Al-Kāfi - Volume 5 > Amount of Mahr today is the Mutually Agreed Amount
Hadith #1

1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ أَبِي الصَّبَّاحِ الْكِنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَهْرِ مَا هُوَ قَالَ مَا تَرَاضَى عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il from Muhammad ibn al- Fudayl from abu al-Sabbah al-Kinaniy who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about mahr (dower) and its amount. He (the Imam) said, ‘Whatever amount people agree upon is mahr (dower).’”



Hadith #2

2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الْمَهْرُ مَا تَرَاضَى عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ أَوِ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً وَنَشٌّ أَوْ خَمْسُمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from Jamil ibn Darraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Mahr (dower) is what people agree upon or twelve Awqiyah and one Nashsha or five hundred dirham.’”



Hadith #3

3- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الصَّدَاقُ مَا تَرَاضَيَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ قَلِيلٍ أَوْ كَثِيرٍ فَهَذَا الصَّدَاقُ.

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Umar ibn ‘Udhaynah from Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The amount of mahr (dower) is what people agree upon which can be little or a great deal, that is mahr (dower).”’



Hadith #4

4- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مَرَّارٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الصَّدَاقُ كُلُّ شَيْ‏ءٍ تَرَاضَى عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ قَلَّ أَوْ كَثُرَ فِي مُتْعَةٍ أَوْ تَزْوِيجٍ غَيْرِ مُتْعَةٍ.

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Isma’il ibn Marrar from Yunus al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from Musa ibn Bakr from Zurarah ibn ‘A‘yan who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The amount of mahr (dower) is that upon which people agree and it can be little or a great deal, in an advantageous marriage or non-advantageous marriage.’”

5- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَهْرِ فَقَالَ مَا تَرَاضَى عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ أَوِ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً وَنَشٌّ أَوْ خَمْسُمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘It is the amount upon which people agree or twelve Awqiyah and one Nashsha or five hundred dirham.’”
