Ali ibn Hatim from Ali ibn al-Husayn from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdillah from al-Hasan ibn Mahbub from Jamil ibn Salih from Dhurayh ibn Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Muharibi from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him: Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “O Possessor of grace, upon whom none has any grace; O’ Possessor of bounty, there is no God but You عز وجل, the support of those who seek refuge, the security of those who are afraid, the protector of those who seek protection. If, in the Mother of the ‘Book’ (Surah Al-Fatiha) with You عز وجل, I am recorded as wretched or deprived or constrained in my sustenance, then erase from the Mother of the ‘Book’ (Surah Al-Fatiha) my wretchedness, my deprivation, and the constraint of my sustenance, and write me with You عز وجل as happy, successful in goodness, and granted abundance in sustenance from You عز وجل. For surely, You عز وجل have said in Your Book that You عز وجل revealed upon Your sent Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Your blessings be upon him and his family, ‘Allah سبحانه وتعالى erases what He عز وجل wills and confirms, and with Him عز وجل is the Mother of the Book,” (Surah Ar-Raʿd 13:39). And You عز وجل have said, ‘My mercy encompasses all things,’ (Surah Al-Aʿraf 7:156) and I am a ‘thing’, so let Your mercy encompass me, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful. And may Allah سبحانه وتعالى send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم.’” (Imam عليه السلام then continued) “And supplicate with whatever appears to you, and when you finish the supplication, then prostrate and say in your prostration: ‘O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, enrich me with knowledge, adorn me with forbearance, honor me with piety, and beautify me with well-being. O’ Guardian of well-being, Your pardon, Your pardon from the Fire.’ Then, when you raise your head, say: ‘O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل; There is no God but You عز وجل by Your name, In the name of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O’ All-Merciful, O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, O’ Lord, O’ Near One, O’ Responsive One, O’ Originator of the heavens and the earth, O’ Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O’ Most Compassionate, O’ Most Generous Bestower, O’ Ever-Living, O’ Self-Subsisting. I ask You عز وجل by every name that is Yours, which You عز وجل love to be called by, and by every supplication with which anyone among the first and the last has called upon You عز وجل and You عز وجل answered him; O’Allah سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and to turn my heart towards fear of You عز وجل and awe of You عز وجل, and to make me among the sincere ones, and to strengthen all of my limbs for Your worship, and to open my breast to goodness and piety, and to loosen my tongue for the recitation of Your Book. O’ Guardian of the believers, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم.” (Imam عليه السلام then continued) “And supplicate with whatever you desire. Then perform the final Isha prayer. When you have completed Isha prayer, stand and pray two rak’ahs. When you have completed them, say: ‘O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل by Your splendor, and Your majesty, and Your beauty, and Your greatness, and Your light, and the vastness of Your mercy, and Your names, and Your might, and Your power, and Your will, and the execution of Your command, and the utmost of Your pleasure, and Your nobility, and Your generosity, and the permanence of Your glory and sovereignty, and Your pride, and the elevation of Your station, and the ancientness of Your bounty, and the wonder of Your signs, and Your grace, and Your generosity, and the universality of Your provision, and Your gifts, and Your goodness, and Your benevolence, and Your bestowal, and Your favour, and Your status, and Your omnipotence. And I ask You عز وجل by all of Your entitlements, that You عز وجل send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and that You عز وجل save me from the Fire. And that You عز وجل bestow upon me Paradise, and that You عز وجل expand for me the provision of lawful and pure sustenance, And that You عز وجل repel from me the evil of the wicked among the Arabs and the non-Arabs, And that You عز وجل restrain my tongue from lying, and my heart from envy, and my eye from betrayal for indeed You عز وجل know ‘the treachery of the eyes and what the hearts conceal’ (Surah Ghafir 40:19). And that You عز وجل grant me, in this year and every year, the ability to perform Hajj and Umrah, And that You عز وجل lower my gaze, protect my private parts, expand my sustenance, And protect me from every evil, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful.’ Then you are to pray two rak’ahs.”
