al-A‘rāf (The Elevations)
ٱلْأَعْرَاف

ثُمَّ
بَدَّلْنَا
مَكَانَ
السَّيِّئَةِ
الْحَسَنَةَ
حَتَّى
عَفَوا
وَّقَالُوا
قَدْ
مَسَّ
آبَاءَنَا
الضَّرَّاءُ
وَالسَّرَّاءُ
فَأَخَذْنَاهُم
بَغْتَةً
وَهُمْ
لَا
يَشْعُرُونَ
thumma baddalnā makāna s-sayyiʾati l-ḥasanata ḥattā ʿafaw wa-qālū qad massa ʾābāʾanā ḍ-ḍarrāʾu wa-s-sarrāʾu fa-ʾakhadhnāhum baghtatan wa-hum lā yashʿurūna
We then replaced their misfortune with well-being until they were relieved and began saying, "Our fathers had also experienced good and bad days." Suddenly, We struck them (with torment) while they were all unaware (of what was happening).
