11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Ushaym from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Someone in our family had a fever and physicians had prescribed al-ghafith (a certain herb) and we made the patient to drink it, but it did not benefit him I then complained against it before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), and he (the Imam) said, ‘Allah has not placed cure in anything which is bitter (only). Take one or one and a half piece of sugar in a bowl and pour water on it. Rub it with your hand and make the patient drink it. In the second night make it two and a half pieces of sugar, dissolve it and make the patient to drink. In the third night make it three and a half pieces and dissolve it as before.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I followed the instruction and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, granted cure to our patient.’”
