Al-Kāfi

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ قَوْلِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ ما بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَمْنَعُ مِنْ زَكَاةِ مَالِهِ شَيْئاً إِلاَّ جَعَلَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ذَلِكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُعْبَاناً مِنْ نَارٍ مُطَوَّقاً فِي عُنُقِهِ يَنْهَشُ مِنْ لَحْمِهِ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنَ الْحِسَابِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هُوَ قَوْلُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ ما بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ يَعْنِي مَا بَخِلُوا بِهِ مِنَ الزَّكَاةِ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ’Abd Allah ibn Muskan from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Once I asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about the following words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ’. . . whatever they are avaricious about will be tied to their necks on the Day of Judgment. . (3:180) The Imam said, ‘O abu Muhammad, if one refuses to pay zakat Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, on the Day of Judgment will make a serpent of fire to curl around his neck and bite his flesh until He completes His judging all people.’ He then said, ’The words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, “Whatever they are avaricious about will be tied to their necks” is a reference to their avarice in paying zakat.”’

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مَرَّارٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ يَرْفَعُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ بَيْنَا رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فِي الْمَسْجِدِ إِذْ قَالَ قُمْ يَا فُلاَنُ قُمْ يَا فُلاَنُ قُمْ يَا فُلاَنُ حَتَّى أَخْرَجَ خَمْسَةَ نَفَرٍ فَقَالَ اخْرُجُوا مِنْ مَسْجِدِنَا لاَ تُصَلُّوا فِيهِ وَأَنْتُمْ لاَ تُزَكُّونَ.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Isma’if ibn Marrar from Yunus from ibn Muskan in a marfu‘ manner from a man who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Once, when, in the Masjid, the Messenger of Allah asked several people to stand up. They numbered five people and then he asked them, ’Leave our Masjid. Do not perform Salah (prayer) here; you do not pay zakat.’”

3ـ يُونُسُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ مَنَعَ قِيرَاطاً مِنَ الزَّكَاةِ فَلَيْسَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ وَلاَ مُسْلِمٍ وَهُوَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ. لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صالِحاً فِيما تَرَكْتُ. وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى وَلاَ تُقْبَلُ لَهُ صَلاَةٌ.

3. Yunus has narrated from Ali ibn abu Hamzah from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that if one refuses to pay even a Qirat of zakat, he is not a believer or a Muslim and this is mentioned in the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, as follows: ’. . . Lord, allow me to go back so I can do good deeds in what I have left. . . .’(23:99-100)” In another Hadith it is said, ‘His Salah (prayer) is not accepted.’”

4ـ يُونُسُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَا مِنْ ذِي زَكَاةِ مَالٍ نَخْلٍ أَوْ زَرْعٍ أَوْ كَرْمٍ يَمْنَعُ زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ إِلاَّ قَلَّدَهُ الله تُرْبَةَ أَرْضِهِ يُطَوَّقُ بِهَا مِنْ سَبْعِ أَرَضِينَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.

4. Yunus has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever refuses to pay zakat due on any produce of his palm trees, plantations or vineyard, Allah makes that land up to seven levels to hang from his neck until the Day of Judgment.’”

5ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ تَغْلِبَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) دَمَانِ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ حَلاَلٌ مِنَ الله لاَ يَقْضِي فِيهِمَا أَحَدٌ حَتَّى يَبْعَثَ الله قَائِمَنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ فَإِذَا بَعَثَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَائِمَنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ حَكَمَ فِيهِمَا بِحُكْمِ الله لاَ يُرِيدُ عَلَيْهِمَا بَيِّنَةً الزَّانِي الْمُحْصَنُ يَرْجُمُهُ وَمَانِعُ الزَّكَاةِ يَضْرِبُ عُنُقَهُ. عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ سَعْدَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ تَغْلِبَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) نَحْوَهُ.

5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from Malik ibn ‘Attiyyah from Aban ibn Taghlib who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said to me, ‘Allah has made it lawful, in Islam, to destroy two kinds of lives. No one can issue judgment about it until the rise of a person from our Ahl al-Bayt. When Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, allows this person from our Ahl al-Bayt, he then judges them according to the laws of Allah without calling any witness to testify. One such life is the life of an already married fornicator who is stoned to death and one who refuses to pay zakat due on him who is beheaded (for this crime).”’ A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Muhammad ibn Ali from Musa ibn Sa’dan from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from Malik ibn ‘Atiyyah from Aban ibn Taghlib from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) a similar Hadith.”

6ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْخَشَّابِ عَنِ ابْنِ بَقَّاحٍ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ أَدَّى الزَّكَاةَ فَنَقَصَتْ مِنْ مَالِهِ وَلاَ مَنَعَهَا أَحَدٌ فَزَادَتْ فِي مَالِهِ.

6. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Khashshab from ibn Baqqah from Mu’adh ibn Thabit from ‘Amr ibn Jumay‘ who has said the foiiowing: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that there is no one who pays his zakat who then experiences any decrease in his wealth. Also no increase takes place in the wealth of one who refuses to pay zakat which is due on him.”

7ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَمْنَعُ دِرْهَماً فِي حَقِّهِ إِلاَّ أَنْفَقَ اثْنَيْنِ فِي غَيْرِ حَقِّهِ وَمَا رَجُلٌ يَمْنَعُ حَقّاً مِنْ مَالِهِ إِلاَّ طَوَّقَهُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِهِ حَيَّةً مِنْ نَارٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.

7. Afi ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from ‘ Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘If one dirham of rights of a person is denied it can cause double of this much to be spent elsewhere. If anyone refuses to pay a right which is due on his wealth, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, because of this will cause a serpent of fire to curl around him on the Day of Judgment.’”

8ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَلْعُونٌ مَلْعُونٌ مَالٌ لاَ يُزَكَّى.

8. Afi ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from abu Ayyub from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Condemned and condemned indeed is one who refuses to pay zakat.’”

9ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَعْنِي الأوَّلَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَخْرَجَ زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ تَامَّةً فَوَضَعَهَا فِي مَوْضِعِهَا لَمْ يُسْأَلْ مِنْ أَيْنَ اكْتَسَبَ مَالَهُ.

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Faddal from Ali ibn ‘Uqbah from abu al-Hassan, the first (a.s.), who has said the following: “If one pays, completely, the amount of zakat which is due on his wealth to the proper recipient, he is not asked how he has earned his wealth.”

10ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ قَوْلِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ ما بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ قَالَ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ مَنَعَ مِنْ زَكَاةِ مَالِهِ شَيْئاً إِلاَّ جَعَلَ الله لَهُ ذَلِكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُعْبَاناً مِنْ نَارٍ يُطَوَّقُ فِي عُنُقِهِ يَنْهَشُ مِنْ لَحْمِهِ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنَ الْحِسَابِ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ ما بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ قَالَ مَا بَخِلُوا بِهِ مِنَ الزَّكَاةِ.

10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mehran from ibn Muskan from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, ‘. . . whatever they are avaricious about will be tied to their necks on the Day of Judgment. . .’ (3:180). 11ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ وُهَيْبِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ مَنْ مَنَعَ الزَّكَاةَ سَأَلَ الرَّجْعَةَ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ. لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صالِحاً فِيما تَرَكْتُ.

11. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn al-Husayn from Wahab ibn Hafs from abu Basir who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘One who refuses to pay zakat, on the time of his death asks to be returned to life again and this is referred to in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, “. . . Lord, allow me to go back so I can do good deeds in what I have left. . (23:99-100)

12ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ صَلاَةٌ مَكْتُوبَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عِشْرِينَ حَجَّةً وَحَجَّةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ بَيْتٍ مَمْلُوءٍ ذَهَباً يُنْفِقُهُ فِي بِرٍّ حَتَّى يَنْفَدَ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَلاَ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ ضَيَّعَ عِشْرِينَ بَيْتاً مِنْ ذَهَبٍ بِخَمْسَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دِرْهَماً فَقُلْتُ وَمَا مَعْنَى خَمْسَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دِرْهَماً قَالَ مَنْ مَنَعَ الزَّكَاةَ وُقِفَتْ صَلاَتُهُ حَتَّى يُزَكِّيَ.

12. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Hassa’n from certain individuals of his people who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that performing an obligatory Salah (prayer) is more excellent than twenty Hajj and one Hajj is more excellent than giving as charity one houseful of gold.’ The narrator has said that the Imam then said, ‘There is no salvation for one who loses twenty housefuls of gold for only (because of not paying) twenty- five dirham.’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘What is the meaning of twenty- five dirham?’ The Imam replied, ‘One who fails to pay zakat his Salah (prayer) is withheld until he pays zakat which is due on his wealth.’”

13ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ مَلْعُونٌ مَلْعُونٌ مَالٌ لاَ يُزَكَّى.

13. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that condemned, and condemned indeed is (a property or) one who does not pay zakat.”

14ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ مَنَعَ قِيرَاطاً مِنَ الزَّكَاةِ فَلْيَمُتْ إِنْ شَاءَ يَهُودِيّاً أَوْ نَصْرَانِيّاً.

14. Abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from those whom he has mentioned from Hafs ibn ‘Umar from Salim from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that one (Muslim) who does not pay zakat dies as a Jew or a Christian; (he is given the chance to choose).”

15ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ مَا ضَاعَ مَالٌ فِي بَرٍّ وَلاَ بَحْرٍ إِلاَّ بِتَضْيِيعِ الزَّكَاةِ وَلاَ يُصَادُ مِنَ الطَّيْرِ إِلاَّ مَا ضَيَّعَ تَسْبِيحَهُ.

15. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hassan from Ali ibn al-Nu‘man from Ishaq who has said the following: “Narrated to me one who had heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘A property is not lost, on land or in the sea, unless payment of its zakat is withheld. A bird does not become victim of hunting unless it forgets glorifying Allah.’”

16ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ مَانِعُ الزَّكَاةِ يُطَوَّقُ بِحَيَّةٍ قَرْعَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ مِنْ دِمَاغِهِ وَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ ما بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ.

16. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from Ali ibn ‘Uqbah from Ayyub ibn Rashid who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘One who refuses to pay zakat will have a bald serpent curled around him. It will feed on his brain. This is mentioned in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, “. . . whatever they are avaricious about will be tied to their necks on the Day of Judgment. . . ’”” (3:180)

17ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) إِذَا مُنِعَتِ الزَّكَاةُ مَنَعَتِ الأرْضُ بَرَكَاتِهَا.

17. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from Malik ibn ‘Atiyyah from abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘We have found in the book of Ali (a.s.), that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘When paying zakat is refused, the land withholds her blessings.’”

18ـ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله الْعَاصِمِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْمِيثَمِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَسْبَاطِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبَانٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ طَيْرٍ يُصَادُ إِلاَّ بِتَرْكِهِ التَّسْبِيحَ وَمَا مِنْ مَالٍ يُصَابُ إِلاَّ بِتَرْكِ الزَّكَاةِ.

18. Abu ‘Abd Allah al-‘Asemiy has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy from Ali ibn Asbat from his father, Asbat ibn Salim from Salim Mawla Aban who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘A bird does not become victim of hunting unless it forgets Tasbih (glorifying Allah). A property is not lost unless zakat which is due on it is withheld.’”

19ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) مَا مِنْ ذِي مَالٍ ذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ يَمْنَعُ زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ إِلاَّ حَبَسَهُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِقَاعٍ قَرْقَرٍ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِ شُجَاعاً أَقْرَعَ يُرِيدُهُ وَهُوَ يَحِيدُ عَنْهُ فَإِذَا رَأَى أَنَّهُ لاَ مَخْلَصَ لَهُ مِنْهُ أَمْكَنَهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ فَقَضِمَهَا كَمَا يُقْضَمُ الْفُجْلُ ثُمَّ يَصِيرُ طَوْقاً فِي عُنُقِهِ وَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ ما بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ وَمَا مِنْ ذِي مَالٍ إِبِلٍ أَوْ غَنَمٍ أَوْ بَقَرٍ يَمْنَعُ زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ إِلاَّ حَبَسَهُ الله يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِقَاعٍ قَرْقَرٍ يَطَؤُهُ كُلُّ ذَاتِ ظِلْفٍ بِظِلْفِهَا وَيَنْهَشُهُ كُلُّ ذَاتِ نَابٍ بِنَابِهَا وَمَا مِنْ ذِي مَالٍ نَخْلٍ أَوْ كَرْمٍ أَوْ زَرْعٍ يَمْنَعُ زَكَاتَهَا إِلاَّ طَوَّقَهُ الله رَيْعَةَ أَرْضِهِ إِلَى سَبْعِ أَرَضِينَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.

19. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Muhammad ibn Khalid from Khalaf ibn Hammad from Hariz who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Any wealthy person owning gold and silver who refuses to pay zakat, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, on the Day of Judgment will keep him in captivity in a flat land. He (Allah) will send a bald serpent who will chase him and he will flee until he finds it impossible to escape. He (the person) will then allow the serpent to get his hand and it will bite it like a turnip. It will then curl around his neck. This is referred to in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, “. . . whatever they are avaricious about will be tied to their necks on the Day of Judgment . . .” (3:180) Every owner of camels, sheep or cows who refuses to pay zakat will be held in Allah’s captivity on the Day of Judgment, in a flat land where every hooved-animal will walk on him and every sharp-toothed animal will bite him. Every owner of palm trees, vineyards or plantation who refuses to pay zakat will be made by Allah to have that land up to seven levels tied around his neck up to the Day of Judgment.’”

20ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله عَنْ أَبِيهِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَا حَبَسَ عَبْدٌ زَكَاةً فَزَادَتْ فِي مَالِهِ.

20. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father, from af-Nawfafiy from al-Sakuniy from abu ’Abd Allah from his father, ‘Alayhim al- Salam, who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘If a person withholds payment of zakat due on his wealth, his wealth does not increase.’”

21ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ مَنَعَ حَقّاً لله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْفَقَ فِي بَاطِلٍ مِثْلَيْهِ.

21. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam from who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that one who refuses to pay the right of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, spends double as much for falsehood.”

22ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ نُوحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ الله تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يَبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ نَاساً مِنْ قُبُورِهِمْ مَشْدُودَةً أَيْدِيهِمْ إِلَى أَعْنَاقِهِمْ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يَتَنَاوَلُوا بِهَا قِيسَ أَنْمُلَةٍ مَعَهُمْ مَلاَئِكَةٌ يُعَيِّرُونَهُمْ تَعْيِيراً شَدِيداً يَقُولُونَ هَؤُلاَءِ الَّذِينَ مَنَعُوا خَيْراً قَلِيلاً مِنْ خَيْرٍ كَثِيرٍ هَؤُلاَءِ الَّذِينَ أَعْطَاهُمُ الله فَمَنَعُوا حَقَّ الله فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ.

22. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ayyub ibn Nuh from ibn Sinan from abu al-Jarud who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, the most Holy, the most High, will raise a people from their graves, on the Day of Judgment, their hands tied up to their necks and they will not be able to take anything even from a distance of one finger. Angels along with them censure them severely and say, “These were the ones who withheld a small amount of good, which could gain for them a great deal of good. These are those who refused to pay the right of Allah from their wealth.’”

23ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُمْهُورٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَدِيدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ رُشَيْدٍ عَنْ مَعْرُوفِ بْنِ خَرَّبُوذَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَرَنَ الزَّكَاةَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ أَقِيمُوا الصَّلاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكاةَ فَمَنْ أَقَامَ الصَّلاَةَ وَلَمْ يُؤْتِ الزَّكَاةَ لَمْ يُقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ.

23. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Jumhur from his father from Ali ibn Hadid from ‘Uthman from ibn Rashid from Ma‘ruf ibn Kharrabuz who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has joined zakat with Salah (prayer), saying, “Maintain Salah (prayer) and pay zakat.” Thus, if one does not pay zakat, he has not performed Salah (prayer).”’
