1. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Abī Khalaf, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ḥusain ibn Sa’īd, from Naďr ibn Suwayd, from Yaḥyā Al-Ḥalabi, from Hārūn ibn Khārijah, from Abī Basīr, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) said: (One day) Jabra`īl came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ while Ḥusain (a.s) was playing in front of him. Jabra`īl informed him that his nation would kill Ḥusain (a.s), so the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ became restless. Jabra`īl said, “Should I not show you the land on which he will be killed?” Then the land (between Karbalā and Madīnah) sunk within the ground and the place where the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was sitting (in Madīnah) and the land on which Ḥusain (a.s) was killed became attached to one another. Then Jabra`īl took some of the dust (of Karbalā). Thereafter, the earth returned to the way it (originally) was in less than a blink of an eye. The Prophet ﷺ left while saying, “Bliss for you, O dust! And bliss for those who will be killed on you!” Imam (a.s) continued: The companion of Sulaymān (a.s) (Āsaf ibn Barkhiyā) also did the same thing. He mentioned the Great Name of Allāh and the earth between Sulaymān’s bed and the throne (of Bilqīs) sank within the ground. The earth and all of its flexible and inflexible parts sank within the ground, and Āsif lifted the throne (of Bilqīs) before the two pieces of land were attached. So Sulaymān (a.s) said, “It looks like it (the throne of Bilqīs) came out from under my bed.” Imam (a.s) added: Thereafter, the earth returned to the way it (originally) was in less than a blink of an eye.

2. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdil Ḥamīd Al-‘Aťťār, from Abī Jamīlah Mufaďďal ibn Sāliḥ, from Abī Usāmah Zayd Al-Shaḥḥām, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) said: Jabra`īl announced the news of the killing of Ḥusain (a.s) to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ in the house of Um Salamah. While Jabra`īl was with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, Ḥusain (a.s) entered. Jabra`īl said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Verily your nation will kill him.” The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Show me the dust on which his blood will be shed.” Jabra`īl took a handful of that dust and it was a red-coloured dust.

3. My father narrated to me from Sa’d (ibn ‘Abdillāh), from ‘Ali ibn Ismā’īl ibn ‘Isā, Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain ibn Abil Khaťťāb, and Ibrāhīm ibn Hāshim, from ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Isā, from Samā’ah ibn Mihrān, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) said: Jabra`īl announced the news of the killing of Ḥusain (a.s) to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ in the house of Um Salamah. While Jabra`īl was with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, Ḥusain (a.s) entered. Jabra`īl said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Verily your nation will kill him.” The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Show me the dust on which his blood will be shed.” Therefore, Jabra`īl took a handful of that dust and it was a red-coloured dust. Um Salamah kept that dust until she died.

4. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Muḥammad ibn Walīd Al-Khazzāz, from Ḥammād ibn ‘Uthmān, from ‘Abdil Malik ibn A’yan, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) say: (One day) when Jabra`īl was with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ in the house of Um Salamah, Ḥusain (a.s) entered. Jabra`īl said, “Verily your nation will kill this son of yours. Should I not show you the dust of the land on which he will be killed?” The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ replied, “Yes.” Therefore, Jabra`īl extended his hand (to the land on which Ḥusain (a.s) would be killed), took a handful of that dust, and then showed it to the Prophet ﷺ

5. Muḥammad ibn Ja’far Al-Qurashi Al-Razzāz narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, from Hārūn ibn Khārijah, from Abī Basīr, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) say: (One day) while Ḥusain ibn ’Ali (a.s) was with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, Jabra`īl came to him and asked, “O Muḥammad! Do you love him?” “Yes,” the Prophet ﷺ replied. “Verily your nation will kill him,” Jabra`īl said. So the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was extremely grieved. Jabra`īl asked, “O Messenger of Allāh! Would you like me to show you the land on which he will be killed?” “Yes,” the Prophet ﷺ replied. Then the land (between Karbalā and Madīnah) sunk within the ground and the place where the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was sitting (in Madīnah) and the land on which Ḥusain (a.s) was killed attached to one another like this – and Imam (a.s) put his two index fingers together. Imam (a.s) added: Jabra`īl then picked up some of the dust (of Karbalā) with his wing and gave it to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. Thereafter, the earth returned to the way it was in less than a blink of an eye. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ (while holding the dust of Karbalā in his hand) said to it, “O dust! You are blissful, and blissful is he who will be killed on you!”

6. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali Al-Washā`, from Aḥmad ibn ‘Ā`idh, from Abī Khadījah Sālim ibn Mukram Al-Jammāl, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s)) said: When Fāťimah (s.a.) gave birth to Ḥusain (a.s), Jabra`īl came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said, “Your nation will kill Ḥusain after you. Should I not show you some of his dust (the dust on which he will be killed)?” Then Jabra`īl hit the land of Karbalā with his wing, took some of its dust, showed it to the Prophet ﷺ, and said, “This is the dust on which he will be killed.”

7. My father narrated to me from Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali Al-Za’farāni, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Amr Al-Aslami, from ‘Amr ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Anbasah, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Amr, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbās, who said: The angel who came to Muḥammad ﷺ informing him of the killing of Ḥusain (a.s) was the Guardian Spirit, Jabra`īl. He came to the Prophet ﷺ with his wings spread out, crying and screaming. He was carrying some of the dust of Ḥusain (a.s) from which a fragrance emanated just as it does from musk. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ asked him, “Will a nation who kills my son – or the son of my daughter – achieve salvation?” Jabra`īl replied, “Allāh will afflict them with disagreements so their hearts will disagree with one another.” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: ‘Ubaydullāh ibn Faďl ibn Muḥammad ibn Hilāl, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Amīrah Al-Aslami, from ‘Amr ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Anbasah, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Amr, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbās.

8. Abul Ḥusain Aḥmad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Ali Al-Nāqid narrated to me from Ja’far ibn Sulaymān, from his father, from ‘Abdil Raḥmān Al-Ghanawi, from Sulaymān, who said: Was there any angel left in the heavens that did not come down to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ to console him with regards to his son, Ḥusain (a.s), and to inform him of the reward of Ḥusain (a.s) with Allāh?! And (was there any angel) who did not go to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, carrying some of the dust on which Ḥusain (a.s) fell, was injured, slaughtered, killed, and on which he was abandoned?! The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to say, “O Allāh! Abandon those who abandon Ḥusain, kill those who kill him, slaughter those who slaughter him, and do not fulfill their requests.” ‘Abdul Raḥmān (Al-Ghanawi) said: I swear to Allāh that the cursed Yazīd was soon taken (by Allāh for punishment) and he did not enjoy any pleasure after killing Ḥusain (a.s). He died suddenly with a crisis. He spent the night while he was drunk and he was found dead and deformed in the morning as if he was coated with tar. Anyone who followed the order of Yazīd in killing Ḥusain (a.s) or anyone who participated in fighting Ḥusain (a.s) became insane or was afflicted with leprosy which became a hereditary disease in their progeny. May Allāh’s curse be upon all of them. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: ‘Ubaydullāh ibn Faďl, from Ja’far ibn Sulaymān, from his father, from ‘Abdil Rḥmān Al-Ghanawi, from Sulaymān.

9. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Nasr, from ‘Abdil Karīm ibn Nasr, from ‘Abdil Karīm ibn ‘Amr, from Mu’allā ibn Khunays, who said: One morning, Fāťimah (s.a.) saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ crying and grieved. So she asked him, “What is upsetting you, O Messenger of Allāh?” However, the Prophet ﷺ refused to tell her the reason behind his grief. So Fāťimah (s.a.) said, “I will not eat or drink until you tell me.” Then the Prophet ﷺ said, “Jabra`īl brought me some of the dust on which a son, who has not been conceived yet, will be killed.” The Prophet ﷺ added, “She (Fāťimah (s.a.)) was not pregnant with Ḥusain (a.s) yet, and this was the dust of Ḥusain (a.s).”
