`Ali b. `Isa al-Mujawar narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Muhammad b. Bandar narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Muqri from Muhammad b. Sinan from Malik b. `Atiyya from Thuwayr b. Sa`id from his father Sa`id b. `Alaqa from al-Hasan al-Basri. He said: Amir al-Mu’minin climbed the pulpit of Basra and said: O people! Tell me about my lineage, for whoever recognizes me should tell me about my lineage. If not, then I will speak about my own lineage. I am Zayd b. `Abd Manaf b. `Amer b. `Amr b. al-Mughira b. Zayd b. Kilab. So, Ibn al-Kawa’ stood and said to him: O you! We do not know of a lineage for you other than that you are `Ali b. Abi Talib b. `Abd al-Muttalib b. Hashim b. `Abd Manaf b. Qusay b. Kilab. So, he said to him: O Laka`! Surely, my father named me Zayd after his grandfather Qusay. The name of my father is `Abd Manaf, but the agnomen (kunya) overcame the name [in popularity]. The name of `Abd al-Muttalib is `Amer, but the agnomen overcame the name. The name of Hashim is `Amr, but the agnomen overcame the name. The name of `Abd Manaf is al-Mughira, but the agnomen overcame the name. The name of Qusay is Zayd, but the Arabs called him by a merged name because he gathered them from the furthest land (al-balad al-aqsa) to Mecca, so the agnomen overcame the name.

My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to me. He said: Al-Haytham b. Abi Masruq al-Nahdi narrated to me from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from `Abdullah b. Sinan from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said: Allah revealed to Dawud : A servant from My servants may perform a deed for which I will gift him My Paradise. He said: So, Dawud said: O Lord! What is that deed? He said: Bringing happiness into My believing servant, even if by giving him a date. He said: So, Dawud said: The right of one who recognizes You is that he never loses hope in You.

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us. He said: Sahl b. Ziyad narrated to me from Muhammad b. al-Walid. He said: I heard from Yunus b. Ya`qub who narrated from Sinan b. Turayf from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq . He said: He said: We are the first family that Allah mentioned by our names. Surely, when Allah created the heavens and the Earth, He ordered a caller [to call out], so he called out: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah” three times, “I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” three times, and “I bear witness that `Ali is truly the Commander of the Faithful” three times.

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from al-Husayn b. `Ubaydullah from Muhammad b. `Abdullah from Muhammad b. al-Fudayl from Abi Hamza. He said: I heard Aba Ja`far al-Baqir say: Allah revealed to Muhammad (s): O Muhammad! I created you when you were nothing, and I breathed into you of My Spirit as an honour that I have bestowed over you. I have obliged all My creatures to obey you, so whoever obeys you has obeyed Me, and whoever disobeys you has disobeyed Me. I have also obliged that for `Ali and those of his progeny who I have designated for Myself.

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Barqi from his father from `Abbad b. Ya`qub from al-Husayn b. Zayd from Ja`far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq from his forefathers . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: There is not a morning except that two angels call out, saying: “O seeker of good, come. O seeker of evil, stop. Is there a supplicant so that he may be answered? Is there a repentant so that he may be forgiven? Is there a penitent so that he may be pardoned? Is there an anguished one so that he may be relieved of his anguish? O Allah! Hasten the replacement of the wealth of one who spends [in goodness] and destroy the one who withholds.” This is their supplication until sunset.

My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ibrahim b. Hashim from Isma`il b. Marrar from Yunus b. `Abd al-Rahman from `Ali b. Asbat from `Ali b. Abi Hamza from Abi Basir from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq . He said: Allah revealed to `Isa b. Maryam : O `Isa! I have not honoured a creature with the like of My religion, and I have not blessed it with the like of My grace. Wash what is apparent with the water with you, and heal what is hidden with your good deeds, for you will be returning to Me. Gather [your affairs], for all that comes is nearby. Let Me hear a sorrowful voice from you.

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Malik al-Fazari narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Zayd from Muhammad b. Sinan from al-`Ala’ b. al-Fudayl from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said: He who loves a disbeliever has hated Allah, and he who hates a disbeliever has loved Allah. Then, he said: The confidant of the enemy of Allah is the enemy of Allah.

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: Al-Mundhir b. Muhammad informed us. He said: Ja`far b. Sulayman narrated to us from `Abdullah b. al-Fadl from Sa`d b. Turayf from al-Asbagh b. Nubata. He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said in one of his sermons: O people! Listen to my words and think for my sake, for surely, the separation is near. I am the Imam of humanity, the deputy of the best vicegerent, the husband of the Mistress of the Women of this Nation, and the father of the pure progeny and the Imams of Guidance. I am the brother of the Messenger of Allah, his deputy, his supporter, his vizier, his companion, his elite one, his beloved, and his friend. I am the Commander of the Faithful, the Leader of the shining believers, and the Master of Deputies. My war is Allah’s war, and my peace is Allah’s peace. Obedience to me is obedience to Allah, my wilaya is the wilaya of Allah, my Shi`a are the friends of Allah, and my supporters are the supporters of Allah. By Him who created me when I was nothing, the preservers from the companions of Muhammad (s) know that the oath breakers, deviators, and apostates were cursed upon the tongue of the Ummi Prophet; and those who were cursed will be let down.

`Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Musa b. `Imran al-Nakha`i narrated to us from his uncle al-Husayn b. Yazid from Abi’l Hasan Musa b. Ja`far . He said: One of my forefathers heard a man recite Umm al-Quran (al-Fatiha), so he said: “Thanksgiving and reward.” Then, he heard him recite qul huwallahu ahad, so he said: “Safe and secure.” Then, he heard him recite inna anzalnahu, so he said: “He spoke the truth, and he was forgiven.” Then, he heard him recite Ayat al-Kursi, so he said: “Bravo, bravo! This person has been dissociated from the Fire.”

By this isnad from Abi’l Hasan Musa b. Ja`far . He said: Surely, Allah has one thousand whiffs of His mercy on Friday, and He gives every worshiper as much of it as He wills. So, whoever recites inna anzalnahu fi laylatil qadr one hundred times after `Asr on Friday, Allah gifts him that one thousand and its like.

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from `Ali b. Hassan al-Wasiti from `Abd al-Rahman b. Kathir al-Hashimi. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq say: Gabriel descended upon the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Muhammad! Surely, Allah recites the salaam to you, and He says: “Surely, I have prohibited the Fire (of Hell) upon the loins that bequeathed you, the womb that carried you, and the rock that adopted you.” So, he said: O Gabriel! Could you clarify that for me? So, he said: As for the loins that bequeathed you, that is `Abdullah b. `Abd al-Muttalib. As for the womb that carried you, that is Amina bt. Wahb. As for the rock that adopted you, that is Abu Talib b. `Abd al-Muttalib and Fatima bt. Asad.

Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Masrur narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. `Amer narrated to us from his uncle `Abdullah b. `Amer from Sharif b. Sabiq al-Taflisi from al-Fadl b. Abi Qurra al-Samnadi. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah say: There was a famine among the Children of Israel, to the point where they would exhume the dead and eat them. So, they exhumed a grave, and they found a tablet, upon which it was written: “I am so-and-so the prophet. The one who exhumes my grave is an Abyssinian. We saw what we accomplished, we won what we consumed, and we lost what we left behind.”

Ja`far b. `Ali b. al-Hasan b. `Ali b. `Abdullah b. al-Mughira al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: My grandfather al-Hasan b. `Ali narrated to us from his grandfather `Abdullah b. al-Mughira from Isma`il b. Abi Ziyad from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers . He said: The Prophet (s) said: Whoever has one mustard seed of racism in his heart will be raised by Allah on the Day of Resurrection with the bedouins of Jahiliyya.

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to us He said: My father narrated to me from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah from Abi Ayyub Sulayman b. Muqbil al-Madani from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Sa`d b. Abi Khalaf al-Zam from Abi `Ubayda. He said: Abu `Abdillah al-Sadiq said: He who says “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, one without partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger (la ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareekalah, wa ashhadu anna muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluh)” in the market, Allah records one million good deeds for him.

Ahmad b. Harun al-Fami narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abdullah al-Himyari narrated to us from his father from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid al-Barqi from his father from Muhammad b. Sinan from Abi’l Jarud from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq from his father from his grandfather . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whoever says: “may Allah be glorified (subhanallah)”, Allah will plant a tree for him in Paradise due to that. Whoever says: “Praise be to Allah (alhamdulillah)”, Allah will plant a tree for him in Paradise due to that. Whoever says: “There is no god but Allah (la ilaha illallah)”, Allah will plant a tree for him in Paradise due to that. Whoever says: “Allah is the greatest (Allahu akbar)”, Allah will plant a tree for him in Paradise due to that. So, a man from Quraysh said: O Messenger of Allah! Then we have many trees in Paradise. He said: Yes, but beware of taking fire to them to burn them, for Allah says, “O you who believe! Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and do not invalidate your deeds.” (47:33)
