21. Bandages and Wounds

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْكَسِيرِ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَبَائِرُ أَوْ تَكُونُ بِهِ الْجِرَاحَةُ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ بِالْوُضُوءِ وَعِنْدَ غُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ وَغُسْلِ الْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ يَغْسِلُ مَا وَصَلَ إِلَيْهِ الْغُسْلُ مِمَّا ظَهَرَ مِمَّا لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ الْجَبَائِرُ وَيَدَعُ مَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ مِمَّا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ غَسْلَهُ وَلاَ يَنْزِعُ الْجَبَائِرَ وَلاَ يَعْبَثُ بِجِرَاحَتِهِ.


1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, al-Rida, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about how to go about for Wudu’ on a broken part (to be washed or wiped for Wudu’) with bandage or a wound on them, or when taking a Ghusl (bath) due to sexual relation or Friday Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘One must wash the parts that are not covered by the bandage and leave the parts that are not accessible because of it, one must not remove the bandage and must not play around with the wound.”’

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْجُرْحِ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ بِهِ صَاحِبُهُ قَالَ يَغْسِلُ مَا حَوْلَهُ.


2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from’Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about how one should take Wudu’ with a wound. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must wash the area around it.’”

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَكُونُ بِهِ الْقَرْحَةُ فِي ذِرَاعِهِ أَوْ نَحْوِ ذَلِكَ فِي مَوْضِعِ الْوُضُوءِ فَيُعَصِّبُهَا بِالْخِرْقَةِ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهَا إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ يُؤْذِيهِ الْمَاءُ فَلْيَمْسَحْ عَلَى الْخِرْقَةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ لاَ يُؤْذِيهِ الْمَاءُ فَلْيَنْزِعِ الْخِرْقَةَ ثُمَّ لْيَغْسِلْهَا قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْجُرْحِ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ بِهِ فِي غَسْلِهِ قَالَ اغْسِلْ مَا حَوْلَهُ.


3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about a man in whose forearm there is a wound or such part to wash or wipe for Wudu’ which is bandaged with a piece of fabric, he takes Wudu’ and wipes on it when taking Wudu’. He (the Imam) said, ‘If water hurts him he must wipe over the fabric, but if water does not hurt, he must remove the fabric, then wash it.’ I (the narrator) then asked about the case of a wound, how to deal with it for a Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘One must wash the area around it.’”

4ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الأعْلَى مَوْلَى آلِ سَامٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَثَرْتُ فَانْقَطَعَ ظُفُرِي فَجَعَلْتُ عَلَى إِصْبَعِي مَرَارَةً فَكَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ بِالْوُضُوءِ قَالَ يُعْرَفُ هَذَا وَأَشْبَاهُهُ مِنْ كِتَابِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ما جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ امْسَحْ عَلَيْهِ.


4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Ali ibn al-Hassan ibn Ribat from ‘Abd al-A’la’, Mawla’ Ale Sam who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I slipped and my toe nail suffered a cut. I have placed a bitter ointment on my toe. How should I take Wudu’?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This and such matters are learned from the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, which says, “Allah has not sanctioned anything in religion which may cause you hardships.” You must wipe over the bandage.’””
