Reward of a fast in the month of Shaban
16 Aḥadīth

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی یَعْقُوبُ بْنُ یَزِیدَ عَنِ الْحُصَیْنِ بْنِ یَزِیدَ الْمُخَارِقِیِّ الْکُوفِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جُنَادَهَ السَّلُولِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی حَمْزَهَ الثُّمَالِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: مَنْ صَامَ شَعْبَانَ کَانَ لَهُ طَهُوراً مِنْ کُلِّ زَلَّهٍ وَ وَصْمَهٍ وَ بَادِرَهٍ فَقَالَ أَبُو حَمْزَهَ فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع مَا الْوَصْمَهُ قَالَ الْیَمِینُ فِی الْمَعْصِیَهِ وَ النَّذْرُ فِی الْمَعْصِیَهِ قُلْتُ فَمَا الْبَادِرَهُ قَالَ الْیَمِینُ عِنْدَ الْغَضَبِ وَ التَّوْبَهُ مِنْهَا وَ النَّدَمُ عَلَیْهَا.


1. My father (r.h) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah who said it was narrated to me by Ya’qub b. Yazid from al-Huseen b. Yazid al-Makharaki al-Kufi from Abi Janadah al-Saluli from Abi Hamzah al-Thumali from Abi Ja’far (a.s) who said: “I asked the Imam as to what he meant by that defect.” Imam (a.s) replied, “It is the oath of Allah’s disobedience.” I asked, “What is the meaning of that anger?” He replied, “Taking an oath out of anger and then repenting it.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ أَبِی السَّمْرَاءِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْخَالِقِ قَالَ: جَرَی ذِکْرُ شَعْبَانَ عِنْدَ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ صَوْمِهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِیهِ مِنَ الْفَضْلِ کَذَا وَ کَذَا وَ فِیهِ کَذَا وَ کَذَا حَتَّی إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَیَدْخُلُ فِی الدَّمِ الْحَرَامِ فَیَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ فَیَنْفَعُهُ ذَلِکَ وَ یُغْفَرُ لَهُ.


2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Abdul-Jabbar from Abi al-Samraa from Ismail b. Abd al-Khaliq who said: “The fast of Shaban would benefit him a lot; even if he has murdered a respected person he would be forgiven.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: صَوْمُ شَعْبَانَ وَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرَیْنِ مُتَتابِعَیْنِ تَوْبَهٌ وَ اللَّهِ مِنَ اللَّهِ


3. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali b. Majluwayh from his uncle Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Muhammad b. Sinan from al-Muffadhal b. Umar from Abi Abdillah (a.s) who said: “One who fasts continuously from Shaban to the month of Ramadan then by Allah, these fasts would be counted among repentance of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ سُلَیْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الزُّرْبِیُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَرْحُومٍ الْأَزْدِیِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع یَقُولُ مَنْ صَامَ أَوَّلَ یَوْمٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّهُ وَ مَنْ صَامَ یَوْمَیْنِ نَظَرَ اللَّهُ إِلَیْهِ فِی کُلِّ یَوْمٍ وَ لَیْلَهٍ فِی دَارِ الدُّنْیَا وَ دَامَ نَظَرُهُ إِلَیْهِ فِی الْجَنَّهِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَلَاثَهَ أَیَّامٍ زَارَ اللَّهَ فِی عَرْشِهِ مِنْ جَنَّتِهِ کُلَّ یَوْمٍ.


4. The narrator says that he heard Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s) say, “One who fasts on first of Shaban then surely, Paradise would be made obligatory for him. If he observes two fasts, the Almighty Allah would look at him with mercy in this world every day and night. He would also shower His mercy on him in Paradise. One who fasts for three days would get to visit Allah daily on the Divine throne in Paradise.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مَهْزِیَارَ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَهَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ أَبِی زِیَادٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص شَعْبَانُ شَهْرِی وَ رَمَضَانُ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ وَ هُوَ رَبِیعُ الْفُقَرَاءِ وَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْأَضْحَی لِشِبَعِ مَسَاکِینِکُمْ مِنَ اللَّحْمِ فَأَطْعِمُوهُمْ.


5. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Shaban is my month and Ramadan is the month of Allah. It is spring for the poor. The Almighty Allah has made Eid-ul-Azha so that poor get to eat meat and hence you should perform Qurbani and offer meat to them.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَیْنُ بْنُ سَعِیدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ سَلَمَهَ صَاحِبِ السَّابِرِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی الصَّبَّاحِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع یَقُولُ صَوْمُ شَعْبَانَ وَ رَمَضَانَ وَ اللَّهِ تَوْبَهٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ.


6. It is narrated from Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s) that he said, “By Allah, the fasts of Shaban and Ramadan are like repenting before Allah.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَیْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبَانٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَیْنُ بْنُ سَعِیدٍ عَنْ أَخِیهِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ زُرْعَهَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: کَانَ أَبِی ع یَفْصِلُ مَا بَیْنَ شَعْبَانَ وَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ بِیَوْمٍ وَ کَانَ عَلِیُّ بْنُ الْحُسَیْنِ ع یَصِلُ مَا بَیْنَهُمَا وَ یَقُولُ صَوْمُ شَهْرَیْنِ مُتَتابِعَیْنِ تَوْبَهٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ.


7. It was narrated to us by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to us by al-Hussain b. al-Hassan b. Aban who said it was narrated to us by al-Hussain b. Sa’eed from his brother al-Hassan from Zur’a b. Muhammad from al-Muffadhal b. Umar from Abi Abdillah (a.s) who said: “My father used to take a day’s gap between the fasts of the months of Shaban and Ramadan. However Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s) used to fast for two months continuously and used to say, ‘Fasting for these two months continuously is like repenting before Allah. These are the months of Allah and they compensate for the sins of the two months of past and present each’.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص یَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ وَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ وَ یَنْهَی النَّاسَ أَنْ یَصِلُوهُمَا وَ کَانَ یَقُولُ هُمَا شَهْرَا اللَّهِ وَ هُمَا کَفَّارَهٌ لِمَا قَبْلَهُمَا وَ مَا بَعْدَهُمَا مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ.


8. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali b. Majluwayh from his uncle Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from al-Hussain b. Sa’eed from Umar b. Khalid from Abi Ja’far (a.s) who said: “The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to fast in the months of Shaban and Ramadan continuously. However he used to stop people from doing so.These are the months of Allah and they compensate for the sins of previous and next months.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: کُنَّ نِسَاءُ النَّبِیِّ ص إِذَا کَانَ عَلَیْهِنَّ صِیَامٌ أَخَّرْنَ ذَلِکَ إِلَی شَعْبَانَ کَرَاهِیَهَ أَنْ یَمْنَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص حَاجَتَهُ وَ إِذَا کَانَ شَعْبَانُ صُمْنَ وَ صَامَ مَعَهُنَّ قَالَ وَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص یَقُولُ شَعْبَانُ شَهْرِی.


9. And from the previous chain from al-Hussain b. Sa’eed from Ibn Abi ’Umayr from Hafs b. al-Bukhtari from Abi Abdillah (a.s) who said: “The wives of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to put off their obligatory fasts, if any till the month of Shaban so that they do not act as barrier for his desires. As soon as Shaban arrived, they used to start observing fast and the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) also used to observe fast. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to say, ‘Shaban is my month’.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ سَمَاعَهَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع هَلْ صَامَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ آبَائِکَ شَعْبَانَ فَقَالَ خَیْرُ آبَائِی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص صَامَهُ.


10. And from the previous chain from al-Hussain b. Sa’eed from Ibn Abi ’Umayr from Uthman b. Isa from Sama’a b. Mihran who said: The narrator asked Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s), “Did any of your ancestors fast during the month of Shaban?” Imam (a.s) replied, “Yes, my greatest ancestor the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) fasted in Shaban.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِی نَجْرَانَ عَنْ یُونُسَ بْنِ یَعْقُوبَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ صَوْمِ شَعْبَانَ- هَلْ کَانَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ آبَائِکَ یَصُومُهُ فَقَالَ خَیْرُ آبَائِی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص وَ أَکْثَرُ صِیَامِهِ فِی شَعْبَانَ.


11. And from the previous chain from al-Hussain b. Sa’eed from Abdulrahman b. Abi Najran from Yunis b. Ya’qub who said: The narrator asked Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s) about the month of Shaban, “Did any of your ancestors observe fast in these days?” Imam (a.s) replied, “My greatest ancestor the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to observe many fasts during Shaban.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ شُعَیْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُرَیْحُ بْنُ یُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَکِیعٌ عَنْ سُفْیَانَ عَنْ زَیْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص عَنْ صَوْمِ رَجَبٍ فَقَالَ أَیْنَ أَنْتُمْ عَنْ شَعْبَانَ.


12. It was narrated to us by Muhammad b. Ibrahim who said it was narrated to us by Hamid b. Shu’aib who said it was narrated to us by Shurayh b. Yunis who said it was narrated to us by Wakee’ from Sufyan from Zayd b. Aslam who said: The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) was asked regarding the fast of Rajab. He replied, “Why don’t you care for the fasts of Shaban?”

حَدَّثَنَا حَمْزَهُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَلَوِیُّ ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِی حَاتِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا یَزِیدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْبَصْرِیُّ نَزِیلُ مِصْرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِیٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتُ بْنُ قَیْسٍ الْمَدَنِیُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِی أَبُو سَعِیدٍ الْمُقْرِی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَهُ بْنُ زَیْدٍ قَالَ: کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص یَصُومُ الْأَیَّامَ حَتَّی یُقَالَ لَا یُفْطِرُ وَ یُفْطِرُ حَتَّی یُقَالَ لَا یَصُومُ قُلْتُ رَأَیْتَهُ یَصُومُ مِنْ شَهْرٍ مَا لَا یَصُومُ مِنْ شَیْ ءٍ مِنَ الشُّهُورِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ أَیُّ الشُّهُورِ قَالَ شَعْبَانُ هُوَ شَهْرٌ یَغْفُلُ النَّاسُ عَنْهُ بَیْنَ رَجَبٍ وَ رَمَضَانَ وَ هُوَ شَهْرٌ تُرْفَعُ فِیهِ الْأَعْمَالُ إِلَی رَبِّ الْعَالَمِینَ فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ یُرْفَعَ عَمَلِی وَ أَنَا صَائِمٌ.


13. It was narrated to us by Hamzah b. Muhammad b. al-Alawi (r.h) who said it was narrated to us by Abu Muhammad Abdulrahman b. Abi Hatim who said it was narrated to us by Yazid b. Sinan al-Basri in Egypt who said it was narrated to us by Abdulrahman b. Mahdi who said it was narrated to us by Thabit b. Qays al-Madani who said I was informed by Abu Sa’eed al-Muqri who said it was narrated to us by Usama b. Zayd who said: Usama bin Zaid says that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to fast so much that people used to say that you are always fasting and when he did not fast, people used to say that he won’t fast now. The narrator asked, “Is there any month in which the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to fast a lot?” He replied, “In the month of Shaban. Shaban is a month falling between Rajab and Ramadan. People are unaware of its excellence. The record of deeds of people is sent to Almighty Allah in this month. I wish I am fasting when my record of deeds is being sent.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْعَطَّارُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِی حَاتِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَهَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا یَزِیدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِی صَدَقَهُ الرَّفِیقِیُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَیُّ الصِّیَامِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ شَعْبَانُ تَعْظِیماً لِرَمَضَانَ.


14. It was narrated to us by Ahmad b. al-Hassan al-’Attar who said it was narrated to us by Abdulrahman b. Abi Hatim who said it was narrated to us by al-Hajjaj b. Hamzah who said it was narrated to us by Yazid who said I was informed by Sadaqah al-Raqiqi who said it was narrated to us by Thabit from Anas who said: “The fasts of Shaban for the welcoming of Ramadan.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ یَزِیدَ الْعَبْدِیُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی غُنْدَرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَیْبٌ عَنْ نَوْبَهَ الصَّیْمَرِیِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَهَ عَنْ أَبِی سَلَمَهَ أَنَّ النَّبِیَّ ص لَمْ یَکُنْ یَصُومُ مِنَ السَّنَهِ شَهْراً تَامّاً إِلَّا شَعْبَانَ یَصِلُ بِهِ رَمَضَانَ.


15. The narrator says that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) did not use to fast for a whole month except in Shaban, which he used to link with Ramadan.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِیُّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ یَحْیَی بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْوَاسِطِیِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِی عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ عَنْ سَعِیدِ بْنِ جُبَیْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص وَ قَدْ تَذَاکَرَ أَصْحَابُهُ عِنْدَهُ فَضَائِلَ شَعْبَانَ قَالَ شَهْرٌ شَرِیفٌ وَ هُوَ شَهْرِی وَ حَمَلَهُ الْعَرْشِ تُعَظِّمُهُ وَ تَعْرِفُ حَقَّهُ وَ هُوَ شَهْرٌ زَادَ اللَّهُ فِیهِ أَرْزَاقَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ لِرَمَضَانَ وَ تُزَیَّنُ فِیهِ الْجِنَانُ وَ إِنَّمَا سُمِّیَ شَعْبَانَ لِأَنَّهُ یَتَشَعَّبُ فِیهِ أَرْزَاقُ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ لِرَمَضَانَ وَ هُوَ شَهْرُ الْعَمَلِ فِیهِ تُضَاعَفُ الْحَسَنَهُ سَبْعِینَ وَ السَّیِّئَهُ مَحْطُوطَهٌ وَ الذَّنْبُ مَغْفُورٌ وَ الْحَسَنَهُ مَقْبُولَهٌ وَ الْجَبَّارُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ یُبَاهِی فِیهِ بِعِبَادِهِ یَنْظُرُ مِنْ عَرْشِهِ إِلَی صُوَّامِهِ وَ قُوَّامِهِ فَیُبَاهِی بِهِمْ حَمَلَهَ عَرْشِهِ فَقَامَ عَلِیُّ بْنُ أَبِی طَالِبٍ ع فَقَالَ بِأَبِی أَنْتَ وَ أُمِّی یَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صِفْ لَنَا شَیْئاً مِنْ فَضْلِهِ لِنَزْدَادَ رَغْبَهً فِی صِیَامِهِ وَ قِیَامِهِ نَتَهَجَّدُ لِلْجَلِیلِ فِیهِ- فَقَالَ ص مَنْ صَامَ أَوَّلَ یَوْمٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ کَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ سَبْعِینَ حَسَنَهً الْحَسَنَهُ تُعَادِلُ عِبَادَهَ سَنَهٍ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ یَوْمَیْنِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ حَطَّ عَنْهُ السَّیِّئَهَ الْمُوبِقَهَ وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَلَاثَهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ رَفَعَ لَهُ سَبْعِینَ دَرَجَهً فِی الْجِنَانِ مِنْ دُرٍّ وَ یَاقُوتٍ وَ مَنْ صَامَ أَرْبَعَهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ وَسَّعَ عَلَیْهِ الرِّزْقَ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ خَمْسَهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ حُبِّبَ إِلَی الْعِبَادِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ سِتَّهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ صَرَفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَبْعِینَ لَوْناً مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ سَبْعَهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ عُصِمَ مِنْ إِبْلِیسَ وَ جُنُودِهِ وَ هَمْزِهِ وَ غَمْزِهِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَمَانِیَهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ لَمْ یَخْرُجْ مِنَ الدُّنْیَا حَتَّی یُسْقَی مِنْ حِیَاضِ الْقُدْسِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ تِسْعَهَ أَیَّامٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ عَطَفَ عَلَیْهِ مُنْکَرٌ وَ نَکِیرٌ عِنْدَ مَا یَسْأَلَانِهِ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ عَشَرَهَ أَیَّامٍ وَسَّعَ اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ قَبْرَهُ سَبْعِینَ ذِرَاعاً فِی سَبْعِینَ ذراع [ذِرَاعاً] وَ مَنْ صَامَ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَی قَبْرِهِ إِحْدَی عَشْرَهَ مَنَارَهً مِنْ نُورٍ وَ مَنْ صَامَ اثْنَیْ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ زَارَهُ فِی قَبْرِهِ کُلَّ یَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ أَلْفِ مَلَکٍ إِلَی النَّفْخِ فِی الصُّورِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَلَاثَهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ اسْتَغْفَرَتْ لَهُ مَلَائِکَهُ سَبْعِ سَمَاوَاتٍ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ أَرْبَعَهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ أُلْهِمَتْ بِهِ الدَّوَابُّ وَ السِّبَاعُ حَتَّی الْحِیتَانُ فِی الْبُحُورِ أَنْ یَسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ وَ مَنْ صَامَ خَمْسَهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ نَادَاهُ رَبُّ الْعِزَّهِ وَ عِزَّتِی لَا أَحْرَقْتُکَ بِالنَّارِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ سِتَّهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ أَطْفَأَ عَنْهُ سَبْعِینَ بَحْراً مِنَ النِّیرَانِ کُلِّهَا وَ مَنْ صَامَ سَبْعَهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ غُلِّقَتْ عَنْهُ أَبْوَابُ النِّیرَانِ کُلُّهَا وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَمَانِیَهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ فُتِحَتْ لَهُ أَبْوَابُ الْجِنَانِ کُلُّهَا وَ مَنْ صَامَ تِسْعَهَ عَشَرَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ أُعْطِیَ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ قَصْرٍ فِی الْجِنَانِ مِنْ دُرٍّ وَ یَاقُوتٍ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ زُوِّجَ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ زَوْجَهٍ مِنَ الْحُورِ الْعِینِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ أَحَداً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْمَلَائِکَهُ وَ مَسَحَتْهُ بِأَجْنِحَتِهَا وَ مَنْ صَامَ اثْنَیْنِ وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ کُسِیَ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ حُلَّهٍ مِنْ سُندُسٍ وَ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَلَاثَهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ أُتِیَ بِدَابَّهٍ مِنْ نُورٍ عِنْدَ خُرُوجِهِ مِنْ قَبْرِهِ فَیَرْکَبُهَا طَیَّاراً إِلَی الْجَنَّهِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ أَرْبَعَهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ شُفِّعَ فِی سَبْعِینَ أَلْفاً مِنْ أَهْلِ التَّوْحِیدِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ خَمْسَهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ أُعْطِیَ بَرَاءَهً مِنَ النِّفَاقِ- وَ مَنْ صَامَ سِتَّهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ کَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ جَوَازاً عَلَی الصِّرَاطِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ سَبْعَهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ کَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بَرَاءَهً مِنَ النَّارِ وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَمَانِیَهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ تَهَلَّلَ وَجْهُهُ وَ مَنْ صَامَ تِسْعَهً وَ عِشْرِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ نَالَ رِضْوَانَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ الْأَکْبَرَ وَ مَنْ صَامَ ثَلَاثِینَ یَوْماً مِنْ شَعْبَانَ نَادَاهُ جَبْرَئِیلُ ع مِنْ قُدَّامِ الْعَرْشِ یَا هَذَا اسْتَأْنِفِ الْعَمَلَ عَمَلًا جَدِیداً قَدْ غُفِرَ لَکَ مَا مَضَی وَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِکَ وَ الْجَلِیلُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ یَقُولُ لَوْ کَانَ ذُنُوبُکَ عَدَدَ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ وَ قَطْرِ الْأَمْطَارِ وَ وَرَقِ الْأَشْجَارِ وَ عَدَدَ الرَّمْلِ وَ الثَّرَی وَ أَیَّامِ الدُّنْیَا لَغَفَرْتُهَا لَکَ- وَ ما ذلِکَ عَلَی اللَّهِ بِعَزِیزٍ بَعْدَ صِیَامِکَ شَهْرَ شَعْبَانَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هَذَا لِشَهْرِ شَعْبَانَ.


16. It was narrated to us by Muhammad b. Ibrahim who said it was narrated to us by al-Hassan b. Muhammad al-Maroozi from his father from Yahya b. Abbas from Ali b. ’Amir al-Wasiti who said I was informed by ’Ata b. al-Sayib from Sa’eed b. Jubayr from Ibn ’Amir who said: “One who fasts for one day in Shaban, Allah writes from him seventy rewards and each reward will be equal to that of worshipping Allah for a year. One who fasts for two days, He would save him from those sins, which destroy a person. One who fasts for three days, his position in Paradise would increased by seventy levels with pearls and rubies. One who fasts for four days in Paradise his earnings would increase greatly. One who fasts for five days would be loved by the people. One who fasts for six days, Allah would keep away seventy types of calamities from him. One who fasts for seven days he would remain safe from the mischief and evil thoughts of Satan and his gangs. One who fasts for eight days won’t go thirsty from this world and would be satisfied by a pure cistern. One who fasts for nine days, Munkir and Nakir would be lenient with him while questioning in the grave. One who fasts for ten days his grave would expand by seventy spans. One who fasts for eleven days his grave would be lit up by eleven minarets of light. One who fasts for twelve days seventy thousand angels would visit his grave every day till the Day of Judgment. One who fasts for thirteen days angels of all seven heavens would repent for him. One who fasts for fourteen days all the terrestrial and aquatic animals will be ordered to seek forgiveness for him. One who fasts for fifteen days, the Almighty Allah calls out, ‘I assure you by My Honor that I won’t burn you in the fire of Hell’. One who fasts for sixteen days, seventy rivers of fire will be extinguished for him. One who fasts for seventeen days all the doors of Hell would be closed for him. One who fasts for eighteen days in Shaban all the doors of Paradise would be opened for him. One who fasts for nineteen days would be given seventy thousand palaces made of pearls and rubies in Paradise. One who fasts for twenty days would be married to seventy thousand Hoorul Ein. One who fasts for twenty-one, days angels would congratulate him and keep moving their wings on his body. One who fasts for twenty-two days would be made to wear seventy thousand dresses made of satin and brocade. One who fasts for twenty-three days would be made to sit on a bright mount and roam throughout Paradise. One who fasts for twenty-four days would intercede for seventy thousand people who believed in the Oneness of Allah. One who fasts for twenty-five days hypocrisy would be kept away from him. One who fasts for twenty-six days Allah would give him permit to pass through the Sirat Bridge. One who fasts for twenty-seven days Allah orders to give him freedom from Hell. One who fasts for twenty-eight days his face would be illuminated and light would emanate from his face. One who fasts for twenty-nine days Almighty Allah would please him. One who fasts for thirty days in Shaban Jibraeel (a.s) would stand in front of Divine throne and call out, ‘O person! Your deeds have a new beginning for your pasts sins have been forgiven’. The Almighty Allah would say, ‘I would forgive you even if the number of your sins is equal to the number of stars in the skies, or drops of rain, or leaves of trees, or grains of sand, or drops of dew or number of days of the world. This reward and forgiveness for fasting in the month of Shaban is not much for Allah.” Ibne Abbas says that this reward is for the month of Shaban only.
