Ali ibn Hatim from Muhammad ibn Amr from Muhammad ibn Ammar from al-Husayn ibn Abdillah al-Abdawi and al-Hasan ibn Muhammad, said: Ahmad ibn Abdillah ibn Rabiah al-Hashimi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Isa ibn Muhammad narrated to me from Ali ibn Abdillah from his father from his grandfather from Imam al-Husayn ibn Ali عليه السلام from the Commander of the Faithful عليه السلام, peace be upon him:
Imam Ali
عليه السلام said: “All praise is due to Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, the Lord
عز وجل of the worlds, and may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى send blessings upon the purest of the messengers; (Prophet) Muhammad ibn Abdillah
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, the chosen one, the splitter and the joiner. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, so single out (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, with the praised remembrance and the appointed pool. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, grant (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Your blessings be upon him and his family, the means, the elevation, and the excellence, and place his love among the chosen ones, his rank among the most exalted, and his honor among the nearest. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, give (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Your blessings be upon him and his family, from every honor, the most excellent of that honor, And from every bliss, the most abundant of that bliss, And from every gift, the greatest of that gift, And from every ease, the most delightful of that ease, And from every share, the most plentiful of that share, so that none of Your creation is nearer than him in station, nor higher than him with You
عز وجل in remembrance and position, nor greater in right upon You
عز وجل, nor closer in means than (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Your blessings be upon him and his family, the leader of goodness and its guide, the caller to it, and a blessing upon all servants and lands, and a mercy to the worlds. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, join us with (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, Your blessings be upon him and his family, in the comfort of life, the refreshment of the soul, the stability of blessings, the desire of the selves, the fulfillment of longings, the delights of pleasures, the hope for excellence, the witnessing of tranquility, the nobility of honor, the coolness of the eye, the radiance of bliss, and a joy unlike the joys of this world. We bear witness that He
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم has conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, strived for the sake of the nation, and was harmed for Your sake. And He
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم strove in Your path and worshipped You
عز وجل until certainty (death) came to him. So may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى send blessings upon Him
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and his pure family
عليه السلام. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, Lord
عز وجل of the Sacred Land, and Lord
عز وجل of the Corner and the Station, and Lord
عز وجل of the Sacred Monument, and Lord
عز وجل of the sanctuary and the sacred, convey to the soul of (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah
سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, our peace. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon Your nearest angels, and upon all of Your prophets and messengers, And O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon the noble recording guardians, and upon the people of Your obedience from among the inhabitants of the seven heavens and the seven earths from among all the believers.” (Imam
عليه السلام then continued) “Then, when you have completed the supplication, you prostrate and say: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, to You
عز وجل I have turned, in You
عز وجل I have taken refuge, and upon You
عز وجل I have relied. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, You
عز وجل are my trust, and You
عز وجل are my hope. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, suffice me in that which concerns me and that which does not concern me, and in that which You
عز وجل know better than I do. Mighty is Your protection, exalted is Your praise, and there is no God
عز وجل other than You
عز وجل. Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and hasten their relief.’” (Imam
عليه السلام then continued) “Then raise your head and say: ‘O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I seek refuge in You
عز وجل from everything that has distanced me from You
عز وجل, or by which Your noble face has been turned away from me, or has diminished my portion with You
عز وجل. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, so send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and grant me success in everything that pleases You
عز وجل about me and brings me closer to You
عز وجل. And raise my rank with You
عز وجل, and increase my portion, and improve my final abode, and make me firm with the ‘firm word in the worldly life and in the Hereafter’ (Surah Ibrahim
14:27), And grant me success in every praised station in which You
عز وجل love to be called upon by Your names and asked from Your bounty. My Lord
عز وجل, do not uncover Your covering from me, and do not expose my faults to the worlds. And send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and place my name this night among the fortunate.” Until you complete the supplication. (Imam
عليه السلام then continued) “Then you perform two units of prayer. When you finish, say: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, You
عز وجل are my trust in every distress, And You
عز وجل are my hope in every hardship, And You
عز وجل are my reliance and provision in every matter that befalls me. How many a distress weakens the heart, and solutions become limited, and the close ones fail to help, and the enemy rejoices over it, and matters become difficult for me yet I presented it to You
عز وجل and complained of it to You
عز وجل, turning to You
عز وجل in it, away from all others besides You
عز وجل. And You
عز وجل relieved it, and I complained of it, and You
عز وجل sufficed me in it. So You
عز وجل are the Guardian of every blessing, the Companion in every need, and the ultimate goal of every desire. To You
عز وجل belongs abundant praise, and to You
عز وجل belongs gracious favor.”
