حَتَّى

إِذَا

جَاءَنَا

قَالَ

يَالَيْتَ

بَيْنِي

وَبَيْنَكَ

بُعْدَ

الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ

فَبِئْسَ

الْقَرِينُ

ḥattā ʾidhā jāʾanā qāla yā-layta baynī wa-baynaka buʿda l-mashriqayni fa-biʾsa l-qarīnu

When he comes to Us, he will say, ‘I wish there had been between me and you the distance between the east and the west! What an evil companion [you are]!’

Ali Quli Qarai

At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)!
