Al-Amālī

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الفقيه أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا علي بن حماد البغدادي، عن بشر بن غياث المريسي، قال: حدثني أبو يوسف يعقوب بن إبراهيم، عن أبي حنيفة، عن عبد الرحمن السلماني، عن حنش بن المعتمر، عن علي بن أبي طالب) عليه السلام)، قال: دعاني رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فوجهني إلى اليمن لاصلح بينهم، فقلت: يا رسول الله، إنهم قوم كثير، ولهم سن، وأنا شاب حدث، فقال: يا علي، إذا صرت بأعلى عقبة أفيق، فناد بأعلى صوتك: يا شجر، يا مدر، يا ثرى، محمد رسول الله يقرئكم السلام. قال: فذهبت، فلما صرت بأعلى العقبة أشرفت على أهل اليمن، فإذا هم بأسرهم مقبلون نحوي مشرعون رماحهم، مسوون أسنتهم، متنكبون قسيهم، شاهرون سلاحهم، فناديت بأعلى صوتي، يا شجر: يا مدر، يا ثرى، محمد رسول الله يقرئكم السلام. قال: فلم تبق شجرة ولا مدرة ولا ثرى إلا ارتج بصوت واحد: وعلى محمد رسول الله وعليك السلام. فاضطربت قوائم القوم، وارتعدت ركبهم، ووقع السلاح من أيديهم، وأقبلوا إلي مسرعين، فأصلحت بينهم وانصرفت (1).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Hammad al-Baghdadi narrated to us from Bishr b. Ghiyath al-Murisi. He said: Abu Yusuf Ya`qub b. Ibrahim narrated to me from Abi Hanifa from `Abd al-Rahman al-Salmani from Hansh b. al-Mu`tamir from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) called for me and commissioned me to Yemen so that I may restore harmony between them. So, I said: O Messenger of Allah! They are a large, old community, while I am a young man. So, he said: O `Ali! Once you reach the highest site, then call at the top of your voice: “O trees! O stones! O land! Muhammad the Messenger of Allah recites the salaam to you.” He said: So, I went. When I reached the highest site, the people of Yemen came toward me yielding spears, led by their elders and priests, bearing their weapons. So, I called at the top of my voice: O trees! O stones! O land! Muhammad the Messenger of Allah recites the salaam to you. He said: There was not a tree, a stone, nor a piece of land except that it reverberated in one voice: “Peace be unto Muhammad the Messenger of Allah and you.” The feet and the knees of the people buckled, and their weapons fell from their hands. Then, they came quickly toward me; so I reconciled between them and I left.

2 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أحمد بن النصر، قال: حدثني أبو جميلة المفضل بن صالح، عن سعد بن طريف، عن الاصبغ بن نباتة، عن علي (عليه السلام)، قال: إن اليهود أتت امرأة منهم يقال لها: عبدة، فقالوا: يا عبدة، قد علمت أن محمدا قد هد ركن بني إسرائيل، وهدم اليهودية، وقد غالى الملا من بني إسرائيل بهذا السم له، وهم جاعلون لك جعلا (2) على أن تسميه في هذه الشاة، فعمدت عبدة إلى الشاة فشوتها، ثم جمعت ثم الرؤساء في بيتها، وأتت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فقالت: يا محمد، قد علمت ما توجب لي [ من حق الجوار ] (3)، وقد حضرني رؤساء اليهود فزيني بأصحابك. فقام رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) ومعه علي (عليه السلام) وأبو دجانة وأبو أيوب وسهل ابن حنيف وجماعة من المهاجرين، فلما دخلوا وأخرجت الشاة، سدت اليهود آنافها بالصوف، وقاموا على أرجلهم وتوكؤوا على عصيهم، فقال لهم رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): اقعدوا، فقالوا: إنا إذا زارنا نبي لم يقعد منا أحد وكرهنا أن يصل إليه من أنفاسنا ما يتأذى به. وكذبت اليهود عليها لعنة الله، إنما فعلت ذلك مخافة سورة السم (4) ودخانه، فلما وضعت الشاة بين يديه تكلمت كتفها، فقالت: مه يا محمد، لا تأكلني فإني مسمومة. فدعا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) عبدة، فقال لها: ما حملك على ما صنعت! فقالت: قلت: إن كان نبيا لم يضره، وإن كان كاذبا أو ساحرا أرحت قومي منه، فهبط جبرئيل (عليه السلام) فقال: السلام يقرئك السلام، ويقول: قل بسم الله الذي يسميه به كل مؤمن، وبه عز كل مؤمن، وبنوره الذي أضاءت به السماوات والارض، وبقدرته التي خضع لها كل جبار عنيد، وانتكس كل شيطان مريد من شر السم والسحر واللمم (1)، بسم العلي (2) الملك الفرد الذي لا إله إلا هو (وننزل من القرءان ما هو شفاء ورحمة للمؤمنين ولا يزيد الظالمين إلا خسارا) (3). فقال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) ذلك، وأمر أصحابه فتكلموا به، ثم قال: كلوا، ثم أمرهم أن يحتجموا (4).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa`d Abadi narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Barqi from Ahmad b. al-Nasr. He said: Abu Jamila al-Mufaddal b. Salih narrated to me from Sa`d b. Turayf from al-Asbagh b. Nubata from `Ali (as). He said: The Jews came to a woman from among them named `Abda. They said to her: O `Abda! As you know, Muhammad has destroyed the pillar of the Children of Israel and destroyed Judaism. The elites of the Children of Israel have prepared this poison for him, and they have come to you to have you poison him with this sheep. So, `Abda roasted the sheep and gathered the leaders in her house. She came to the Messenger of Allah (s) and said: O Muhammad! I have done what is obligatory for me [as your neighbour]. I have the leaders of the Jews present, so distinguish me with your companions. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) went with `Ali (as), Abu Dujana, Abu Ayyub, Sahl b. Hanif, and a group of Muhajirin. When they entered and the sheep was brought out, the Jews covered their noses with wool, stood on their feet and leaned on their staffs. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said to them: Sit down. So, they said: When a prophet visits us, none of us are to sit down. We would hate to have the harm of our breath reach you. The Jews had lied – may Allah curse them. Rather, they only did that out of fear of the poison and its steam. When the sheep was placed in front of him, its shoulder spoke, saying: Stop, Muhammad. Do not eat me, for I am poisoned. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) called for `Abda and said to her: What caused you do to this! So, she said: I said [to myself]: “If he were a prophet, then it would not harm him. If he were a liar or a sorcerer, then my people will be relieved from him.” So, Gabriel (as) came down and said: The Peace recites the salaam to you and says: “Say: In the name of Allah, by which every believer calls, and by which every believer reaches glory. By His light, which illuminates the heavens and the Earth. By His power, which subjugates every arrogant tyrant and relinquishes every rebellious devil from the evil of poison, sorcery, and deceit. In the name of the High, the King, the Alone, besides whom there is no other god, ‘We have sent down of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers, and it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.’ (17:82)” So, the Prophet (s) said that, and he ordered his companions [to say that as well]; so they said that. Then, he said: Eat. Then, he ordered them to stop.

3 - حدثنا صالح بن عيسى بن أحمد بن محمد العجلي، قال: حدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن علي بن علي، قال: حدثنا أبو نصر الشعراني في مسجد حميد، قال: حدثنا سلمة بن الوضاح (5)، عن أبيه، عن أبي إسرائيل، عن أبي إسحاق الهمداني، عن عاصم بن ضمرة، عن الحارث الاعور، قال: بينا أنا أسير مع أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) في الحيرة، إ��ا نحن بديراني (6) يضرب الناقوس، قال: فقال علي ابن أبي طالب (عليه السلام): يا حارث، أتدري ما يقول هذا الناقوس، قلت: الله ورسوله وابن عم رسوله أعلم. قال: إنه يضرب مثل الدنيا وخرابها، ويقول: لا إله إلا الله حقا حقا صدقا صدقا، إن الدنيا قد غرتنا وشغلتنا، واستهوتنا واستغوتنا، يا بن الدنيا مهلا مهلا، يا بن الدنيا دقا دقا، يا بن الدنيا جمعا جمعا، تفنى الدنيا قرنا قرنا، ما من يوم يمضي عنا إلا أوهى (7) منا ركنا، قد ضيعنا دارا تبقى، واستوطنا دارا تفنى، لسنا ندري ما فرطنا فيها إلا لو قد متنا. قال الحارث: يا أمير المؤمنين، النصارى يعلمون ذلك؟ قال: لو علموا ذلك لما اتخذوا المسيح إلها من دون الله. قال: فذهبت إلى الديراني، فقلت له: بحق المسيح عليك، لما ضربت بالناقوس على الجهة التي تضربها. قال: فأخذ يضرب وأنا أقول حرفا حرفا حتى بلغ إلى موضع: إلا لو قد متنا. فقال: بحق نبيكم. من أخبركم بهذا؟ قلت: هذا الرجل الذي كان معي أمس. فقال: وهل بينه وبين النبي من قرابة؟ قلت: هو ابن عمه. قال: بحق نبيكم أسمع هذا من نبيكم؟ قال: قلت: نعم. فأسلم، ثم قال لي: والله إني وجدت في التوراة أنه يكون في آخر الانبياء نبي، وهو يفسر ما يقول الناقوس (1).

Salih b. `Isa b. Ahmad b Muhammad al-`Ijli narrated to us. He said: Abu Bakr Muhammad b. `Ali b. `Ali narrated to us. He said: Abu Nasr al-Sha`rani narrated to us in Masjid Hamid. He said: Salama b. al-Wadah narrated to us from his father from Abi Isra’il from Abi Ishaq al-Hamadani from `Asim b. Damra from al-Harith al-A`war. He said: I was with Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) in Hira when we came across a monk striking the bell of his monastery. So, `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) said: O Harith! Do you know what this bell is saying? I said: Allah, His Messenger, and the cousin of His Messenger know best. He said: He strikes like this world and its ruin, and it says: “There is no god but Allah, truly, truly, verily, verily. Surely, this world has deceived us and busied us. We have become capricious and astray. O son of this world – easy, easy! O son of this world – reduce, reduce! O son of this world – gather, gather! This world will be annihilated, century after century. Not a day passes except that it weakens our pillars. We have lost the abode that remains, and we have taken residence in the abode that perishes. We will not know what we have left until we die.” Al-Harith said: O Amir al-Mu’minin! Do the Christians know this? He said: Had they known this, they would not have taken the Messiah as a god besides Allah. He said: So, I went to the monk and I said to him: By the right that the Messiah has upon you – strike the bell from the side that you have struck it. He said: So, he began striking it, and I said [the earlier saying] letter by letter until I reached “until we die.” So, he said: By the right of your Prophet – who informed you of this? I said: The man who was with me yesterday. So, he said: Does he have a relation to the Prophet? I said: He is his cousin. He said: By the right of your Prophet – did he hear this from your Prophet? He said: I said: Yes. So, he converted to Islam, then said to me: By Allah! I saw in the Torah that there will be a final prophet who will interpret what the bell says.

4 - حدثنا صالح بن عيسى العجلي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن علي بن علي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن مندة الاصبهاني، قال: حدثنا محمد بن حميد، قال: حدثنا جرير، عن الاعمش، عن أبي سفيان، عن أنس، قال: كنت عند رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) ورجلان من أصحابه في ليلة ظلماء مكفهرة (2)، إذ قال لنا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إئتوا باب علي، فأتينا باب علي (عليه السلام) فنقر أحدنا الباب نقرا خفيا، إذ خرج علينا علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) متزرا بإزار من صوف، مرتديا بمثله، في كفه سيف رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فقال لنا: أحدث حدث؟ قلنا: خير، أمرنا رسول الله أن نأتي بابك وهو بالاثر، إذ أقبل رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فقال: يا علي. قال: لبيك. قال: أخبر أصحابي بما أصابك البارحة، قال علي (عليه السلام): يا رسول الله، إني لاستحيي. فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الله لا يستحيي من الحق. قال علي (عليه السلام): يا رسول الله، أصابتني جنابة البارحة من فاطمة بنت رسول الله، فطلبت في البيت ماء فلم أجد الماء، فبعث الحسن كذا والحسين كذا، فأبطئا علي، فاستلقيت على قفاي، فإذا أنا بهاتف من سواد البيت: قم يا علي، وخذ السطل واغتسل، فإذا أنا بسطل من ماء مملوء، عليه منديل من سندس، فأخذت السطل واغتسلت، ومسحت بدني بالمنديل، ورددت المنديل على رأس السطل، فقام السطل في الهواء، فسقط من السطل جرعة فأصابت هامتي، فوجدت بردها على فؤادي. فقال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): بخ بخ يا بن أبي طالب، أصبحت وخادمك جبرئيل، أما الماء فمن نهر الكوثر، وأما السطل والمنديل فمن الجنة، كذا أخبرني جبرئيل، كذا أخبرني جبرئيل، كذا أخبرني جبرئيل (1).

Salih b. `Isa al-`Ijli narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Ali b. `Ali narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Manda al-Isfahani narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Humayd narrated to us. He said: Jarir narrated to us from al-A`mash from Abi Sufyan from Anas. He said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (s) and two men from among his companions on a dark night when the Messenger of Allah (s) said to us: Go to the door of `Ali. So, we went to the door of `Ali (as), and one of us knocked on it gently. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) came out to us dressed in two woolen garments, and the sword of the Messenger of Allah (s) was in his hand. So, he said to us: Did something happen? We said: Good. The Messenger of Allah ordered us to come to your door, and he is coming. The Messenger of Allah (s) came froward and said: O `Ali. He said: I am at your service. He said: Tell my companions about what happened to you yesterday. `Ali (as) said: O Messenger of Allah! I am embarrassed. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: Allah does not cause embarrassment from the truth. `Ali (as) said: O Messenger of Allah! I was afflicted with janaba yesterday from Fatima the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, so I sought water in the house, but I did not find water. So, I sent al-Hasan here and al-Husayn there. They took a long time, so I lay on my back. Then, a voice from the darkness of the house said: Stand, `Ali, and take the pail and bathe. So, I found a bucket full of water with a veil of silk atop it. So, I took the bucket and bathed, and I wiped my hands on the veil. I returned the veil to the top of the bucket, and then it was taken by the wind. A drop fell from the bucket and landed on my head; and I felt its coolness on my heart. So, the Prophet (s) said: Bravo, bravo, Ibn Abi Talib. Gabriel has become your servant. As for the water, it is from the river of al-Kawthar. As for the bucket and the veil, they are from Paradise. This is what Gabriel informed me of, this is what Gabriel informed me of, this is what Gabriel informed me of.

5 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن علي بن أسد الاسدي، قال: حدثنا يعقوب بن يوسف بن حازم، قال: حدثنا عمر بن إسماعيل بن مجالد، قال: حدثنا حفص بن غياث، عن برد بن سنان، عن مكحول، عن واثلة بن الاسقع، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): لا تظهر الشماتة بأخيك، فيرحمه الله ويبتليك (2).

Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Ali b. Asad al-Asadi narrated to us. He said: Ya`qub b. Yusuf b. Hazim narrated to us. He said: `Umar b. Isma`il b. Mujalid narrated to us. He said: Hafs b. Ghiyath narrated to us from Bard b. Sinan from Makhul from Wathila b. al-Ashqa`. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Do not gloat over the misfortune of your brother, or else Allah will have mercy on him and cause you tribulation.

6 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد الاسدي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد بن المرزبان، قال: حدثنا علي بن الجعد، قال: حدثنا شعبة، عن أبي عمران الجوني (3)، عن عبد الله بن الصامت، قال: قال أبو ذر (رحمه الله): قلت: يا رسول الله، الرجل يعمل لنفسه ويحبه الناس؟ قال: تلك عاجل بشرى المؤمنين (4).

Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Asadi narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Muhammad al-Marzaban narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Ja`d narrated to us. He said: Shu`ba narrated to us from Abi `Imran al-Juni from `Abdullah b. al-Samit. He said: Abu Dharr (rh) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah! [What do you say regarding] a man who works for himself and gains the love of the people? He said: That is of the immediate glad tidings of the believer.

7 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد الاسدي، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن الحسن العامري، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن عيسى بن عبيد السدوسي، قال: حدثنا سليمان بن عمرو، عن عبد الله بن حسن بن حسن بن علي، عن أمه فاطمة بنت الحسين، عن أبيها (عليه السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن صلاح أول هذه الامة بالزهد واليقين، وهلاك آخرها بالشح والامل (5).

Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Asadi narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-`Amiri narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. `Isa b. `Ubayd al-Sadusi narrated to us. He said: Sulayman b. `Amr narrated to us from `Abdullah b. Hasan b. Hasan b. `Ali from his mother Fatima bt. al-Husayn from her father (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The first things to rectify this Nation are asceticism and certainty, and the last things to destroy it are stinginess and wishful thinking.

8 - حدثنا محمد بن علي بن الفضل الكوفي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر المعروف بابن التبان، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن خالد المقرئ الكسائي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن داهر الرازي، عن أبيه، عن سعد بن طريف، عن الاصبغ بن نباتة، قال: بينا نحن ذات يوم حول أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) في مسجد الكوفة، إذ قال: يا أهل الكوفة، لقد حباكم الله عز وجل بما لم يحب به أحدا، ففضل مصلاكم، وهو بيت آدم، وبيت نوح، وبيت إدريس، ومصلى إبراهيم الخليل، ومصلى أخي الخضر (عليه السلام)، ومصلاي، وإن مسجدكم هذا أحد الاربعة مساجد التي اختارها الله عز وجل لاهلها، وكأني به يوم القيامة في ثوبين أبيضين شبيه بالمحرم، يشفع لاهله ولمن صلى فيه، فلا ترد شفاعته، ولا تذهب الايام حتى ينصب الحجر الاسود فيه، وليأتين عليه زمان يكون مصلى المهدي من ولدي، ومصلى كل مؤمن، ولا يبقى على الارض مؤمن إلا كان به أو حن قلبه إليه، فلا تهجروه، وتقربوا إلى الله عز وجل بالصلاة فيه، وارغبوا إليه في قضاء حوائجكم، فلو يعلم الناس ما فيه من البركة لاتوه من أقطار الارض ولو حبوا على الثلج (1).

Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Fadl al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ja`far al-Ma`ruf b. al-Tibyan narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Khalid al-Muqri’ al-Kisa’i narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Dahir al-Razi narrated to us from his father from Sa`d b. Turayf from al-Asbagh b. Nubata. He said: One day, we were gathered around Amir al-Mu’minin in the Mosque of Kufa when he said: O people of Kufa! Allah has loved you in a way that He has not loved anyone else, so He uplifted your place of prayer, which is the house of Adam, the house of Nuh, the house of Idris, the place of prayer for Ibrahim the Friend and my brother al-Khidr (as), and my place of prayer. This mosque of yours is one of the four mosques that Allah has chosen for its people. It is as if I am in it on the Day of Resurrection, wearing two white garments, giving intercession to its people and to whomever prayed in it. Its intercession is not rejected. The days will not pass until the Black Stone will be brought to it. There will come a time where it will be the place of prayer of the Mahdi from my progeny, and the place of prayer of every believer, and there will not be a believer on Earth except that he has been in it or craved it in his heart. So, do not forsake it, and come closer to Allah by praying in it. Desire to come to it to fulfill your needs. If the people were to know its blessing, they would come to it from every region of the Earth, even if they had to crawl on ice.

9 - حدثنا محمد بن عمر بن محمد بن سلمة بن البراء الحافظ البغدادي، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن عبيد الله (2) الثقفي أبو العباس، قال: حدثنا عيسى بن محمد الكاتب، قال: حدثني المدائني، عن غياث بن إبراهيم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن جده (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام): عقول النساء في جمالهن، وجمال الرجال في عقولهم (3).

Muhammad b. `Umar b. Muhammad b. Salama b. al-Bara’ al-Hafith al-Baghdadi narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. `Ubaydullah al-Thaqafi Abu’l `Abbas narrated to us. He said: `Isa b. Muhammad al-Katib narrated to us. He said: al-Mada’ini narrated to me from Ghiyath b. Ibrahim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his grandfather (as). He said: `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) said: The mind of women is in their beauty, and the beauty of men is in their mind.

10 - حدثنا الحسن بن عبد الله بن سعيد العسكري، قال حدثنا محمد بن أحمد القشيري، قال: حدثنا أبو الحريش أحمد بن عيسى الكوفي، قال: حدثنا موسى ابن إسماعيل بن موسى بن جعفر، قال: حدثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن جده جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن أبيه، عن علي (عليهم السلام)، في قول الله عز وجل: (ولا تنس نصيبك من الدنيا) (1)، قال: لا تنس صحتك وقوتك و فراغك وشبابك ونشاطك أن تطلب بها الآخرة (2).

Al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id al-`Askari narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Qushayri narrated to us. He said: Abu’l Harish Ahmad b. `Isa al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Musa b. Isma`il b. Musa b. Ja`far narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to me from his father from his grandfather Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his grandfather from his father from `Ali (as). Regarding the saying of Allah, “Do not forget your share of the world” (28:77), he said: Do not forget to seek the Hereafter during your good health, your strength, your free time, your youth, and your vitality.

11 - حدثنا الحسن بن عبد الله بن سعيد، قال: حدثنا محمد بن منصور ابن أبي الجهم وأبو يزيد القرشي، قالا: حدثنا نصر بن علي الجهضمي، قال: حدثنا علي بن جعفر بن محمد، قال: حدثني أخي موسى بن جعفر، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهما السلام)، قال: أخذ رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) بيد الحسن و الحسين (عليهما السلام) فقال: من أحب هذين وأباهما وأمهما، كان معي في درجتي يوم القيامة (3).

Al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Mansur b. Abi’l Jahm and Abu Yazid al-Qurashi narrated to us. They said: Nasr b. `Ali al-Jahdami narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ja`far b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: My brother Musa b. Ja`far narrated to me from his father from his grandfather from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). The Messenger of Allah (s) took the hands of al-Hasan and al-Husayn (as) and said: Whoever loves these two, their father, and their mother will be with me in my rank on the Day of Resurrection.

- حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق الطالقاني و الحسن بن عبد الله ابن سعيد العسكري، جميعا، قالا: حدثنا عبد الغزيز بن يحيى الجلودي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن زكريا الجوهري، حدثني علي بن حكيم، عن الربيع بن عبد الله، عن عبد الله ابن الحسن، عن زيد بن علي، عن أبيه (عليه السلام)، قال: يقول الله عز وجل: إذا عصاني من خلقي من يعرفني، سلطت عليه من لا يعرفني (4).

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq al-Talaqani and al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id al-`Askari narrated to us together. They said: `Abd al-`Aziz b. Yahya al-Juludi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Zakariyya al-Jawhari narrated to us. `Ali b. al-Hakim narrated to me from al-Rabi` b. `Abdullah from `Abdullah b. al-Hasan from Zayd b. `Ali from his father (as). He said: Allah says: If a creature of mine who recognizes Me disobeys Me, I will make one who does not recognize Me rule over him.

13 - حدثنا أحمد بن يحيى المكتب، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد الوراق، قال: حدثني بشر بن سعيد بن قلبويه (5) المعدل بالرافقة، قال: حدثنا عبد الجبار بن كثير التميمي اليماني، قال: سمعت محمد بن حرب الهلالي أمير المدينة يقول: سمعت الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام) يقول: العافية نعمة خفية، إذا وجدت نسيت، وإذا فقدت ذكرت (1).

Ahmad b. Yahya al-Mukattib narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Warraq narrated to us. He said: Bishr b. Sa`id b. Qalbuwayh narrated to me. He said: `Abd al-Jabbar b. Kathir al-Tamimi al-Yamani narrated to us. He said: I heard Muhammad b. Harb al-Hilali the emir of Medina say: I heard al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) say: Wellness is a hidden blessing – when you have it, you forget about it; and when you lose it, you remember it.

14 - قال: وسمعت الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: العافية نعمة يعجز الشكر عنها (2).

He said: I heard al-Sadiq (as) say: Wellness is a blessing that one cannot duly be thankful for.

15 - حدثنا أحمد بن يحيى المكتب، قال: حدثنا أبو الطيب أحمد بن محمد الوراق، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن دريد الازدي العماني، قال: حدثنا العباس بن الفرج الرياشي، قال: حدثني أبو زيد النحوي الانصاري، قال: سألت الخليل بن أحمد العروضي، فقلت: لم هجر الناس عليا (عليه السلام)، وقرباه من رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) قرباه، وموضعه من المسلمين موضعه، وعناؤه في الاسلام عناؤه؟ فقال: بهر والله نوره أنوارهم، وغلبهم على صفو كل منهل، والناس إلى أشكالهم أميل، أما سمعت الاول حيث يقول: وكل شكل لشكله آلف * * أما ترى الفيل يألف الفيلا قال: وأنشدنا الرياشي - في معناه - عن العباس بن الاحنف: وقائل كيف تهاجرتما * * فقلت قولا فيه انصاف لم يك من شكلي فهاجرته * * والناس أشكال وآلاف (3)

Ahmad b. Yahya al-Mukattib narrated to us. He said: Abu’l Tayyib Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Warraq narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Durayd al-Azdi al-`Umani narrated to us. He said: al-`Abbas b. al-Faraj al-Riyashi narrated to us. He said: Abu Zayd al-Nahwi al-Ansari narrated to me. He said: I asked al-Khalil b. Ahmad al-`Arwadi, saying: How could the people abandon `Ali (as) when his relation to the Messenger of Allah (s) was such, his place with the Muslims was such, and his striving for Islam was such? So, he said: By Allah, his light dazzled their light, and he overcame them on every plain; and the people incline toward those who resemble them [and `Ali did not resemble them]. Have you not heard the first when he said: “Every sort inclines toward its own sort. Do you not see how an elephant inclines toward elephants?” He said: Al-Riyashi recited to us – [something] of its [same] meaning – from al-`Abbas b. al-Ahnaf. “A questioner says, ‘how did you leave us?’ So, I gave a reply that was fair. ‘He was not of my sort, so I left him. People are of sorts and inclinations.’”
