64. The Reward for the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.) Is Equal to the Reward of Performing a Hajj

1 حَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (ع) قَالَ زِيَارَةُ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) وَ زِيَارَةُ قَبْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ (ص) وَ زِيَارَةُ قُبُورِ الشُّهَدَاءِ تَعْدِلُ حِجَّةً مَبْرُورَةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص


1. Ĥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā narrated to me from his father, from Ĥasan ibn Maĥbūb, from Jamǐl ibn Durrāj, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.), or the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), or the graves of the Martyrs (of Uĥud) is equal to performing a purified Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.).




2 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (ع) يَقُولُ مَنْ أَتَى قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ حِجَّةً مَبْرُورَةً


2. Muĥammad ibn ja’far narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, who said: I heard Abal Ĥasan (Imam Riďā (a.s.)) say: Allāh will register the performance of a purified Hajj for those who go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.).




3 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْبَارِيُّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ كُلَّ سَنَةٍ يَتَهَيَّأُ لِي مَا أَخْرُجُ بِهِ إِلَى الْحَجِّ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ الْحَجَّ وَ لَمْ يَتَهَيَّأْ لَكَ فَائْتِ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فَإِنَّهَا تُكْتَبُ لَكَ حِجَّةٌ وَ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَ لَمْ يَتَهَيَّأْ لَكَ فَأْتِ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فَإِنَّهَا تُكْتَبُ لَكَ عُمْرَةٌ


3. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ĥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Mughǐrah, from ‘Abbās ibn ‘Āmir, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Ubayd Al-Anbāri, who said: I said to Abǐ ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)), “May I sacrifice myself for you! I do not have the means to go to Hajj every year.” Imam (a.s.) replied: If you ever wanted to go to Hajj but did not have the means (to do so), go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.), for verily it will be registered as a Hajj for you. And if you ever wanted to go for ‘Umrah but did not have the means (to do so), go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.), for verily it will be registered as an ‘Umrah for you.




4 وَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) مَا يُقَالُ إِنَّ زِيَارَةَ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) تَعْدِلُ حِجَّةً وَ عُمْرَةً قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا الْحَجُّ وَ الْعُمْرَةُ هَاهُنَا وَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَرَادَ الْحَجَّ وَ لَمْ يَتَهَيَّأْ لَهُ فَأَتَاهُ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ حِجَّةً وَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَرَادَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَ لَمْ يَتَهَيَّأْ لَهُ كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عُمْرَةٌ


4. Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan Al-Šaffār, from Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā, from his father, from Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Hishām ibn Ĥakam, from ‘Abdil Karǐm ibn Ĥassān, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)), “What does it mean when it is said that going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) is equal to performing a Hajj and an ‘Umrah?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Verily Hajj and ‘Umrah can only be performed here (in Makkah). However, if one decides to go to Hajj but does not have the means (to do so) and goes to Ĥusain (a.s.) instead, Allāh will register a Hajj for him. (Similarly) if someone decides to perform an ‘Umrah but does not have the means (to do so and goes to Ĥusain (a.s.) instead), an ‘Umrah will be registered for him.




5 وَ عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ قَالَ (ع) إِنَّ زِيَارَةَ قَبْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ (ص) وَ زِيَارَةَ قُبُورِ الشُّهَدَاءِ- وَ زِيَارَةَ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) تَعْدِلُ حِجَّةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ (ص) حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) مِثْلَهُ


5. Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan Al-Šaffār, from Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ĥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Faďďāl, from Ĥarǐz, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Imam (a.s.) said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), or the graves of the Martyrs (of Uĥud), or the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) is equal to performing a Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.). The above Ĥadǐth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Muĥammad Ja’far, from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Šafwān ibn Yaĥyā, from Ĥarǐz, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, from Abǐ ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).




6 حَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (ع) قَالَ زِيَارَةُ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) تَعْدِلُ حِجَّةً مَبْرُورَةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص


6. Ĥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā narrated to me from his father, from Ĥasan ibn Maĥbūb, from Jamǐl ibn Šāliĥ, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) is equal to performing a purified Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.).




7 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ وَ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْهُمَا قَالا زِيَارَةُ قَبْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ (ص) وَ زِيَارَةُ قُبُورِ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ زِيَارَةُ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) تَعْدِلُ حِجَّةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص


7. Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from Ĥasan ibn Sa’ǐd, from Šafwān ibn Yaĥyā, from Ĥarǐz, and from Ĥasan ibn Maĥbūb, from Jamǐl ibn Šāliĥ, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) and Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), or the graves of the Martyrs (of Uĥud), or the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) is equal to performing a Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.).




8 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْقَمَّاطِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَرَادَ الْحَجَّ وَ لَمْ يَتَهَيَّأْ لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَى قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فَعَرَّفَ عِنْدَهُ يُجْزِيهِ ذَلِكَ عَنِ الْحَجِّ


8. Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan Al-Šaffār, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā ibn ‘Ubayd, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd Al-Qammāť, from Ibn Abǐ Ya’fūr, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) say: If one decides to go to Hajj but does not have the means to do so and goes to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) instead, and spends the Day of ‘Arafah next to his grave, his Ziyārah will suffice as having performed Hajj.




9 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ كَتَبْتُ إِلَى الْعَبْدِ الصَّالِحِ (ع) إِنْ رَأَى سَيِّدُنَا أَنْ يُخْبِرَنِي بِأَفْضَلِ مَا جَاءَ بِهِ فِي زِيَارَةِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) وَ هَلْ تَعْدِلُ ثَوَابَ الْحَجِّ لِمَنْ فَاتَهُ فَكَتَبَ (ع) تَعْدِلُ الْحَجَّ لِمَنْ فَاتَهُ الْحَجُّ


9. Muĥammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, from Ibrāhǐm ibn ‘Uqbah, who said: I wrote a letter to the Righteous Slave (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) saying, “If our Master deems it appropriate to inform me, (I would like to know) about the best rewards for (going to) the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.) and also if this reward is equal to the reward of performing Hajj for those who have missed (the opportunity to go to) Hajj.” Imam (a.s.) wrote back, “It is equal to Hajj for those who have missed (the opportunity to go to) Hajj.”
