1. Ja’far ibn Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ‘Ubaydillāh ibn Mūsā ibn Ja’far narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Nahīk, from Muḥammad ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Ḥusain Al-Aḥmasi, from Um Sa’īd Al-Aḥmasiyyah, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) about (the reward for) going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s). Imam (a.s) replied, “It is equal to one Hajj and one ‘Umrah and this much reward.” Um Sa’īd added that the Imam (a.s) stretched open his arms and closed them (three times).

2. Ja’far ibn Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ‘Ubaydillāh ibn Mūsā ibn Ja’far narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Nahīk, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Hishām ibn Ḥakam, from ‘Abdil Karīm ibn Ḥassān, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)), “What does it mean when it is said that going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Abī ‘Abdillāh Al-Ḥusain (a.s) is equal to performing Hajj and ‘Umrah?” Imam (a.s) replied: Verily Hajj and ‘Umrah can only be performed here (in Makkah). However, if one decides to go to Hajj but does not have the means (to do so) and goes to Ḥusain (a.s) instead, Allāh will register a Hajj for him. (Similarly) if one decides to perform an ‘Umrah but does not have the means (to do so) and goes to Ḥusain (a.s) instead, Allāh will register an ‘Umrah for him.

It is narrated from your father (a.s) that (going to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s)) is equal to performing Hajj and ‘Umrah?!” Imam (a.s) replied, “Yes. A Hajj and an ‘Umrah, a Hajj and an Umrah…” Hārūn added that the Imam (a.s) counted ten Hajj and ten ‘Umrah.

And after one has performed obligatory Hajj, it is equal to one Hajj and one ‘Umrah.

6. My father narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā, from Abī Sa’īd Ḥamdān ibn Sulaymān Al-Naysābūri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Muḥammad Al-Yamāni, from Manī’ ibn Ḥajjāj, from Yūnus, who said: Imam Riďā (a.s) said: Those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s) have performed a Hajj and an ‘Umrah. I asked, “Does it replace performing Ḥajjatul Islām?” Imam (a.s) replied: No, it is (registered as) Hajj for those who do not have the means of going to Hajj until the means become available to them to perform the Hajj of the sacred House of Allāh. Do you not know that everyday seventy thousand angels circulate the House (Ka’bah) until nightfall, after which they ascend back to the heavens and are then replaced by other angels who circulate the House until morning?! Verily Ḥusain (a.s) is more honourable to Allāh than the House. Verily seventy thousand (different) angels who are disheveled and covered with dust descend to him (his grave) at the time of each prayer, and they will not have another opportunity (to return to his grave) until the Day of Judgment.

Muḥammad ibn Ja’far Al-Qurashi Al-Kūfi Al-Razzāz narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Muḥammad ibn Ismā’īl ibn Bazī’, from Sāliḥ ibn ‘Uqbah, from Yazīd ibn ‘Abdil Malik, who said: I was with Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) when a group of people who were riding on donkeys passed by. Imam (a.s) asked, “Where are they going?” I replied, “To the graves of the martyrs (of Uḥud).” Imam (a.s) asked, “What prevents them from going to the Ziyārah of the lonely (abandoned) Martyr?” One of the people who was from Iraq asked, “Is going to his Ziyārah obligatory?” Imam (a.s) replied, “His Ziyārah is better than performing Hajj and ‘Umrah, and another Hajj and ‘Umrah, and another Hajj and ‘Umrah, and…” Yazīd ibn ‘Abdil Malik added: Imam (a.s) mentioned twenty purified and accepted Hajj and ‘Umrah. And I swear to Allāh that I did not leave the Imam (a.s) until a man came to him and said, “I have gone to Hajj nineteen times. Please pray for me so that Allāh sustains me with the twentieth time.” Imam (a.s) asked, “Have you ever gone to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s)?” The man replied, “No.” Imam (a.s) said, “Verily going to his Ziyārah is better than twenty Hajj.”
