Abū al-Ḥasan Mūsā was born in Al-Abwāʾ in the year 128 AH, though some say it was 129 AH. He passed away on the 6th of Rajab in the year 183 AH at the age of either 54 or 55. He
died in Baghdad while imprisoned by Al-Sindī ibn Shāhak.
Hārūn (Al-Rashīd) had him brought from Medina on the 20th of Shawwāl in 179 AH. Hārūn had entered Medina after performing the ʿUmrah of the month Ramadan, then proceeded to the Ḥajj, taking Mūsā with him. On his return via the route of Basra, he imprisoned him with ʿĪsā ibn Jaʿfar. Later, he sent him to Baghdad, where he was imprisoned by Al-Sindī ibn Shāhak.
Mūsā passed away in that prison and was buried in Baghdad in the Quraysh cemetery. His mother was Umm Walad, she was named as Ḥamīda.
