Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from al-Husayn ibn Muhammad, from Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Qummi, from Sa’adan ibn Muslim, from Abu Basir, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him:
Imam al-Sadiq
عليه السلام said in the farewell of the Month of Ramadan: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, indeed You
عز وجل have said in Your revealed Book, upon the tongue of Your sent Prophet
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Your blessings be upon him and his family, and Your word is truth: ‘The Month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an’ (Surah Al-Baqarah
2:185); and now this Month of Ramadan has passed by. So I ask You
عز وجل by Your Noble Face and by Your complete words; if there remains upon me any sin which You
عز وجل have not yet forgiven me for, or that You
عز وجل will punish me for, or take me to account for (I ask You
عز وجل) that the dawn of this night not rise, nor this month come to a close, except that You
عز وجل have forgiven it for me, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, to You
عز وجل belongs all praise with all forms of praise, its first and its last, what You
عز وجل have praised Yourself with, and what the praising creatures have said for You
عز وجل those who strive, enumerate, and devote themselves in Your remembrance and gratitude; those whom You
عز وجل have assisted in fulfilling Your due, right from among the various ranks of Your creation of the angels brought near, and the prophets and the messengers, and the various ranks of those who speak and glorify You
عز وجل from among all the worlds. For the fact that You
عز وجل caused us to reach the Month of Ramadan, And (that) upon us was from Your blessings, And in our possession from Your allotment, And Your beneficence, And the manifestation of Your generosity for that, to You
عز وجل belongs the utmost praise; everlasting, enduring, settled, perpetual praise that never comes to an end, throughout all eternity. Exalted is Your praise. You
عز وجل assisted us in it until You
عز وجل enabled us, to fulfill its fasting and its nightly standing in prayer and devotion. And whatever acts of righteousness, or gratitude, or remembrance that we performed in it, O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, accept it from us with the best of Your acceptance, And through Your overlooking, Your pardon, Your forgiveness, Your clemency, and the reality of Your pleasure until You
عز وجل grant us therein every desired good, and abundant granted gifts, and grant us safety from every feared matter and acquired sin. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You
عز وجل by the greatest of what any of Your creation has ever asked You
عز وجل, by the nobility of Your Names, the abundance of Your praise, and the specificity of Your invocation, to send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And to make this month of ours the greatest Month of Ramadan to pass over us since You
عز وجل placed us in this world, Both in blessings upon the protection of my religion, And the salvation of my soul, And the fulfillment of my needs, And the acceptance of my supplications, And the completion of Your bounty upon me, And the repelling of evil from me, And the clothing of well-being for me. And that You
عز وجل make me, by Your mercy, among those for whom You
عز وجل secured the Night of al-Qadr, and made it for him better than ‘a thousand months’ (Surah Al Qadr) in the greatest reward, the most noble reserves, the longest life, the best gratitude, and the continuity of ease. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I also ask You
عز وجل by Your mercy, and Your bounty, and Your pardon, and Your blessings, and Your majesty, and Your ancient kindness and generosity, that You
عز وجل do not make this our last encounter with the Month of Ramadan, until You
عز وجل allow us to reach it again in the coming year in the best of states, and that You
عز وجل show me its crescent moon together with those who behold it and recognize it, in the fullest of Your well-being, the most gracious of Your blessings, the vastest of Your mercy, and the most abundant of Your allotment. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, O’ my Lord
عز وجل, there is no Lord
عز وجل for me other than You
عز وجل, do not make this farewell of mine a farewell of separation and extinction. And not the last of the covenant of encounter, until You
عز وجل show it to me again in the fullness of blessings and the best of hopes, while I remain in the finest state of loyalty to You
عز وجل, ‘indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication’ (Surah Al Imran
3:38). O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, hear my supplication, my humble entreaty, my submissiveness before You
عز وجل, my brokenness, and my reliance upon You
عز وجل. I am in full submission to You
عز وجل, I seek no success, no well-being, no honor, and no attainment except through You
عز وجل, and from You
عز وجل. So bestow it upon me, Exalted is Your praise, and sanctified are Your names by allowing me to reach the Month of Ramadan again while I am safe from every disliked and feared thing, and from all calamities. All praise is due to Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, who aided us in the fasting of this month and its nightly standing, until He
عز وجل brought us to its final night.”
