Muhammad b. al-Hasan narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari narrated to us. He said: Harun b. Muslim narrated to us from Mas`ada b. Sadaqa from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers from `Ali b. Abi Talib . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The believers have seven rights over one another that Allah has obligated for them: (1) honour regarding his eye, (2) love regarding his heart, (3) being considerate with his wealth, (4) the prohibition of backbiting him, (5) visitation of him when he is ill, (6) attending his funeral, and (7) that nothing is said about him after his death except that which is good.

Al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from Muhammad b. Sinan. He said: Abu’l Jarud Ziyad b. al-Mundhir narrated to us from Sa`id b. Jubayr from Ibn `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The wilaya of Amir al-Mu’minin is the wilaya of Allah. Loving him is the worship of Allah. Obeying him is obligated by Allah. His friends are the friends of Allah, his enemies are the enemies of Allah, his war is Allah’s war, and his peace is Allah’s peace.

`Ali b. Ahmad al-Daqqaq narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us from `Ubaydullah b. Musa al-Rawyani from `Abd al-`Athim b. `Abd al-Husni from Sulayman b. Ja`far al-Ja`fari. He said: I heard Musa b. Ja`far say: My father narrated to me from his father from the Master of Worshipers `Ali b. al-Husayn from the Master of Martyrs al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib passed by a man who was speaking superfluously. So, he stopped by him, and then said: Surely, you are dictating a letter to your Lord through your two guardian [angels]. So, speak about what concerns you, and leave that which does not concern you.

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from Nuh b. Shu`ayb al-Nishapuri from `Ubaydullah b. `Abdullah al-Dahqan from `Urwa the nephew of Shu`ayb al-`Aqraquqi from Shu`ayb from Abi Basir. He said: I heard al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad narrate from his father from his forefathers as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said one day to his companions: Which of you fast the whole year? So, Salman said: I, O Messenger of Allah. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: So, which of you keep vigil at night? So, Salman said: I, O Messenger of Allah. He said: So, which of you completes the Quran every day? So, Salman said: I, O Messenger of Allah. So, one of his companions became angry and said: O Messenger of Allah! Salman is a man from Persia, and he wants to boast pretentiously over us, the people of Quraysh. You said, “Which of you fast the whole year?”, and he said, “I”, when he eats on most days. You said, “Which of you keep vigil at night?”, and he said, “I”, when he sleeps most of the night. You said, “Which of you completes the Quran everyday?”, and he said, “I”, when he is silent for most of the day.” So, the Prophet (s) said: Cease, O person. I am to you as Luqman the Wise was. Ask him, and he will inform you. So, the man said to Salman: O Aba `Abdillah! Did you not allege that you fast every day? So, he said: Yes. So, he said: I saw you eating on most days! So, he said: It is not as you have interpreted, for I fast three days in a month, and Allah says, “Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten the like thereof.” (6:160) And, I connect Sha`ban with the month of Ramadan, which is like fasting the whole year. So, he said: Did you not allege that you keep vigil at night? So, he said: Yes. So, he said: You sleep for most of the night! So, he said: It is not as you have interpreted, for I have heard my Beloved, the Messenger of Allah (s) say: “Whoever goes to sleep in a state of [ritual] purity, it is as though he has kept vigil all night”, and I go to sleep in a state of purity. So, he said: Did you not allege that you complete the Quran every day? He said: Yes. He said: But you are silent on most days. So, he said: It is not as you have interpreted, as I have heard my Beloved, the Messenger of Allah (s) say to `Ali : “O Abu’l Hasan! Your likeness to my Nation is like that of Surat al-Tawhid (qul huwallahu ahad), for whoever recites it once, it is as though he has recited one third of the Quran; and whoever recites it twice, it is as though he has recited two thirds of the Quran; and whoever recites it three times, it is as though he has completed the Quran. [Likewise,] whoever loves you with his tongue has completed one third of faith, and whoever loves you with his tongue and his heart has completed two thirds of faith, and whoever loves you with his tongue and his heart, and supports you with his hand has completed [his] faith. By He who has sent me with the truth! O `Ali, if the people of the Earth loved you in the same way that the people of heaven love you, no one would be punished in the Fire.” And, I read qul huwallahu ahad three times every day. Then, the man stood as though he had been pelted with a stone.

Ja`far b. `Ali b. al-Hasan b. `Ali b. `Abdullah b. al-Mughira al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: My grandfather al-Hasan b. `Ali narrated to us from his grandfather `Abdullah b. al-Mughira from Isma`il b. Muslim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: When the scholars and the wisemen of the past wrote to one another, they wrote only about three things, without a fourth: (1) Whoever is worried about the Hereafter, Allah will take care of his worries in this world. (2) Whoever rectifies his inner self, Allah will rectify his outer self. (3) Whoever rectifies that which is between him and Allah, Allah will rectify that which is between him and the people.

Muhammad b. `Ali narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from Muhammad b. `Isa from Mansur from Hisham b. Salim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said: No reward will follow a man after his death except in three things: (1) A continuous deed (sadaqa jariya) that he had established in his life that continues after his death. (2) A tradition of guidance that continues after his death. (3) A righteous child that seeks repentance for him.

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Natanah narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hisham narrated to us from Ja`far b. Salama al-Ahwazi from Ibrahim b. Muhammad. He said: Abu’l Husayn `Ali b. al-Mu`alla al-Asadi narrated to us. He said: I was told that al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad said: Surely, for Allah there is a region called Vengeance. When Allah gives a worshiper wealth, with which he does not give Allah that which is due to Him from it, Allah will give him land from that region, wherein the money will dissipate and he will abandon it.

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari and Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from `Imran b. Musa from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. al-Nu`man from Muhammad b. Fudayl from Ghazwan al-Dabi. He said: `Abd al-Rahman b. Ishaq informed me from al-Nu`man b. Sa`d from Amir al-Mu’minin . He said: I am the Proof of Allah, the Caliph of Allah, the Path of Allah, the Gate of Allah, the Treasury of Allah’s Knowledge, the Keeper of Allah’s Secret, and the Imam of the World after the Greatest of Creation, Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy (s).

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Barqi narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah. He said: Sulayman b. Muqbil al-Medini narrated to me. He said: Musa b. Ja`far narrated to me from his father Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father Muhammad b. `Ali from his father `Ali b. al-Husayn from his father al-Husayn b. `Ali from his father Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib . He said: I visited the Messenger of Allah (s) in the Quba Mosque, and with him was a group of his companions. When he saw me, his face became jubilant, and he smiled until I saw his white, shining teeth. Then, he said: To me, O `Ali; to me, O `Ali. Then, he began to hold me closely, until my thigh touched his thigh. Then, he faced his companions and said: O my companions! I have presented mercy to you by presenting `Ali as my brother to you. O my companions! Surely, `Ali is from me, and I am from `Ali. His spirit is from my spirit, and his clay is from my clay. He is my brother, my deputy, and my vicegerent over my Nation in my lifetime and after my death. Whoever obeys him has obeyed me, whoever supports him has supported me, and whoever opposes him has opposed me.

Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Masrur narrated to us. He said: al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. `Amer narrated to us from his uncle `Abdullah b. `Amer. He said: Abu Ahmad Muhammad b. Ziyad al-Azdi narrated to us from Aban b. `Uthman. He said: Aban b. Taghlub narrated to us from `Ikrama from Ibn `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: If it makes one happy to live my life, die my death, join my rank in the Garden of Eden, and grasp onto the bark [of a tree] planted by my Lord – after which He said “be! And it is” – then he should align with `Ali b. Abi Talib and accept the deputies from his descendants; for they are my progeny, who were created from my clay. I complain to Allah about their enemies from my Nation, who deny their virtue, who cut away my bloodline through them. By Allah! My son, al-Husayn, will be killed after me – and Allah will not give them my intercession.
