يحرم غيبته، وأن  يعوده في مرضه، وأن يشيع جنازته، وأن لا يقول فيه بعد موته إلا خيرا (1).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari narrated to us. He said: Harun b. Muslim narrated to us from Mas`ada b. Sadaqa from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The believers have seven rights over one another that Allah has obligated for them: (1) honour regarding his eye, (2) love regarding his heart, (3) being considerate with his wealth, (4) the prohibition of backbiting him, (5) visitation of him when he is ill, (6) attending his funeral, and (7) that nothing is said about him after his death except that which is good.

3 - حدثنا الحسين (2) بن أحمد بن إدريس (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن محمد بن سنان، قال: حدثنا أبو الجارود زياد بن المنذر، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن ابن عباس، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): ولاية علي بن أبي طالب ولاية الله، وحبه عبادة الله، واتباعه فريضة الله، وأوليائه أولياء الله، وأعداؤه أعداء الله، وحربه حرب الله، وسلمه سلم الله عزوجل (3).

Al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. Idris (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from Muhammad b. Sinan. He said: Abu’l Jarud Ziyad b. al-Mundhir narrated to us from Sa`id b. Jubayr from Ibn `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The wilaya of Amir al-Mu’minin is the wilaya of Allah. Loving him is the worship of Allah. Obeying him is obligated by Allah. His friends are the friends of Allah, his enemies are the enemies of Allah, his war is Allah’s war, and his peace is Allah’s peace.

4 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد الدقاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن هارون الصوفي، عن عبيد الله بن موسى الروياني، عن عبد العظيم بن عبد الحسني، عن سليمان بن جعفر الجعفري، قال: سمعت موسى بن جعفر (عليهما السلام) يقول: حدثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن سيد العابدين علي بن الحسين، عن سيد الشهداء الحسين بن علي ابن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، قال: مر أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) برجل يتكلم بفضول الكلام، فوقف عليه، ثم قال: إنك تملي على حافظيك كتابا إلى ربك، فتكلم بما يعنيك ودع ما لا يعنيك (4).

أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام

...ثم قال

`Ali b. Ahmad al-Daqqaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us from `Ubaydullah b. Musa al-Rawyani from `Abd al-`Athim b. `Abd al-Husni from Sulayman b. Ja`far al-Ja`fari. He said: I heard Musa b. Ja`far (as) say: My father narrated to me from his father from the Master of Worshipers `Ali b. al-Husayn from the Master of Martyrs al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as).  He said: Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) passed by a man who was speaking superfluously. So, he stopped by him, and then said: Surely, you are dictating a letter to your Lord through your two guardian [angels]. So, speak about what concerns you, and leave that which does not concern you.

5 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن أحمد ابن محمد بن عيسى، عن نوح بن شعيب النيسابوري، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله الدهقان، عن عروة بن أخي شعيب العقرقوقي، عن شعيب، عن أبي بصير، قال: سمعت الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام) يحدث عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يوما لاصحابه: أيكم يصوم الدهر؟ فقال سلمان (رحمة الله عليه): أنا يا رسول الله. فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): فأيكم يحيي الليل؟ فقال سلمان: أنا يا رسول الله. قال: فأيكم يختم القرآن في كل يوم؟ فقال سلمان: أنا  يا رسول الله. فغضب بعض أصحابه، فقال: يا رسول الله، إن سلمان رجل من الفرس، يريد أن يفتخر علينا معاشر قريش، قلت: أيكم يصوم الدهر؟ فقال: أنا، وهو أكثر أيامه يأكل. وقلت: أيكم يحيي الليل؟ فقال: أنا، وهو أكثر ليله نائم. وقلت: أيكم يختم القرآن في كل يوم؟ فقال: أنا، وهو أكثر نهاره صامت. فقال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): مه يا فلان، أنى لك بمثل لقمان الحكيم، سله فإنه ينبئك. فقال الرجل لسلمان: يا أبا عبد الله، أليس زعمت أنك تصوم الدهر؟ فقال: نعم. فقال: رأيتك في أكثر نهارك تأكل! فقال: ليس حيث تذهب، إني أصوم الثلاثة في الشهر، وقال الله عزوجل: (من جاء بالحسنة فله عشر أمثالها) (1) وأصل شعبان بشهر رمضان، فذلك صوم الدهر، فقال: أليس زعمت أنك تحيي الليل؟ فقال: نعم. فقال: أنت أكثر ليلك نائم! فقال: ليس حيث تذهب، ولكني سمعت حبيبي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: من بات على طهر فكأنما أحيا الليل كله، فأنا أبيت على طهر. فقال: أليس زعمت أنك تختم القرآن في كل يوم؟ قال: نعم، قال: فأنت أكثر أيامك صامت! فقال: ليس حيث تذهب، ولكني سمعت حبيبي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول لعلي (عليه السلام): يا أبا الحسن، مثلك في أمتي مثل سورة التوحيد (قل هو الله أحد) (2) فمن قرأها مرة فقد قرأ ثلث القرآن، ومن قرأها مرتين فقد قرأ ثلثي القرآن، ومن قرأها ثلاثا فقد ختم القرآن، فمن أحبك بلسانه فقد كمل له ثلث الايمان، ومن أحبك بلسانه وقلبه فقد كمل له ثلثا الايمان، ومن أحبك بلسانه وقلبه ونصرك بيده فقد استكمل الايمان، والذي بعثني بالحق يا علي، لو أحبك أهل الارض كمحبة أهل السماء لك لما عذب أحد بالنار، وأنا أقرأ (قل هو الله أحد) في كل يوم ثلاثا مرات. فقام وكأنه قد ألقم حجرا (3).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from Nuh b. Shu`ayb al-Nishapuri from `Ubaydullah b. `Abdullah al-Dahqan from `Urwa the nephew of Shu`ayb al-`Aqraquqi from Shu`ayb from Abi Basir. He said: I heard al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) narrate from his father from his forefathers as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said one day to his companions: Which of you fast the whole year? So, Salman (ra) said: I, O Messenger of Allah. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: So, which of you keep vigil at night? So, Salman said: I, O Messenger of Allah. He said: So, which of you completes the Quran every day? So, Salman said: I, O Messenger of Allah.  So, one of his companions became angry and said: O Messenger of Allah! Salman is a man from Persia, and he wants to boast pretentiously over us, the people of Quraysh. You said, “Which of you fast the whole year?”, and he said, “I”, when he eats on most days. You said, “Which of you keep vigil at night?”, and he said, “I”, when he sleeps most of the night. You said, “Which of you completes the Quran everyday?”, and he said, “I”, when he is silent for most of the day.” So, the Prophet (s) said: Cease, O person. I am to you as Luqman the Wise was. Ask him, and he will inform you. So, the man said to Salman: O Aba `Abdillah! Did you not allege that you fast every day? So, he said: Yes. So, he said: I saw you eating on most days! So, he said: It is not as you have interpreted, for I fast three days in a month, and Allah says, “Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten the like thereof.” (6:160) And, I connect Sha`ban with the month of Ramadan, which is like fasting the whole year. So, he said: Did you not allege that you keep vigil at night? So, he said: Yes. So, he said: You sleep for most of the night! So, he said: It is not as you have interpreted, for I have heard my Beloved, the Messenger of Allah (s) say: “Whoever goes to sleep in a state of [ritual] purity, it is as though he has kept vigil all night”, and I go to sleep in a state of purity. So, he said: Did you not allege that you complete the Quran every day? He said: Yes. He said: But you are silent on most days. So, he said: It is not as you have interpreted, as I have heard my Beloved, the Messenger of Allah (s) say to `Ali (as): “O Abu’l Hasan! Your likeness to my Nation is like that of Surat al-Tawhid (qul huwallahu ahad), for whoever recites it once, it is as though he has recited one third of the Quran; and whoever recites it twice, it is as though he has recited two thirds of the Quran; and whoever recites it three times, it is as though he has completed the Quran. [Likewise,] whoever loves you with his tongue has completed one third of faith, and whoever loves you with his tongue and his heart has completed two thirds of faith, and whoever loves you with his tongue and his heart, and supports you with his hand has completed [his] faith. By He who has sent me with the truth! O `Ali, if the people of the Earth loved you in the same way that the people of heaven love you, no one would be punished in the Fire.” And, I read qul huwallahu ahad three times every day. Then, the man stood as though he had been pelted with a stone.

حدثنا جعفر بن علي بن الحسن بن علي بن عبد الله بن المغيرة الكوفي، قال: حدثنا جدي الحسن بن علي، عن جده عبد الله بن المغيرة، عن إسماعيل بن مسلم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): كانت الفقهاء والحكماء إذا كاتب بعضهم بعضا، كتبوا بثلاث ليس معهن رابعة، من كانت الآخرة همه كفاه الله همه من الدنيا، ومن أصلح سريرته أصلح الله علانيته، ومن أصلح فيما بينه وبين الله عزوجل أصلح الله له فيما بينه وبين الناس (1).

أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام

Ja`far b. `Ali b. al-Hasan b. `Ali b. `Abdullah b. al-Mughira al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: My grandfather al-Hasan b. `Ali narrated to us from his grandfather `Abdullah b. al-Mughira from Isma`il b. Muslim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said: When the scholars and the wisemen of the past wrote to one another, they wrote only about three things, without a fourth: (1) Whoever is worried about the Hereafter, Allah will take care of his worries in this world. (2) Whoever rectifies his inner self, Allah will rectify his outer self. (3) Whoever rectifies that which is between him and Allah, Allah will rectify that which is between him and the people.

7 - حدثنا محمد بن علي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن محمد ابن عيسى، عن منصور، عن هشام بن سالم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: ليس يتبع الرجل بعد موته من الاجر إلا ثلاث خصال: صدقة أجراها في حياته فهي تجري بعد موته، وسنة هدى سنها، فهي يعمل بها بعد موته، وولد صالح يستغفر له (2).

Muhammad b. `Ali (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from Muhammad b. `Isa from Mansur from Hisham b. Salim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: No reward will follow a man after his death except in three things: (1) A continuous deed (sadaqa jariya) that he had established in his life that continues after his death. (2) A tradition of guidance that continues after his death. (3) A righteous child that seeks repentance for him.

8 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم بن ناتانه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن جعفر بن سلمة الاهوازي، عن إبراهيم بن محمد، قال: حدثنا أبو الحسين علي بن المعلى الاسدي، قال أنبئت عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام) أنه قال: إن لله بقاعا تسمى المنتقمة، فإذا أعطى الله عبدا مالا لم يخرج حق الله عزوجل منه، سلط الله عليه بقعة من تلك البقاع، فأتلف ذلك المال فيها، ثم مات وتركها (3).

أنه قال

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Natanah (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hisham narrated to us from Ja`far b. Salama al-Ahwazi from Ibrahim b. Muhammad. He said: Abu’l Husayn `Ali b. al-Mu`alla al-Asadi narrated to us. He said: I was told that al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Surely, for Allah there is a region called Vengeance. When Allah gives a worshiper wealth, with which he does not give Allah that which is due to Him from it, Allah will give him land from that region, wherein the money will dissipate and he will abandon it.

9 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، وسعد بن عبد الله، عن عمران بن موسى، عن الحسن بن علي بن  النعمان، عن محمد بن فضيل، عن غزوان الضبي، قال: أخبرني عبد الرحمن بن إسحاق، عن النعمان بن سعد، عن أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام)، قال: أنا حجة الله، وأنا خليفة الله، وأنا صراط الله، وأنا باب الله، وأنا خازن علم الله، وأنا المؤتمن على سر الله، وأنا إمام البرية بعد خير الخليقة محمد نبي الرحمة (صلى الله عليه وآله) (1).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari and Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from `Imran b. Musa from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. al-Nu`man from Muhammad b. Fudayl from Ghazwan al-Dabi. He said: `Abd al-Rahman b. Ishaq informed me from al-Nu`man b. Sa`d from Amir al-Mu’minin (as). He said: I am the Proof of Allah, the Caliph of Allah, the Path of Allah, the Gate of Allah, the Treasury of Allah’s Knowledge, the Keeper of Allah’s Secret, and the Imam of the World after the Greatest of Creation, Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy (s).

10 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن عبد الله بن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن جده أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، قال: حدثني سليمان بن مقبل المديني، قال: حدثني موسى بن جعفر، عن أبيه جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه محمد بن علي، عن أبيه علي بن الحسين، عن أبيه الحسين بن علي، عن أبيه أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، قال: دخلت على رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وهو في مسجد قبا وعنده نفر من أصحابه، فلما بصر بي تهلل وجهه وتبسم حتى نظرت إلى بياض أسنانه تبرق، ثم قال: إلي يا علي، إلي يا علي، فما زال يدنيني حتى ألصق فخذي بفخذه، ثم أقبل على أصحابه، فقال: معاشر أصحابي، أقبلت إليكم الرحمة بإقبال علي أخي إليكم. معاشر أصحابي، إن عليا مني وأنا من علي، روحه من روحي، وطينته من طينتي، وهو أخي ووصيي، وخليفتي على أمتي في حياتي وبعد موتي، من أطاعه أطاعني، ومن وافقه وافقني، ومن خالفه خالفني (2).

ع قال دخلت على

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Barqi narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah. He said: Sulayman b. Muqbil al-Medini narrated to me. He said: Musa b. Ja`far narrated to me from his father Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father Muhammad b. `Ali from his father `Ali b. al-Husayn from his father al-Husayn b. `Ali from his father Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: I visited the Messenger of Allah (s) in the Quba Mosque, and with him was a group of his companions. When he saw me, his face became jubilant, and he smiled until I saw his white, shining teeth. Then, he said: To me, O `Ali; to me, O `Ali. Then, he began to hold me closely, until my thigh touched his thigh. Then, he faced his companions and said: O my companions! I have presented mercy to you by presenting `Ali as my brother to you. O my companions! Surely, `Ali is from me, and I am from `Ali. His spirit is from my spirit, and his clay is from my clay. He is my brother, my deputy, and my vicegerent over my Nation in my lifetime and after my death. Whoever obeys him has obeyed me, whoever supports him has supported me, and whoever opposes him has opposed me.

11 - حدثنا جعفر بن محمد بن مسرور (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا الحسين بن محمد بن عامر، عن عمه عبد الله بن عامر، قال: حدثنا أبو أحمد محمد بن زياد الازدي، عن أبان بن عثمان، قال: حدثنا أبان بن تغلب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من سره أن يحيا حياتي ويموت ميتتي، ويدخل  جنة عدن منزلي، ويمسك قضيبا غرسه ربي عزوجل، ثم قال له: كن فيكون (1)، فليتول علي بن أبي طالب، وليأتم بالاوصياء من ولده، فإنهم عترتي، خلقوا من طينتي، إلى الله أشكو أعداءهم من امتي، المنكرين لفضلهم، القاطعين فيهم صلتي، وايم الله ليقتلن بعدي ابني الحسين، لا أنالهم الله شفاعتي (2).
