Ali ibn Hatim, from Muhammad ibn Abi Abdillah and Ali ibn Sulayman both said: Muhammad ibn Khalid narrated to us, from al-Ala ibn Razin, from Muhammad ibn Muslim, from one of the two (Imams عليه السلام) peace be upon them, who said:
Imam al-Sadiq
عليه السلام said: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, to You
عز وجل belongs all praise with all of Your praises for all of Your blessings, until the praise reaches that which You
عز وجل love and are pleased with. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You
عز وجل for Your goodness and the goodness of what I hope for, And I seek refuge in You
عز وجل from the evil of what I fear and from the evil of what I do not fear. O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And expand my sustenance, and extend my life, and forgive my sin, and make me among those through whom You
عز وجل support Your religion, and do not replace me with someone else.” Then perform two units of prayer, and when you have finished, say: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And apportion for us, of Your fear, that which acts as a barrier between us and Your disobedience; And of Your obedience, that which will deliver us to Your Paradise; And of certainty, that which makes the afflictions of this world easy upon us. And allow us to enjoy our hearing and our sight, and grant us victory over those who show enmity to us. And do not make our affliction in our religion, and do not make this world the greatest of our concerns, and do not give power over us to those who will not show us mercy.” Then perform two units of prayer, and when you have finished, say: “O’ Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, indeed my sins cause me to fear You
عز وجل, and Your generosity gives me hope from You
عز وجل. So, by fear, remove me from sins, and by Your bounty, bring me to gifts, until I may be tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection a freed one by Your generosity, just as I was in the world a nurtured one of Your blessings. For what You
عز وجل will bestow tomorrow of salvation is not greater than what You
عز وجل have granted today of hope. And when has one who hoped at Your door ever been disappointed? Or when has one who asked of You
عز وجل ever been turned away rejected? My God
عز وجل, never has one called upon You
عز وجل, whom You
عز وجل did not answer for You
عز وجل have said: ‘Call upon Me, I will respond to you’ (Surah al-Mu’min
40:60), And You
عز وجل do not break the promise. So send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, O’ my God
عز وجل, and answer my supplication.”
