4. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Safwan from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following:

“I once asked abu Ibrahim , about the case of a man who divorces his wife in a Hayd (menses)-free period and without sexual intercourse; then goes back to her on the same day then divorces her with three divorces in one Hayd (menses)-free period. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is against Sunnah .’ I then asked, ‘Is it not the case that if he goes back to her to divorce her he must do so in a Hayd (menses)-free period?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘Yes, that is correct.’ I then said, ‘So that he can go to bed with her.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, that is correct.’”
