Offering greeting of peace to a Person Performing Salah (Prayer) and Sneezing in Salah (prayer)
3 Aḥadīth

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُسَلَّمُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ يَرُدُّ سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلاَ يَقُولُ وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمُ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) كَانَ قَائِماً يُصَلِّي فَمَرَّ بِهِ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ عَمَّارٌ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) هَكَذَا.


1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s), about a man who is offered Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) while he performs Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘He responds by saying, 'Salamun ‘Alaykum,' but he does not say, 'Alaykum al-Salam.' The Messenger of Allah once was standing in Salah (prayer) when ‘Ammar Ibn Yasir passed by and offered Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace). The Holy prophet responded in this way.'"

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا عَطَسَ الرَّجُلُ فِي صَلاَتِهِ فَلْيَحْمَدِ الله.


2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said, ‘In case of sneezing in Salah (prayer) one should say, ‘Tahmid, (all praise belongs to Allah).”

3ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ مُعَلًّى أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَسْمَعُ الْعَطْسَةَ وَأَنَا فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَأَحْمَدُ الله وَ أُصَلِّي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِذَا عَطَسَ أَخُوكَ وَأَنْتَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لله وَصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَإِنْ كَانَ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ صَاحِبِكَ الْيَمُّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ.


3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from Mu‘alla’ abu ‘Uthman from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), ‘In Salah (prayer) I hear sneezing, can I then praise Allah and say, “O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause?” 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, when your brother (in belief) sneezes while you are in Salah (prayer) say, “All praise belongs to Allah. O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause; even if there is an ocean between you and your friend, say, ‘O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.” 5 ”
