Al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad b. Saʿīd al-Hāshimī narrated to us, saying that Furāt b. Ibrāhīm al-Kūfī narrated to him among others, saying that Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. ʿAlī al-Hamadānī narrated to him among others, saying that al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī—known as Abū ʿAlī al-Shāmī—narrated to him among others, saying that ʿAbd Allāh b. Saʿīd al-Zabarqānī narrated to him among others, saying that ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Ghiyāth narrated to him among others, saying that ʿĀṣim b. Sulaymān narrated to him among others, saying that Juwaybir narrated to him among others, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, from Amīr al-Muʾminīn, ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib عليه السلام, who narrates: “The Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله has said: “Shaʿbān is my month, and the month of Ramaḍān is the month of Allāh. So, for whomsoever fasts in my month, I shall serve as an intercessor for him on the Day of Reckoning. Whoever fasts in the month of Allāh عز وجل, then Allāh shall relieve his loneliness in his grave, grant him companionship therein, and resurrect him from his grave, his face shining with white light, and give him the record of his deeds to take in his right hand, and eternal bliss in his left, until he is presented before his Lord عز وجل, Who shall address him: “O’ My servant!,” so he will reply: “I am at Your call, o’ my Master!,” and Allāh will continue: “You fasted for My sake?,” so the man will respond: “Yes, o’ my Master!” So He عز وجل will say: “Take My servant by the hand until he is brought to Me,” so I shall bring him henceforth. I will say to him: “You fasted in my month?,” so he replies: “Yes,” and I will continue: “Today, I shall be your intercessor.” The Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله then said: “Allāh تبارك وتعالى will say: “Concerning My rights, I have devolved them to My servant. As for the rights of My creation, then whoever excuses him—this servant of Mine—then upon Me is compensating him until he is satisfied.” The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله then continued his narration: “I shall take him by the hand until I stop—with him—at the Bridge, finding it a slippery, treacherous passage whereupon the feet of the malefactors do not get to be firmly planted. I will, nevertheless, take him by the hand (and lead him there) until the Bridge-keeper says to me: “Who is this, o’ Messenger of Allāh?,” so I shall respond: “This is so-and-so, a person of my community. In worldly life, he had fasted in my month, seeking the fulfillment of my intercession, and he had also fasted in the month of his Lord, seeking the fulfillment of His promise.” Thus he shall be granted passage over the Bridge—with the extenuation of Allāh عز وجل—and we will carry on traveling until we stop before the gate to the two Paradisiacal realms. The gate will open for him, and Riḍwān shall say: “Our orders are that it will open, today, for you and for your community.” Amīr al-Muʾminīn عليه السلام concluded: “I implore you to fast in the month of the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله so that he may serve as an intercessor for you, and to fast in the month of Allāh so that you may drink from the sealed nectar.”
