Ali ibn Hatim, from Muhammad ibn Ja’far, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn al-Walid, from Yunus ibn Yaqub, from Muattib, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him:
Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, bless for me the moment of death. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me in facing death. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me during the agonies of death. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me in the grief of the grave. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me in the constriction of the grave. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me in the darkness of the grave. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me in the loneliness of the grave. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, help me against the terrors of the Day of Resurrection. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, bless for me the length of the Day of Resurrection. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, marry me to the maidens of Paradise (al-Hur al-In).” Then perform two units of prayer, and when you have finished, say: “O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, there is no escape from Your command, nor from Your decree, nor from Your judgment, and there is no power and no strength except through You عز وجل. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, whatever decree You عز وجل have passed upon us and whatever destiny You عز وجل have ordained for us, Then grant us with it a patience that overcomes and subdues it. And make it for us ascending toward Your good pleasure, increasing our good deeds, our merit, our excellence, our dignity, our glory, our blessings, and our honor in this world and the Hereafter. And do not let it diminish from our good deeds. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and whatever You عز وجل have given us of a gift, or whatever excellence You have distinguished us with, or whatever honor You عز وجل have ennobled us with then grant us with it gratitude that overcomes and subdues it. And make it for us ascending toward Your good pleasure, and among our good deeds, our distinction, our honor, Your blessings and Your generosity in this world and the Hereafter. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, do not make it for us a cause of arrogance, or boastfulness, or trial, or wrath, or punishment, or disgrace in this world and the Hereafter. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, we seek refuge in You عز وجل from the slip of the tongue, from an evil end, and from a light scale (on the Day of Judgment). O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And inspire us to remember our good deeds at the time of death. Do not show us our deeds as causes of regret, and do not disgrace us at the moment of Your judgment, And do not expose us due to our sins on the Day we meet You عز وجل. Make our hearts remember You عز وجل and never forget You عز وجل, And fear You عز وجل as though they see You عز وجل, until we meet You عز وجل. Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And replace our evil deeds with good deeds, And make our good deeds into degrees, And make our degrees into chambers, And make our chambers lofty. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, expand the provision of our poor from the vastness of what You عز وجل have decreed upon Yourself. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And bestow upon us guidance as long as You عز وجل keep us alive, And honor as long as You عز وجل give us life, And forgiveness when You عز وجل cause us to die and protection in what remains of our lives, And blessing in what You عز وجل have provided us, And help in what You عز وجل have burdened us with, And firmness in what You عز وجل have obligated upon us. Do not hold us accountable for our injustice, And do not measure us by our ignorance, and do not draw us gradually to ruin through our sins. Make the best of what we say firmly rooted in our hearts, And make us great in Your sight while humble within ourselves. Benefit us through what You عز وجل have taught us, and increase us in beneficial knowledge. I seek refuge in You عز وجل from a heart that does not humble, and from an eye that does not shed tears, And from a prayer that is not accepted. Protect us from the evil of trials, O’ Guardian of this world and the Hereafter.”
