مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) وَ هُوَ فِي بَيْتٍ مُنَجَّدٍ وَ عَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ رَطْبٌ وَ مِلْحَفَةٌ مَصْبُوغَةٌ قَدْ أَثَّرَ الصِّبْغُ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ وَ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى هَيْئَتِهِ فَقَالَ يَا حَكَمُ مَا تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا فَقُلْتُ وَ مَا عَسَيْتَ أَنْ أَقُولَ وَ أَنَا أَرَاهُ عَلَيْكَ وَ أَمَّا عِنْدَنَا فَإِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُهُ الشَّابُّ الْمُرَهَّقُ فَقَالَ لِي يَا حَكَمُ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي أَخْرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِ وَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ وَ هَذَا مِمَّا أَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ لِعِبَادِهِ فَأَمَّا هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي تَرَى فَهُوَ بَيْتُ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ أَنَا قَرِيبُ الْعَهْدِ بِالْعُرْسِ وَ بَيْتِي الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي تَعْرِفُ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Mu‘awiyah ibn Maysarah from al- Hakam ibn ‘Utaybah who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja‘far , in a well-furnished house. He (the Imam) was wearing a shirt which was not fully dry and a colored bed sheet which had left its color marks on his shoulder, and I was looking at the house and to him (the Imam). He (the Imam) said, ‘O Hakam, what do you say about it?’ I replied, ’I was about to say something about it after seeing it on you. With us it is used only by the youthful ones.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O Hakam, ‘Who has made unlawful the beautiful things that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has brought out for His servants and the very fine kinds of means of sustenance/ (7:31) This is of the things that Allah has made to come out for His servants. This house which you see is the house of the woman and I am not far away from the time of the wedding, however, my house is that which you know/”
الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حُمْرَانَ وَ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ( عليهما السلام ) قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِلُبْسِ الْمُعَصْفَرِ .
2. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Muhammad ibn Humran and Jamil ibn Darraj from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not unlawful to wear a cloth which is dyed with al-Mu‘asfar (dye with safflower)/”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) ثَوْباً مُعَصْفَراً فَقَالَ إِنِّي تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ .
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once saw abu Ja‘far , in al-Mu‘asfar (dye with safflower) dress and he (the Imam) said that he has just married a woman from Quraysh/”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَنْ لُبْسِ ثِيَابِ الشُّهْرَةِ وَ لَا أَقُولُ نَهَاكُمْ عَنْ لِبَاسِ الْمُعَصْفَرِ الْمُفْدَمِ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah , has stated this Hadith. ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited the dress causing public abhorrence and I do not say he (the Messenger of Allah) prohibited you from wearing clothes dyed with safflower, sharp red color/”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ يُكْرَهُ الْمُفْدَمُ إِلَّا لِلْعَرُوسِ .
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah , has said, ‘Wearing clothes of sharp color is not desirable except for weddings/”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ جَرَّاحٍ الْمَدَائِنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّا نَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَاتِ وَ الْمُضَرَّجَاتِ .
6. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from al-Qasim ibn Sulayman from Jarrah al-Mad’iniy who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far , has said, ‘Wearing clothes of sharp color is not desirable except for weddings/”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ بُرَيْدٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) وَ عَلَيْهِ مِلْحَفَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ جَدِيدَةٌ شَدِيدَةُ الْحُمْرَةِ فَتَبَسَّمْتُ حِينَ دَخَلْتُ فَقَالَ كَأَنِّي أَعْلَمُ لِمَ ضَحِكْتَ ضَحِكْتَ مِنْ هَذَا الثَّوْبِ الَّذِي هُوَ عَلَيَّ إِنَّ الثَّقَفِيَّةَ أَكْرَهَتْنِي عَلَيْهِ وَ أَنَا أُحِبُّهَا فَأَكْرَهَتْنِي عَلَى لُبْسِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّا لَا نُصَلِّي فِي هَذَا وَ لَا تُصَلُّوا فِي الْمُشْبَعِ الْمُضَرَّجِقَالَ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَ قَدْ طَلَّقَهَا فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُهَا تَبَرَّأُ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ ( عليه السلام ) فَلَمْ يَسَعْنِي أَنْ أُمْسِكَهَا وَ هِيَ تَبَرَّأُ مِنْهُ .
7. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from Burayd from Malik ibn ’A‘yan who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja‘far . A sheet of sharp red color was on him. I smiled when I entered. He (the Imam) said, ‘It seems I know why you are laughing. You laugh because of this cloth on me. It is because the Thaqafiy woman forced me to wear it and I love her.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘We do not perform Salat (prayer) in a cloth of sharp color and you also must not perform Salat (prayer) with such clothes.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘Afterward I went to see him when he had divorced her and he (the Imam) said, ‘I divorced her because I heard her denounce Ali
, so I could not keep her with such attitude.”’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) يَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَ وَ الْمُنَيَّرَ .
8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from abu al-Jarud who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far , would wear al-Mu‘asfar (dye with safflower) clothes and printed clothes.”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَتْ لَهُ مِلْحَفَةٌ مُوَرَّسَةٌ يَلْبَسُهَا فِي أَهْلِهِ حَتَّى يَرْدَعَ عَلَى جَسَدِهِوَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) كُنَّا نَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَ فِي الْبَيْتِ .
9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah , has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, had a sheet that was from Wars (a place in Yemen). He (the Messenger of Allah) would use it in the family. The color of the sheet had left marks on him (the Messenger of Allah).’ Abu Ja‘far
, has said, ‘We would use al-Mu‘asfar (dye with safflower) clothes at home.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ صِبْغُنَا الْبَهْرَمَانُ وَ صِبْغُ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ الزَّعْفَرَانُ .
10. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far , has said, ‘We would dye our clothes al-Mu‘asfar (dye with safflower) and banu ’Umayyah died with saffron dye.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) طَيْلَسَاناً أَزْرَقَ .
11. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus who has said the following: “I saw abu al-Hassan , wearing al-Taylisan (pallium) of blue color.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) ثَوْباً عَدَسِيّاً .
12. Muhammad ibn ‘Isa has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ali who has said the following: “I saw Ali ibn al-Husayn , wearing clothes of lentil color.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الزَّيَّاتِ الْبَصْرِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَا وَ صَاحِبٌ لِي وَ إِذَا هُوَ فِي بَيْتٍ مُنَجَّدٍ وَ عَلَيْهِ مِلْحَفَةٌ وَرْدِيَّةٌ وَ قَدْ حَفَّ لِحْيَتَهُ وَ اكْتَحَلَ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَنْ مَسَائِلَ فَلَمَّا قُمْنَا قَالَ لِي يَا حَسَنُ قُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ غَداً فَائْتِنِي أَنْتَ وَ صَاحِبُكَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَفَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَ إِذَا هُوَ فِي بَيْتٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ إِلَّا حَصِيرٌ وَ إِذَا عَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ غَلِيظٌ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى صَاحِبِي فَقَالَ يَا أَخَا أَهْلِ الْبَصْرَةِ إِنَّكَ دَخَلْتَ عَلَيَّ أَمْسِ وَ أَنَا فِي بَيْتِ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ كَانَ أَمْسِ يَوْمَهَا وَ الْبَيْتُ بَيْتَهَا وَ الْمَتَاعُ مَتَاعَهَا فَتَزَيَّنَتْ لِي عَلَى أَنْ أَتَزَيَّنَ لَهَا كَمَا تَزَيَّنَتْ لِي فَلَا يَدْخُلْ قَلْبَكَ شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبِي جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ قَدْ كَانَ وَ اللَّهِ دَخَلَ فِي قَلْبِي شَيْءٌ فَأَمَّا الْآنَ فَقَدْ وَ اللَّهِ أَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ مَا كَانَ وَ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ الْحَقَّ فِيمَا قُلْتَ .
13. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muskan from al-Hassan al-Zayyat al-Basriy who has said the following: “My friend and I once visited abu Ja‘far , when he (the Imam) was in a well- furnished home. He had a flowery sheet on him, his beard was trimmed and kohl (metallic color eye powder) was applied to his eyes. We asked him (the Imam) certain questions and when we were to leave, he (the Imam) said to me, ‘O Hassan,’ and I replied, ‘Yes, here I am, to obey your command.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Tomorrow come to me with your friend.’ I replied, ‘Yes, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause.’ The next day we went to meet him (the Imam) and he (the Imam) was in a house with no furnishing except a mat and was wearing a rough-textured shirt. He (the Imam) turned to my friend and said, ‘O brother from al-Basrah, yesterday you came to me when I was in the house of the woman. Yesterday was her day, the house is her house, and the furnishing is her furnishing. She had dressed up for me on condition that I dress up for her as she had dressed up for me. So do not think anything.’ My friend said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, by Allah there was something in my heart but now by Allah, Allah has removed what was in my heart. The truth is in what you just said.’”
