وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ
And when your Lord proclaimed, “If you are grateful, I will surely enhance you [in blessing], but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is indeed severe.” ’

Commentary on Quran 14:7-12
1. Gratefulness enhances bounties and otherwise (infidelity) calls in Divine wrath. 2. Listen to advice of Divine lights as they are Divine Messengers and have no selfish motive. 3. Greatest mishap is to deny Divine existence. Compare St. John 7:80: He which seeketh His Glory, who sent him, the same is true, and know righteousness is in him.
