Ghāfir (The Forgiver)

غَافِر

40:21

أَوَلَمْ

يَسِيرُوا

فِي

الْأَرْضِ

فَيَنظُرُوا

كَيْفَ

كَانَ

عَاقِبَةُ

الَّذِينَ

كَانُوا

مِن

قَبْلِهِمْ

كَانُوا

هُمْ

أَشَدَّ

مِنْهُمْ

قُوَّةً

وَآثَارًا

فِي

الْأَرْضِ

فَأَخَذَهُمُ

اللَّهُ

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

وَمَا

كَانَ

لَهُم

مِّنَ

اللَّهِ

مِن

وَاقٍ

ʾa-wa-lam yasīrū l-ʾarḍi fa-yanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu lladhīna kānū min qablihim kānū hum ʾashadda minhum quwwatan wa-ʾāthāran l-ʾarḍi fa-ʾakhadhahumu llāhu bi-dhunūbihim wa-mā kāna lahum mina llāhi min wāqin

Have they not travelled through the land to see the terrible end of those who lived before them. They had been mightier than them in power and in leaving their traces on earth. God punished them for their sins. They had no one to save them from God's torment.
