دُعَاؤُهُ عِنْدَ خَتْمِهِ الْقُرْآنَ

Upon Completing a Reading of the Qur'an

1
أَللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَعَنْتَنِي عَلَى خَتْمِ كِتَابِكَ
allāhumma innaka aʿantani ʿalā khatmi kitābik
O God, Thou hast helped me complete Thy Book,
2
الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَهُ نُوراً وَجَعَلْتَهُ مُهَيْمِناً
al-ladhī anzaltahu nūran wa jaʿaltahu muhayminan
which Thou sent down as a light and appointed as a guardian
3
عَلَى كُلِّ كِتَاب أَنْزَلْتَهُ،
ʿalā kulli kitābin anzaltahu
over every book Thou hast sent down,
4
وَفَضَّلْتَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَدِيث قَصَصْتَهُ،
wafadhdhaltahu ʿalaa kulli ḥadiith qassashtahu
preferring it over every narrative which Thou hast recounted,
5
وَفُرْقاناً فَرَقْتَ بِهِ بَيْنَ حَلالِكَ وَحَرَامِكَ،
wa furqānan faraqta bihī bayna ḥalālika wa ḥarāmika
a separator, through which Thou hast separated Thy lawful from Thy unlawful,
6
وَقُرْآناً أَعْرَبْتَ بِهِ عَنْ شَرَائِعِ أَحْكَامِكَ،
wa qur'ānan 'aʿrabta bihi ʿan sharāʾiʿi ahkāmika
a Qur'an, through which Thou hast made plain the approaches to Thy ordinances,

وَكِتَاباً فَصَّلْتَهُ لِعِبَادِكَ تَفْصِيلاً،
wa kitāban faṣṣaltahu li'ibādika tafṣīlā
a book, which Thou hast distinguished very distinctly for Thy servants,
8
وَوَحْياً أَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّد صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ تَنْزِيلاً،
wa wahyan anzaltahu ʿala nabiyyika muhammad ṣalātuka ʿalayhi wa ālihi tanzīlan
a revelation, which Thou hast sent down, a sending down, upon Thy prophet Muhammad (Thy blessings be upon him and his Household).
9
وَجَعَلْتَهُ نُوراً نَهْتَدِي مِنْ ظُلَمِ الضَّلاَلَةِ وَالْجَهَـالَةِ بِـاتِّبَاعِـهِ،
wajaʿaltahu nuran nahtadi min zulami al-dhalalati wal-jahalati bi at-tibaʿihi
Thou appointed it a light through following which we may be guided from the shadows of error and ignorance,
10
وَشِفَـاءً لِمَنْ أَنْصَتَ بِفَهْم التَّصْدِيقِ إلَى اسْتِمَاعِهِ،
wa-shifā'an li-man anṣata bi-fahmi al-taṣdīqi ilā istimā'ih
a healing for him who turns ear toward hearing it with the understanding of attestation,
11
وَمِيزَانَ قِسْط لاَ يَحِيْفُ عَنِ الْحَقِّ لِسَانُهُ،
wa mīzāna qisṭin lā yaḥīfu ʿani al-ḥaqqi lisānuhu
a just balance whose tongue does not incline away from truth,
12
وَنُورَ هُدىً لاَ يُطْفَأُ عَنِ الشَّاهِدِينَ بُرْهَانُهُ،
wa nūra hudan lā yuṭfa'u ʿani alshāhidīna burhānuhu
a light of guidance whose proof is not extinguished before the witnesses,
13
وَعَلَمَ نَجَاة لاَ يَضِلُّ مَنْ أَمَّ قَصْدَ سُنَّتِهِ
waʿalama najāt la yadillu man amma qasd sunnatihi
and a guidepost of deliverance, so that he who repairs straightway to its prescription will not go astray
14
وَلاَ تَنَالُ أَيْدِي الْهَلَكَاتِ مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ بِعُرْوَةِ عِصْمَتِهِ،
wa lā tanālu aydī al-halakāt man taʿallaqa biʿurwatī ʿiṣmatih
and he who clings to its preservation's handhold will not be touched by the hands of disasters.
15
أَللَّهُمَّ فَإذْ أَفَدْتَنَا الْمعُونَةَ عَلَى تِلاَوَتِهِ،
allāhumma fa'itha afadtanā almuaūnata 'alā tilāwatihi
O God, since Thou hast given us help to recite it
16
وَسَهَّلْتَ جَوَاسِيَ أَلْسِنَتِنَا بِحُسْنِ عِبَارَتِهِ،
wasahhaltal jawāsiya al-sinatinā bihusni ʿibāratihi
and made smooth the roughness of our tongues through the beauty of its expression,
17
فَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَرْعَاهُ حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهِ،
fajʿalna mimman yarʿahu haqqa riʿayatihi
place us among those who observe it as it should be observed,
18
وَيَدِينُ لَكَ بِاعْتِقَادِ التَّسْلِيْمِ لِمُحْكَمِ آياتِهِ،
wayadīnu laka biiʿtiqādi attaslīmi limuḥkami āyātihi
serve Thee by adhering in submission to the firm text of its verses,
19
وَيَفْزَعُ إلى الإِقْرَارِ بِمُتَشَابِهِهِ وَمُوضَحَاتِ بَيِّناتِهِ.
wayafzaʿu ilā al-iqrāri bi-mutashābihihī wa-mūḍaḥāti bayyinātihī
and seek refuge in admitting both its ambiguous parts and the elucidations of its clear signs!
20
أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ
allāhumma innaka anzaltahu ʿalā nabiyyika
O God, Thou sent it down upon Thy prophet
21
مُحَمَّد صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ مُجْمَلاً،
muḥammad ṣallá allāhu ʿalayhi wa-ālihi mujmalan
Muhammad (God bless him and his household) in summary form,
22
وَأَلْهَمْتَهُ عِلْمَ عَجَائِبِهِ مُكَمَّلاً،
wa 'alhamtahu 'ilm-a 'aja'ibihi mukammalan
Thou inspired him with the science of its wonders to complement it,
23
وَوَرَّثْتَنَا عِلْمَهُ مُفَسَّراً،
wa warraithtana ʿilmahu mufassiran
Thou made us the heirs of its knowledge as interpreters,
24
وَفَضَّلْتَنَا عَلَى مَنْ جَهِلَ عِلْمَهُ،
wa faḍḍaltanā ʿalá man jahila ʿilmahu
Thou made us to surpass him who is ignorant of its knowledge,
25
وَقَوَّيْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ لِتَرْفَعَنَا فَوْقَ مَنْ لَمْ يُطِقْ حَمْلَهُ.
waqawwaytanā ʿalayhi litarfaʿanā fawqa man lam yuṭiq ḥamlahu
and Thou gave us strength over it to raise us above those not able to carry it.
26
أللَّهُمَّ فَكَمَا جَعَلْتَ قُلُوبَنَا لَهُ حَمَلَةً،
allāhumma fakamā jaʿaltā qulūbanā lahū ḥamalatan
O God, just as Thou hast appointed our hearts as its carriers
27
وَعَرَّفْتَنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ شَرَفَهُ وَفَضْلَهُ،
wa ʿarraftanā birahmatika sharafahu wa faḍluhu
and made known to us through Thy mercy its nobility and excellence,
28
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد الْخَطِيْبِ بِهِ،
faṣallī ʿalā muḥammad al-khaṭīb bih
so also bless Muhammad, its preacher,
29
وَعَلَى آلِهِ الْخُزّانِ لَهُ،
wa ʿalā ālihi al-khuzzāni lah
and his Household, its guardians,
30
وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَعْتَرِفُ بِأَنـَّهُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ
wajʿalna mimman yaʿtarifu bi'annahu min ʿindika
and place us among those who confess that it has come from Thee,
31
حَتَّى لاَ يُعَارِضَنَا الشَّكُّ فِي تَصْدِيقِهِ
ḥattá lā yuʿāriḍanā ash-shakk fī taṣdīqih
lest doubt about attesting to it assail us,
32
وَلاَ يَخْتَلِجَنَا الزَّيْغُ عَنْ قَصْدِ طَرِيقِهِ.
walā yakh'talijanā al-zayghu ʿan qaṣdi ṭarīqih
or deviation from its straightforward path shake us!
33
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
34
وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَعْتَصِمُ بِحَبْلِهِ،
wa-jaʿalna mimman yaʿtasimu bihablihi
and make us one of those who hold fast to its cord,
35
وَيَـأْوِي مِنَ الْمُتَشَـابِهَاتِ إلَى حِرْزِ مَعْقِلِهِ،
waya'wī min al-mutashābihāt ilā ḥirzi ma'qilih
seek haven from its ambiguities in its fortified stronghold,
36
وَيَسْكُنُ فِي ظِـلِّ جَنَاحِهِ،
wayaskunu fi ẓilli janāhihi
rest in the shadow of its wing,
37
وَيَهْتَدِي بِضَوْءِ صَباحِِهِ،
wayahdī biḍawʾi ṣabāhihī
find guidance in the brightness of its morning,
38
وَيَقْتَدِي بِتَبَلُّج إسْفَارِهِ،
wayaqtaḍī bi-taballuj isfārihi
follow the shining of its disclosure,
39
وَيَسْتَصْبحُ بِمِصْباحِهِ،
wa yastasbaḥu bi miṣbāhih
acquire light from its lamp,
40
وَلا يَلْتَمِسُ ألْهُدَى فِي غَيْرِهِ.
walā yaltamisu al-hudā fī ghayrih
and beg not guidance from any other!
41
أللَّهُمَّ وَكَمَا نَصَبْتَ بِهِ مُحَمَّداً عَلَماً لِلدَّلالَةِ عَلَيْكَ،
allāhumma wa kamā naṣabta bihi muḥammadan ʿalamā li-l-dalālati ʿalayk
O God, just as through it Thou hast set up Muhammad as a guidepost to point to Thee
42
وَأَنْهَجْتَ بِآلِهِ سُبُلَ الرِّضَا إلَيْكَ.
wa anhajta bi ālihi subula al-ridda ilayka
and through his Household Thou hast made clear Thy good pleasure's roads to Thee,
43
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
so also bless Muhammad and his Household
44
وَاجْعَلِ القُرْآنَ وَسِيلَةً لَنَا إلَى أَشْرَفِ مَنَازِلِ الْكَرَامَةِ،
waajʿalil-qur'āna wasīlan lanā ilā ashrafimanaāzili al-karāmah
and make the Qur'an our mediation to the noblest stations of Thy honour,
45
وَسُلَّماً نَعْرُجُ فِيهِ إلَى مَحَلِّ السَّلامَةِ،
wa-sullamān naʿruju fīhī ilā maḥalli al-salāmah
a ladder by which we may climb to the place of safety,
46
وَسَبَباً نُجْزَى بِهِ النَّجاةَ فِي عَرْصَةِ الْقِيَامَةِ،
wasababan nu'jzā bihī al-najāt fī 'arṣaẗi al-qiyāmah
a cause for our being repaid with deliverance at the Plain of Resurrection,
47
وَذَرِيعَةً نُقْدِمُ بِهَا عَلَى نَعِيْمِ دَارِ الْمُقَامَةِ.
waḏariʿatan nuqdimu bihā ʿalā naʿīmi dāri al-muqāmatah
and a means whereby we may reach the bliss of the House of Permanence!
48
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
49
وَاحْطُطْ بالْقُرْآنِ عَنَّا ثِقْلَ الأوْزَارِ،
wa-aḥṭuṭ bil-qur'āni ʿannā ṯiqla-l-'awzār
lessen for us through the Qur'an the weight of heavy sins,
50
وَهَبْ لَنَا حُسْنَ شَمَائِلِ الأَبْرَارِ
wa hab lana ḥusna shamāʾili al-abrār
give to us the excellent qualities of the pious,
51
وَاقْفُ بِنَا آثَارَ الَّذِينَ قَامُوا لَكَ بِهِ
waqfu binā āthāra alladhīna qāmū laka bihī
and make us follow the tracks of those who stood before Thee
52
آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَأَطْرَافَ النَّهَارِ
ʾānāʾa allayli wa ʾaṭrāfa n-nahār
in the watches of the night and the ends of the day,
53
حَتَّى تُطَهِّرَنَا مِنْ كُلِّ دَنَس بِتَطْهِيرِهِ،
ḥattá tuṭahhiranā min kulli danas bi-taṭhīrihi
such that Thou purifiest us from every defilement through its purification
54
وَتَقْفُوَ بِنَا آثَارَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَضَـآءُوْا بِنُورِهِ،
wa taqfū binā āthāra allaḏīna istaḍāʾū bi-nūrih
and makest us to follow the tracks of those who have taken illumination from its light
55
وَلَمْ يُلْهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ عَنِ الْعَمَـل فَيَقْطَعَهُمْ بِخُدَعِ غُرُورِهِ.
walam yulhīhimu al-amalu ʿani al-ʿamali fayaqṭaʿahum bi-khudāʿi ghurūrihi
and whom expectation has not distracted from works, cutting them off through its delusions' deceptions!
56
أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
57
واجْعَلِ القُرْآنَ لنا فِي ظُلَمِ اللَّيالِي مُونِساً
wa'j'alil-qur'ana lana fi dhulami-l-layali mawnesan
and appoint the Qur'an for us an intimate in the shadows of nights
58
وَمِنْ نَزَغَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَخَطَرَاتِ الْوَسَاوِسِ حَارِساً،
wa min nazaghati ash-shaytani wa khatarati al-wasawisi harisan
and a guardian against the instigations of Satan and confusing thoughts,
59
وَلأقْدَامِنَا عَنْ نَقْلِهَا إلَى الْمَعَاصِيْ حَابِساً،
wa-l-aqdāminā `an naqlihā 'ilā al-ma`āṣī habisan
for our feet an obstruction from passing to acts of disobedience,
60
وَلأِلْسِنَتِنَا عَنِ الْخَوْضِ فِي الباطِلِ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَا آفَة مُخْرِساً،
wa l'il-sinatina 'ani al-khawdi fi al-batili min ghayri ma 'afah mukhrisan
for our tongues a silencer without blight preventing a plunge into falsehood,
61
وَلِجَوَارِحِنَا عَنِ اقْتِرَافِ الآثامِ زَاجِراً،
wa lijawarihina ʿani iqtirafi al-āthāmi zājiran
for our limbs a restrainer from committing sins,
62
وَلِمَا طَوَتِ الغَفْلَةُ عَنَّا مِنْ تَصَفُّحِ الاعْتِبَارِ نَاشِراً
wa lima ṭawat al-ghaflah ʿannā min taṣaffuḥ al-iʿtibār nāshiran
and for the scrutiny of heedfulness rolled up in heedlessness an unroller,
63
حَتَّى تُوصِلَ إلَى قُلُوبِنَا فَهْمَ عَجَائِبِهِ
ḥattā tuwṣila ʾilā qulūbinā fahm ʿajāʾibihī
such that Thou attachest to our hearts the understanding of the Qur'an's wonders
64
وَزَوَاجِرَ أَمْثَـالِهِ الَّتِي ضَعُفَتِ الْجِبَالُ الرَّوَاسِي
wa zawājira amthālihi allatī ḍaʿufatil jibālu al-rawāsi
and its restraining similitudes which immovable mountains in all their solidity
65
عَلَى صَلاَبَتِهَا عَنِ احْتِمَالِهِ.
ʿalā ṣalābatihā ʿani iḥtimālihi
were too weak to carry!
66
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
67
وَأَدِمْ بِالْقُرْانِ صَلاَحَ ظاهِرِنا،
wa-adim bil-qur'āni ṣalāḥaẓ-ẓāhirinā
and through the Qur'an make permanent the rightness of our outward selves,
68
وَاحْجُبْ بِهِ خَطَراتِ الْوَسَاوِسِ عَنْ صِحَّةِ ضَمَائِرِنَا،
waḥjub bihi khaṭarāt al-wasāwis ʿan ṣiḥḥat ḍamaʾirinā
veil the ideas of confusing thoughts from the soundness of our innermost minds,
69
وَاغْسِلْ بِهِ دَرَنَ قُلُوبِنَا وَعَلاَئِقَ أَوْزَارِنَا،
wa-ghsil bihi darana qulubina wa'alaʾiq auzarina
wash away the dirt of our hearts and the ties of our heavy sins,
70
وَاجْمَعْ بِهِ مُنْتَشَرَ أُمُورِنَا،
waajmaʿ bihi muntashara umoorina
gather our scattered affairs,
71
وَأَرْوِ بِهِ فِي مَـوْقِفِ الْعَرْضِ عَلَيْكَ ظَمَأ هَوَاجِرِنَا،
wa arwi bihi fi mawqifil 'ardhi 'alayka thama'a hawajirina
quench the thirst of our burning heat in the standing place of the presentation to Thee,
72
وَاكْسُنَا بِهِ حُلَلَ الأَمَانِ يَوْمَ الْفَزَعِ الأكْبَرِ فِي نشُورِنَا.
wa-khusunā bihī ḥulala al-amān yawma al-fazaʿi al-akbar fī našūrinā
and clothe us in the robes of security on the Day of the Greatest Terror at our uprising!
73
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
God, bless Muhammad and his Household
74
وَاجْبُرْ بِالْقُرْآنِ خَلَّتَنَا مِنْ عَدَمِ الإمْلاَقِ،
waajbur bil-qur'aani khal-latanaa min 'adam il'im-laaq
and through the Qur'an redress our lack - our destitution in poverty
75
وَسُقْ إلَيْنَا بِهِ رَغَدَ الْعَيْشِ وَخِصْبَ سَعَةِ الأرْزَاقِ،
wa suq ilayna bihi raghad al-'aysh wa khisb sa'ati al-arzaq
drive toward us the comforts of life and an abundance of plentiful provisions,
76
وَجَنِّبْنَا بِهِ الضَّرَائِبَ الْمَذْمُومَةَ وَمَدَانِيَ الأخْلاَقِ،
wajannibnā bihi al-ḍarāʾib al-madhmuuma wa madānīya al-akh-lāq
turn aside blameworthy character traits and base moral qualities,
77
وَاعْصِمْنَا بِهِ مِنْ هُوَّةِ الكُفْرِ وَدَوَاعِـي النِّفَاقِ
waʿṣimnā bihi min howwatil-kufri wa dawāʾi al-nifāq
and preserve us from the pit of unbelief and the motives for hypocrisy,
78
حَتَّى يَكُوْنَ لَنَا فِي الْقِيَامَةِ إلَى رِضْوَانِكَ وَجِنَانِكَ قَائِداً
ḥattá yakūna lanā fī al-qiyāmati ilá riḍwānika wa jinānika qāʾidā
such that the Qur'an may be for us at the resurrection a leader to Thy good pleasure and Thy gardens,
79
وَلَنَا فِي الدُّنْيا عَنْ سَخَطِكَ وَتَعَدِّي حُدُودِكَ ذَائِداً،
walana fi al-dunya ʿan sakhatika wa taʿaddi hududika dha'idan
for us in this world a protector against Thy displeasure and transgressing Thy bounds
80
وَلِمَا عِنْدَكَ بِتَحْلِيلِ حَلاَلِهِ وَتَحْرِيم حَرَامِهِ شَاهِداً.
wa lima ʿindaka bi taḥlīlī ḥalālihi wa taḥrīmi ḥarāmihi shāhidan
and for what is with Thee a witness by its declaring lawful the lawful and its declaring unlawful the unlawful!
81
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
82
وَهَوِّنْ بِالْقُرْآنِ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا كَرْبَ السِّيَاقِ،
wahawwin bil-qur'ani 'inda al-mawti 'ala anfusina karba al-siyaq
and through the Qur'an make easy for our souls at death the distress of the driving,
83
وَجَهْدَ الأنِينِ، وَتَرادُفَ الْحَشَارِجِ
wa jaḥdal anīn, wa tarāduf al-ḥashārij
the effort of the moaning, and the succession of the rattling,
84
إذَا بَلَغَتِ ألنُّفُوسُ التَّراقِيَ وَقِيلَ مَنْ رَاق
'idha balaghati al-nufus al-taraqiya waqila man raq'
'when souls reach the throats' (ref.75:26) "and it is said, 'Where is the enchanter"? (75:27)';
85
وَتَجَلَّى مَلَكُ الْمَوْتِ لِقَبْضِهَا مِنْ حُجُبِ الْغُيُوبِ،
wa tajallā malak al-mawt liqabḍihā min ḥujub al-ghuyūb
when the angel of death discloses himself to seize them from behind the veils of unseen things,
86
وَرَمَاهَا عَنْ قَوْسِ الْمَنَايَا بِأَسْهُمِ وَحْشَةِ الْفِرَاقِ،
wa ramāhā ʿan qaws al-manāyā bi-as'humi waḥshati al-firāqِ
letting loose at them from the bow of destinies the arrows of the terror of lonesome separation,
87
وَدَافَ لَهَا مِنْ ذَعَافِ الْمَوْتِ كَأْساً مَسْمُومَةَ الْمَذَاقِ،
wadaafa lahā min dḥaʿāfil mawt ka'asān masmūmat al-madhāq
and mixing for them from sudden death a cup poisoned to the taste;
88
وَدَنا مِنَّا إلَى الآخِرَةِ رَحِيلٌ وَانْطِلاَقٌ،
wa dana minna ila al-akhirati raheelun wa intilaqun
and when departure and release for the hereafter come close to us,
89
وَصَارَتِ الأعْمَالُ قَلاَئِـدَ فِي الأَعْنَاقِ،
wa ṣārati al-aʿmālu qalā'id fi al-aʿnāq
works become collars around the necks,
90
وَكَانَتِ الْقُبُورُ هِيَ الْمَأوَى إلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمِ التَّلاَقِ.
wa kānat al-qubūr hiya al-ma'wá ilá mīqāt yawm al-talāq
and the graves become the haven until the appointed time of the Day of Encounter!
91
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
92
وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي حُلُولِ دَارِ البِلَى
wa bārik lanā fī ḥulūl-i dār al-bilā
make blessed for us the arrival at the house of decay
93
وَطُولِ الْمُقَامَـةِ بَيْنَ أَطْبَـاقِ الثَّـرى،
wa ṭūl al-muqāmāti bayna aṭbāqi al-tharā
and the drawn out residence between the layers of the earth,
94
وَاجْعَلِ القبُورَ بَعْدَ فِرَاقِ الدُّنْيَا خَيْرَ مَنَازِلِنَا،
wa-ajʿalil-qubūra baʿda firāqi ad-dunyā khayra manāzilinā
appoint the graves, after separation from this world, the best of our waystations,
95
وَافْسَحْ لَنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي ضِيقِ مَلاَحِدِنَا،
wafsah lana bi-rahmatika fi ḍiqi malāḥidinā
make roomy for us through Thy mercy the narrowness of our tombs,
96
وَلا تَفْضَحْنَا فِي حَاضِرِي الْقِيَامَةِ بِمُوبِقَاتِ آثامِنَا،
walā tafḍaḥnā fī ḥāḍirī al-qiyāmati bimūbiqāti āthāminā
and disgrace us not among those present at the Resurrection through our ruinous sins!
97
وَارْحَمْ بِالْقُرْانِ فِيْ مَوْقِفِ الْعَرْضِ عَلَيْكَ ذُلَّ مَقَامِنَا،
wa-irham bil-qurʾani fi mawqifi al-ʿarḍi ʿalayka dhulla maqaminā
Through the Qur'an have mercy upon the lowliness of our station at the standing place of presentation to Thee,
98
وَثَبِّتْ بِهِ عِنْدَ اضْطِرَابِ جِسْرِ جَهَنَّمَ
wa thabbit bihi 'inda idtirab jisri jahannam
make firm the slips of our feet during the shaking of the bridge across hell
99
يَوْمَ الْمَجَازِ عَلَيْهَـا زَلَلَ أَقْدَامِنَا،
yawm al-majāzi ʿalayhā zallal aqdāminā
on the day of passage over it,
100
وَنَوِّرْ بِهِ قَبْلَ الْبَعْثِ سُدَفَ قُبُورنا،
wanawwir bihi qabla al-baʿthi sudafa quburuna
illuminate the darkness of our graves before the Uprising,
101
وَنَجِّنَا بِهِ مِنْ كُلِّ كَرْب يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
wa-najjinā bihī min kulli karbin yawm al-qiyāmah
and deliver us from every distress on the Day of Resurrection
102
وَشَدَائِدِ أَهْوَالِ يَوْمِ الطَّامَّةِ
wa shada'idih ahwali yawmi al-tammati
and from the hardships of terrors on the Day of Disaster!
103
وَبَيِّضْ وُجُوهَنَا يَوْمَ تَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهُ الظَّلَمَةِ
wa bayyid wujuhna yawma taswaddu wujuhu al-thalama
Whiten our faces on the day when the faces of wrongdoers are blackened
104
فِي يَوْمِ الْحَسْرَةِ وَالنَّدَامَةِ،
fī yawm al-ḥasraẗi wa al-nadāmaẗi
during the Day of Regret and Remorse,
105
وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا فِي صُدُورِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وُدّاً،
wajʿal lana fī ṣudūr al-muʾminīn wuddan
appoint love for us in the breasts of the faithful,
106
وَلاَ تَجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ عَلَيْنَا نَكَداً.
walā tajʿalil-ḥayāh ʿalaynā nakadāً
and make not life for us troublesome!
107
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad ʿabdika wa rasūlika
O God, bless Muhammad, Thy servant and Thy messenger,
108
كَمَا بَلَّغَ رِسَالَتَكَ، وَصَدَعَ بِأَمْرِكَ، وَنَصَحَ لِعِبَادِكَ.
ka-mā bal-lagha risālata-ka, wa-ṣaḍaʿa bi-am-rika, wa-naṣaḥa li-ʿibad-
just as He delivered Thy message, executed Thy command, and counselled Thy servants!
109
أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ نَبِيَّنا صَلَواتُكَ عَلَيْهِ
allāhumma ijʿal nabīyanā ṣalawātuka ʿalayhi
O God, make our Prophet (Thy blessings be upon him
110
وَعَلَى آلِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَقْرَبَ النِّبِيِّينَ مِنْكَ مَجْلِساً،
wa ʿalā ʾālihī yawm al-qiyāmah aqraba al-nnabīyyīna minka majlisāً
and his Household) on the Day of Resurrection the nearest of the prophets to Thee in seat,
111
وَأَمْكَنَهُمْ مِنْكَ شَفَاعَةً، وَأَجَلَّهُمْ عِنْدَكَ قَدْراً،
wa'amkanahum minka shafa'atan, wa'ajallahum 'indaka qadran
the ablest of them before Thee with intercession, the greatest of them with Thee in measure,
112
وَأَوْجَهَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ جَاهَاً.
wa-aʾwjahahum ʿindaka jahāً
and the most eminent of them with Thee in rank!
113
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد وَشَرِّفْ بُنْيَانَهُ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa āli muḥammad wa shar rif bunyānah
O God, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, ennoble his edifice,
114
وَعَظِّمْ بُرْهَانَهُ، وَثَقِّلْ مِيزَانَهُ،
waʿaẓẓim burhānahu, wa thaqqil mīzānahu
magnify his proof, make weighty his balance,
115
وَتَقَبَّلْ شَفَاعَتَهُ وَقَرِّبْ وَسِيلَتَهُ،
wa taqabbal shafāʿatahu wa qarrib wasīlatahu
accept his intercession, bring near his mediation,
116
وَبَيِّضْ وَجْهَهُ، وَأَتِمَّ نُورَهُ،
wa bayyid wajhahu, wa atimm nūrah
whiten his face, complete his light,
117
وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ، وَأَحْيِنَا عَلَى سُنَّتِهِ،
wa-arfaʿ darajatahu, wa-ahyina ʿala sunnatihi
and raise his degree! Make us live according to his Sunna
118
وَتَوَفَّنَا عَلَى مِلَّتِهِ، وَخُذْ بِنَـا مِنْهَاجَـهُ،
wa tawaffana ʿala millatihi, wa khudh bina minhajih
make us die in his creed, take us on his road,
119
وَاسْلُكْ بِنَا سَبِيلَهُ، وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ طَاعَتِهِ،
wa-asluk bina sabee-lahu, wa-aj'alna min ahli ta'atih
make us travel his path, place us among the people who obey him,
120
وَاحْشُرْنَا فِي زُمْرَتِهِ،
wa'aḥshurnā fī zumratihī
muster us in his band,
121
وَأَوْرِدْنَا حَوْضَهُ، وَاسْقِنَا بِكَأسِهِ.
wa awridnā ḥawdahu, wa asqinā bi ka'sihi
lead us to up his pool, and give us to drink of his cup!
122
أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma wa ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
And bless Muhammad and his Household,
123
صَلاةً تُبَلِّغُهُ بِهَا أَفْضَلَ
ṣalātan tuballighuhā bihā afḍala
with a blessing through which Thou wilt take him to the most excellent
124
مَا يَأْمُلُ مِنْ خَيْرِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ وَكَرَامَتِكَ
ma ya'mul min khayrik wa fadlik wa karamatik
of what He hopes of Thy good, Thy bounty, and Thy generosity!
125
إنَّكَ ذُوْ رَحْمَة وَاسِعَة وَفَضْل كَرِيم.
ʾinnaka dhū raḥmatin wāsiʿah wa faḍlun karīm
Thou art Possessor of boundless mercy and generous bounty.
126
أللَّهُمَّ اجْزِهِ بِمَا بَلَّغَ مِنْ رِسَالاتِكَ
allāhumma ajzihī bimā ballagh min risālātika
O God, repay him for Thy messages which he delivered,
127
وَأَدَّى مِنْ آيَاتِكَ وَنَصَحَ لِعِبَادِكَ
wa adda min ayatika wa nasaḥa li'ibadika
Thy signs which he passed on, the good counsel he gave to Thy servants,
128
وَجَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَيْتَ
wa jāhada fī sabīlika afḍala mā jazayta
and the struggle he undertook in Thy way, with the best Thou hast repaid
129
أَحَداً مِنْ مَلائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَأَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ.
aḥadan min malāʾikatika almuqarrabīna wa anbiyāʾika al-mursalīna almuṣṭafayna
any of Thy angels brought nigh and Thy prophets sent out and chosen!
130
وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ
wa al-salāmu ʿalayhi wa ʿalā ālih al-ṭayyibīn al-ṭāhirīn
And upon him and his Household, the good, the pure, be peace,
131
وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.
wa raḥmatu allāhi wa barakātuhu
God's mercy, and His blessings!
