Authored by the prominent 4th-century AH/10th-century CE Shīʿī scholar Shaykh al-Ṣadūq (Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn b. Mūsā b. Bābuwayh al-Qummī), the book Faḍāʾil al-Ashhar al-Thalātha (“Merits of the Three Months”) is a compilation of reports and traditions dedicated to detailing the spiritual significance, rewards, and recommended acts of worship associated with the sacred lunar months of Rajab, Shaʿbān, and Ramaḍān.
The book consists of three sections entitled Kitāb Faḍāʾil Shahr Rajab, Kitāb Faḍāʾil Shaʿbān, and Kitāb Faḍāʾil Shahr Ramaḍān, with the first and third sections containing additional chapters beyond listing the merits of the month that forms the theme of that section. Kitāb Faḍāʾil Shahr Rajab has an additional chapter on Umm Dāwūd and her deed of worship, while Kitāb Faḍāʾil Shahr Ramaḍān has two additional chapters, one on the prayers to be performed on the last night of the month of Ramaḍān, while the other is about deeds of worshipping Allāh that constitute “farewelling” the month of Ramaḍān.
