Al-Amālī

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الفقيه أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى بن بابويه القمي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن علي بن الحكم، عن داود بن النعمان، عن سيف التمار، عن أبي بصير، قال: قال الصادق أبو عبد الله جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): إن العبد لفي فسحة من أمره ما بينه وبين أربعين سنة، فإذا بلغ أربعين سنة أوحى الله عزوجل إلى ملكيه: إني قد عمرت عبدي عمرا، فغلظا وشددا وتحفظا، واكتبا عليه قليل عمله وكثيره، وصغيره وكبيره (1).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Dawud b. al-Nu`man from Sayf al-Tammar from Abi Basir. He said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Surely, the servant has an expanse of time between him and forty years of age. Once he reaches forty years of age, Allah reveals to His two angels: “I have allowed My servant to live a life, so coarsen, stiffen, restrain for him; and record the paucity and the abundance of his deeds, and his minor and major sins.

2 - وسئل الصادق (عليه السلام) عن قول الله عزوجل: (أو لم نعمركم ما يتذكر فيه من تذكر) (2) فقال: توبيخ لابن ثماني عشرة سنة (3).

Al-Sadiq (as) was asked about the saying of Allah, “Did We not give you lives long enough so that whoever wanted to be mindful could have done so?” (35:37) So, he said: A rebuke to one who has reached eighteen years of age.

3 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن سلمة بن الخطاب، عن علي بن الحسن، عن أحمد بن محمد المؤدب، عن عاصم بن حميد، عن خالد القلانسي، قال: قال الصادق جعفر ابن محمد (عليهما السلام): يؤتى بشيخ يوم القيامة فيدفع إليه كتابه، ظاهره مما يلي الناس، لا يرى إلا مساوئ، فيطول ذلك عليه، فيقول: يا رب، أتأمر بي إلى النار! فيقول الجبار جل جلاله: يا شيخ، إني أستحيي أن أعذبك وقد كنت تصلي في دار الدنيا، اذهبوا بعبدي إلى الجنة (1).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Salama b. al-Khattab from `Ali b. al-Hasan from Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Mu’addab from `Asim b. Humayd from Khalid al-Qalanisi. He said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: An elderly man will come on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be given his book. On the apparent, it will have what he partook in by following the people, and he will only see disappointment. That will be prolonged for him; so, he will say: “O Lord! Will you send me to the Fire?!” So, the Almighty will say: “O elderly man! I would be ashamed to punish you because you would pray in the abode of the world. Go with My servants to Paradise.”

4 - حدثنا محمد بن علي، قال: حدثنا علي بن محمد بن أبي القاسم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمر العدني بمكة، عن أبي العباس بن حمزة، عن أحمد بن سوار، عن عبيد (2) الله بن عاصم، عن سلمة، بن وردان، عن أنس بن مالك، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): المؤمن إذا مات وترك ورقة واحدة عليها علم، تكون تلك الورقة يوم القيامة سترا فيما بينه وبين النار، وأعطاه الله تبارك وتعالى بكل حرف مكتوب عليها مدينة أوسع من الدنيا سبع مرات، وما من مؤمن يقعد ساعة عند العالم، إلا ناداه ربه عزوجل: جلست إلى حبيبي، وعزتي وجلالي لاسكننك الجنة معه ولا ابالي (3).

Muhammad b. `Ali narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Muhammad b. Abi’l Qasim narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umar al-`Adani in Meca from Abi’l `Abbas b. Hamza from Ahmad b. Sawar from `Ubaydallah b. `Asim from Salama b. Wardan from Anas b. Malik. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: If a believer dies, leaving behind one sheet of knowledge, that sheet will be a curtain between him and the Fire on the Day of Resurrection. For every letter written on it, Allah will grant him a city that is seven times wider than this world. A believer does not sit to learn for one moment except that his Lord calls to him, saying: “You have sat to attend to My beloved. By My glory and My majesty! I will have you live in Paradise with it, regardless [of your sins].”

5 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد السناني المكتب، قال: حدثنا محمد بن هارون الصوفي، قال: حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى الحبال الطبري، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسين الخشاب، قال: حدثنا محمد بن محصن، عن يونس بن ظبيان، قال: قال الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): إن الناس يعبدون الله عزوجل على ثلاثة أوجه: فطبقة يعبدونه رغبة في ثوابه، فتلك عبادة الحرصاء وهو الطمع، وآخرون يعبدونه خوفا (4) من النار فتلك عبادة العبيد، وهي رهبة، ولكني أعبده حبا له عزوجل فتلك عبادة الكرام، وهو الامن، لقوله عزوجل: (وهم من فزع يومئذ ءامنون) (1)، ولقوله عز وجل: (قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم الله ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم) (2) فمن أحب الله أحبه الله، ومن أحبه الله عزوجل كان من الآمنين (3).

Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Sinani al-Mukattib narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us. He said: `Ubaydallah b. Musa al-Habbal al-Tabari narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn al-Khashab narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Muhsan narrated to us from Yunus b. Thibyan. He said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Surely, the people worship Allah for three reasons. (1) One group worship Him out of desire for His reward – that is the worship of the possessive, and it is of greed. (2) Others who worship out of fear of the Fire – that is the worship of the slaves, and it is of fright. (3) But, I worship Him out of love for Him – that is the worship of the nobles, and it is of safety, as He says, “and they will be safe from the horror of that day” (27:89), and as He says, “Say: If you love Allah, then follow me; and Allah will love you and forgive your sins.” (3:31) Whoever loves Allah, Allah will love him; and whoever Allah loves, he will be of the safe ones.

6 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، عن أحمد بن محمد بن خالد، عن أبيه، عن ابن ابي عمير، عن أبي زياد النهدي، عن عبد الله بن وهب، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال: حسب المؤمن من الله نصرة أن يرى عدوه يعمل بمعاصي الله عزوجل (4).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from his father from Ibn Abi `Umayr from Abi Ziyad al-Nahdi from `Abdullah b. Wahab from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: For a believer, it is enough of a victory from Allah to see his enemy disobeying Allah.

7 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم المؤدب، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، عن سهل بن زياد، عن جعفر بن محمد بن بشار، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله الدهقان، عن درست بن أبي منصور الواسطي، عن عبد الحميد بن أبي العلاء، عن ثابت بن دينار، عن سعد بن طريف الخفاف، عن الاصبغ بن نباتة، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): أنا خليفة رسول الله ووزيره ووارثه، أنا أخو رسول الله ووصيه وحبيبه، أنا صفي رسول الله وصاحبه، أنا ابن عم رسول الله وزوج ابنته وأبو ولده، أنا سيد الوصيين ووصي سيد النبيين، أنا الحجة العظمى والآية الكبرى والمثل الاعلى وباب النبي المصطفى، أنا العروة الوثقى، وكلمة التقوى، وأمين الله تعالى ذكره على أهل الدنيا (5).

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim al-Mu’addab narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Kufi narrated to us from Sahl b. Ziyad from Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Bashar from `Ubaydallah b. `Abdullah al-Dahqan from Darast b. Abi Mansur al-Wasiti from `Abd al-Hamid b. Abi’l `Alaa’ from Thabit b. Dinar from Sa`d b. Turayf al-Khaffaf from al-Asbagh b. Nubata. He said: Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said: I am the vicegerent of the Messenger of Allah, his vizier, and his inheritor. I am the brother of the Messenger of Allah, his deputy, and his beloved. I am the elite one of the Messenger of Allah and his companion. I am the cousin of the Messenger of Allah, the husband of his daughter, and the father of his descendants. I am the Master of the Deputies and the Deputy of the Master of Prophets. I am the decisive argument, the great sign, the highest ideal, and the gate of the Chosen Prophet. I am the Firm Handle, the pious word, the faithful of Allah, and His reminder for the people of this world.

8 - حدثنا أحمد بن هارون (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله، عن أبيه عبد الله بن جعفر بن جامع، عن أحمد بن محمد البرقي، عن هارون بن الجهم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: إذا جاهر الفاسق بفسقه فلا حرمة له ولا غيبة (1).

Ahmad b. Harun (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abdullah narrated to us from his father from `Abdullah b. Ja`far b. Jami` from Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Barqi from Harun b. al-Jahm from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: If a depraved person (fasiq) publicly declares his debauchery, then he has no sanctity and backbiting [him is permissible].

9 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن أحمد بن محمد بن خالد، عن العباس بن معروف، عن محمد بن يحيى الخزاز، عن طلحة بن زيد، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): أتاني جبريل من قبل ربي جل جلاله، فقال: يا محمد، إن الله عزوجل يقرئك السلام ويقول: بشر أخاك عليا بأني لا اعذب من تولاه، ولا أرحم من عاداه (2).

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from al-`Abbas b. Ma`ruf from Muhammad b. Yahya al-Khazzaz from Talha b. Zayd from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad form his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Gabriel came to me from Allah and said: “O Muhammad! Surely, Allah recites the salaam to you, and says, ‘Give glad tidings to your brother, `Ali, that I will not punish one who aligns with him, nor will I grant mercy to one who opposes him.’”

10 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد الاسدي البردعي، قال: حدثتنا رقية بنت إسحاق بن موسى بن جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب، عن أبيها، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام): قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): لا تزول قدما عبد يوم القيامة حتى يسأل عن أربع: عن عمره فيما أفناه، وشبابه فيما أبلاه، وعن ماله من أين كسبه وفيما أنفقه، وعن حبنا أهل البيت (3).

Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Asadi al-Barda`i narrated to us. He said: Ruqayya bt. Ishaq b. Musa b. Ja`far b. Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib narrated to us from her father from her forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: No worshiper’s foot will move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about four: (1) his life – how did he spend it? (2) His youth – how did he use it? (3) His wealth – where did he earn it, and how did he spend it? (4) And about loving us, the Ahl al-Bayt.

11 - حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن القطان، قال: حدثني أحمد (4) بن يحيى بن زكريا القطان، قال: حدثنا بكر بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا تميم بن بهلول، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن صالح بن أبي سلمة النصيبيني، قال: حدثنا أبو عوانة، عن أبي بشر، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن عائشة، قالت: كنت عند رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فأقبل علي بن أبي طالب، فقال: هذا سيد العرب، فقلت: يا رسول الله، ألست سيد العرب؟ قال: أنا سيد ولد آدم، وعلي سيد العرب، فقلت: وما السيد؟ قال: من افترضت طاعته كما افترضت طاعتي (1).

Ahmad b. al-Hasan al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Yahya b. Zakariyya al-Qattan narrated to me. He said: Bakr b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Tamim b. Bahlul narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Salih b. Abi Salama al-Nasiyyini narrated to us. He said: Abu `Awana narrated to us from Abi Bishr from Sa`id b. Jubayr from `A’isha. She said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (s) and `Ali b. Abi Talib came forward. So, he said: This is the Master of the Arabs. So, I said: O Messenger of Allah! Are you not the Master of the Arabs? He said: I am the Master of the Children of Adam, and `Ali is the Master of the Arabs. So, I said: What is a Master? He said: One to whom obedience is made obligatory; just as obedience to me was made obligatory.

12 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن موسى الدقاق، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين القاضي العلوي العباسي، قال: حدثني الحسن بن علي الناصر (قدس الله روحه)، قال: حدثني أحمد بن رشيد (2)، عن عمه أبي معمر سعيد بن خثيم، عن أخيه معمر، قال: كنت جالسا عند الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، فجاء زيد بن علي بن الحسين (عليه السلام) فأخذ بعضادتي الباب، فقال له الصادق (عليه السلام): يا عم، أعيذك بالله أن تكون المصلوب بالكناسة. فقالت له أم زيد: والله ما يحملك على هذا القول غير الحسد لابني. فقال (عليه السلام): يا ليته حسد، يا ليته حسد، ثلاثا. ثم قال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي (عليهما السلام): أنه يخرج من ولده رجل يقال له زيد، يقتل بالكوفة، ويصلب بالكناسة، يخرج من قبره نبشا، تفتح لروحه أبواب السماء، يبتهج به أهل السماوات، تجعل روحه في حوصلة طير أخضر يسرح في الجنة حيث يشاء (3).

`Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa al-Daqqaq narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Qadi al-`Alawi al-`Abbasi narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. `Ali al-Nasir (qr) narrated to me. He said: Ahmad b. Rashid narrated to me from his uncle Abi Mu`ammar Sa`id b. Kathim from his brother Mu`ammar. He said: I was sitting with al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) when Zayd b. `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) came and held onto the peg of the door. So, al-Sadiq (as) said to him: O uncle! I seek refuge in Allah for you being crucified in Kinasa. So, the mother of Zayd said to him: By Allah, nothing caused you to say this except for envy for my son. So, he (as) said: I wish it were envy, I wish it were envy – three times. Then, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather (as) that he would have a descendant named “Zayd”, who will be killed in Kufa, crucified in Kinasa, and resurrected from his grave. The gates of heaven will be opened for his spirit, and the people of heaven will be rejoiced by him. His spirit will be put in the stomach of a green bird, which will wander wherever it wishes in Paradise.

13 - حدثنا الحسن بن عبد الله بن سعيد، قال: حدثنا عبد العزيز بن يحيى، قال: حدثنا الاشعث بن محمد الضبي، قال: حدثني شعيب بن عمر، عن أبيه، عن جابر الجعفي، قال: دخلت على أبي جعفر محمد بن علي (عليهما السلام) وعنده زيد أخوه (عليه السلام)، فدخل عليه معروف بن خربوذ المكي، فقال أبو جعفر (عليه السلام): يا معروف، أنشدني من طرائف ما عندك، فأنشده: لعمرك ما إن أبو مالك * * بوان ولا بضعيف قواه ولا بألد (4) لدى قوله * * يعادي الحكيم إذا ما نهاه ولكنه سيد بارع * * كريم الطبائع حلو نثاه (1) إذا سدته سدت مطواعة * * ومهما وكلت إليه كفاه قال: فوضع محمد بن علي (عليهما السلام) يده على كتفي زيد وقال: هذه صفتك يا أبا الحسين (2).

Al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-`Aziz b. Yahya narrated to us. He said: Al-Ash`ath b. Muhammad al-Dabi narrated to us. He said: Shu`ayb b. `Umar narrated to me from his father from Jabir al-Ju`fi. He said: I visited Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali (as), and his brother Zayd (as) was with him. Ma`ruf b. Kharbudh al-Makki entered, so Abu Ja`far (as) said: O Ma`ruf! Recite one of your poems for me. So, he recited:
