Al-Kāfi

1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْخَثْعَمِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ إِنَّ عَلِيّاً تَزَوَّجَ فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) عَلَى جَرْدِ بُرْدٍ وَدِرْعٍ وَفِرَاشٍ كَانَ مِنْ إِهَابِ كَبْشٍ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from ‘Abd al-Karim ibn ‘Amr al-Khath’amiy from ibn abu Ya’fur who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying that Ali (a.s.), married Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, for a mahr (dower) from the price of a single gown, a shield and a bed which was made of the hide of a ram.’”

2- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ زَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) عَلَى دِرْعٍ حُطَمِيَّةٍ يَسْوَى ثَلاثِينَ دِرْهَماً.

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, arranged the marriage of Fatimah and Ali, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, for a mahr (dower) from one shield made by Hatmiyah (a certain people) valued at thirty dirham.’”

3- أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ زَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلِيّاً فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) عَلَى دِرْعٍ حُطَمِيَّةٍ وَكَانَ فِرَاشُهَا إِهَابَ كَبْشٍ يَجْعَلانِ الصُّوفَ إِذَا اضْطَجَعَا تَحْتَ جُنُوبِهِمَا.

3. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Mu‘awiyah ibn Wahab who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, arranged marriage of Ali and Fatimah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, with a mahr (dower) from a shield made by Hatmiyah and their bed was made of the hide of ram and when sleeping they would turn its fury face under their side.’”

4- بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ زَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلِيّاً فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) عَلَى دِرْعٍ حُطَمِيَّةٍ يُسَاوِي ثَلاثِينَ دِرْهَماً.

4. Certain persons of our people have narrated from Ali ibn al-Husayn from al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Amir ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, arranged the marriage of Fatimah and Ali, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, for a mahr (dower) from one shield made by Hatmiyah (a certain people) valued at thirty dirham.’”

5- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ الأنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ صَدَاقُ فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) جَرْدَ بُرْدٍ حِبَرَةٍ وَدِرْعَ حُطَمِيَّةٍ وَكَانَ فِرَاشُهَا إِهَابَ كَبْشٍ يُلْقِيَانِهِ وَيَفْرُشَانِهِ وَيَنَامَانِ عَلَيْهِ.

5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn walid al-Khazzaz from Yunus ibn Ya’qub from abu Maryam al-Ansariy who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that mahr (dower) of Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, was from a gown which was patched, a shield of Hatmiyah and her bed was of hide of a ram which the wife and husband used as floor covering and bed on which they would sleep.’”

6- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ لَمَّا زَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلِيّاً فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَهِيَ تَبْكِي فَقَالَ لَهَا مَا يُبْكِيكِ فَوَ اللهِ لَوْ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِي خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ مَا زَوَّجْتُكِهِ وَمَا أَنَا زَوَّجْتُهُ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ زَوَّجَكِ وَأَصْدَقَ عَنْكِ الْخُمُسَ مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأرْضُ.

6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Ali ibn Asbat from Dawud from Ya’qub ibn Shu’ayb who has said the following: “He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘When the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, arranged the marriage of Ali and Fatimah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, he went to see her but found her weeping. He (the Messenger of Allah) asked her, ‘What has made you weep, by Allah, had there been anyone better in my family than him I would not have given you in marriage to him, and I have not given you in marriage to him but it is Allah who has given you in marriage to him with a mahr (dower) of al- Khums (one-fifth), for as long as there are the skies and earth.’”

7- عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ فَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) زَوَّجْتَنِي بِالْمَهْرِ الْخَسِيسِ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَا أَنَا زَوَّجْتُكِ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ زَوَّجَكِ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَجَعَلَ مَهْرَكِ خُمُسَ الدُّنْيَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأرْضُ.

7. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ishaq from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Sulayman from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, said to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, ‘You have given me in marriage for a very little mahr (dower).’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘I have not given you in marriage but it is Allah who has given you in marriage from the heaven and has assigned one-fifth of the world as your mahr (dower) for as long as there are the skies and the earth.’”
