Ali ibn Hatim from Ali ibn Sulayman from Ahmad ibn Ishaq from Sadan ibn Muslim from Abdullah ibn al-Sarraj from a man from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him:
Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل by Your Might, Your Honor, Your Beauty, Your Power, Your Greatness, Your Light, and by every name that is Yours that You عز وجل place love for Yourself in my heart, and fear of You عز وجل in my soul, and belief in You عز وجل in my mind, and remembrance of You عز وجل on my tongue, and conviction in You عز وجل in my inner self. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, make my acts purely for Your face, sincere to You عز وجل, not seeking with them the praise of others, nor aiming by them for anything other than Your pleasure. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, make me among those who humble themselves before You عز وجل, hope from You عز وجل, are intimate with Your remembrance, and rely upon You عز وجل. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, cause me to die on the path of Your Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and raise me in His صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم company, and make me enter His صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم pool (hawdh), and give me to drink from his cup a drink after which I shall never thirst. And send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and make me among the righteous and obedient ones in this world and the Hereafter, by Your mercy, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful. And glory be to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, as often as anything glorifies Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and in the manner that Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves to be glorified. And praise be to Allah سبحانه وتعالى as often as anything praises Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and in the manner that Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves to be praised. And there is no God but Allah سبحانه وتعالى, as often as anything declares His عز وجل oneness, and in the manner that Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves to be declared One. And Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest as often as anything magnifies Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and in the manner that Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves to be magnified. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل for the keys of goodness, its conclusions, its complete portions, its benefits, its laws, and its blessings whatever my knowledge encompasses and whatever my memory falls short of counting. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and pave for me the paths of knowing it, and open for me its gates, and cover me with the blessings of Your mercy, and bestow upon me protection from deviation away from Your religion, and purify my heart from doubt, and do not preoccupy my heart with my worldly life and immediate livelihood to the detriment of the delayed reward of my Hereafter. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, Occupy my heart with preserving that which You عز وجل do not accept ignorance of from me. Make my tongue fluent for every good, and purify my heart from hypocrisy, and do not let it run through my limbs. Make my deeds purely for You عز وجل. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I seek refuge in You عز وجل from evil and from all forms of indecency both apparent and its hidden aspects, and its heedlessness, And all that the accursed Satan intends against me, and all that the stubborn tyrant intends against me from that which You عز وجل have encompassed in Your knowledge, and You عز وجل are capable of averting it from me. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I seek refuge in You عز وجل from the sudden attacks of jinn and humans, their whirlwinds, their calamities, their plots, and the scenes of the wicked among the jinn and humans. And (I seek refuge) from being made to slip from my religion so that my Hereafter is corrupted, and from that becoming a harm to me in my livelihood, or a trial befalling me from them which I have no strength to bear nor patience to endure. So do not test me, O’ my God عز وجل, with suffering through them in a way that would prevent me from Your remembrance or distract me from Your worship. You عز وجل are the One who protects, restrains, wards off, and shields from all of that. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل for ease and comfort in my livelihood for as long as You عز وجل keep me alive, a life by which I am strengthened in obedience to You عز وجل and attain through it Your pleasure and by which I may, through You عز وجل, reach the Abode of Life (the eternal life) tomorrow. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, grant me lawful sustenance that suffices me, and do not grant me sustenance that causes me to transgress. And do not test me with poverty by which I am made miserable and restricted. Grant me an abundant share in my Hereafter and a wide, pleasant, and wholesome livelihood in my worldly life. Do not make the world a prison upon me, and do not make parting from it a sorrow for me. Protect me from its trials, and make my deeds within it accepted, and my striving therein appreciated. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, whoever intends harm against me in it, then intend harm against him, and whoever plots against me, then plot against him. And turn away from me the worry of the one who has brought worry upon me, and plot against the one who plots against me for indeed You are the best of plotters. And blind from seeing me the eyes of the disbelievers, the oppressors, the tyrants, and the envious. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and send down upon me from You عز وجل tranquility, and clothe me in Your invincible armor, and protect me with Your shielding cover, and envelop me in Your beneficial well-being. And make my speech and my actions truthful, and bless me in my family, my children, my wealth, and all that I have put forth and delayed, and what I have neglected and what I have done deliberately, and what I have fallen short in, and what I have made public and what I have kept hidden so forgive it for me and have mercy on me, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful. And send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and his good, pure family عليه السلام, as You عز وجل are worthy of it, O’ Guardian of the believers.”
