Al-Amālī

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن علي الاسترابادي (1) رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا يوسف بن محمد بن زياد وعلي بن محمد بن سيار، عن أبو يهما، عن الحسن بن علي بن محمد بن علي بن موسى بن جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين ابن علي بن أبي طالب، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، عن أمير المؤمنين (صلوات الله عليه)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): قال الله تبارك وتعالى: قسمت فاتحة الكتاب بيني وبين عبدي، فنصفها لي ونصفها لعبدي، ولعبدي ما سأل، إذا قال العبد: (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) قال الله جل جلاله: بدأ عبدي باسمي، وحق علي أن أتمم له أموره. وابارك له في أحواله، فإذا قال: (الحمد لله رب العالمين) قال الله جل جلاله: حمدني عبدي وعلم أن النعم التي له من عندي، وأن البلايا التي دفعت (2) عنه فبتطولي، أشهدكم أني أضيف له إلى نعم الدنيا نعم الآخرة، وأدفع (1) عنه بلايا الآخرة كما دفعت عنه بلايا الدنيا، فإذا قال: (الرحمن الرحيم) قال الله جل جلاله: شهد لي بأني الرحمن الرحيم، أشهدكم لاوفرن من رحمتي حظه، ولاجزلن من عطائي نصيبه، فإذا قال: (مالك يوم الدين) قال الله عز وجل: أشهدكم، كما اعترف لي أني أنا مالك يوم الدين، لاسهلن يوم الحساب حسابه، ولا تقبلن حسناته، ولا تجاوزن عن سيئاته، فإذا قال: (إياك نعبد) قال الله عز وجل: صدق عبدي إياي يعبد، أشهدكم لاثيبنه على عبادته ثوابا يغبطه كل من خالفه في عبادته لي، فإذا قال: (وإياك نستعين) قال الله عز وجل: بي استعان وإلي التجأ، أشهدكم لاعيننه على أمره، ولاغيثنه في شدائده، ولآخذن بيده يوم نوائبه، فإذا قال: (اهدنا الصراط المستقيم) (2) إلى آخر السورة، قال الله عز وجل: هذا لعبدي ولعبدي ما سأل، قد استجبت لعبدي وأعطيته ما أمل، وآمنته مما منه وجل (3).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Ali al-Istarabadi (ra) narrated to us. He said: Yusuf b. Muhammad b. Ziyad and `Ali b. Muhammad b. Sayyar narrated to us from their fathers from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Muhammad b. `Ali b. Musa b. Ja`far b. Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib from his father from his forefathers (as) from Amir al-Mu’minin (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Allah said: I have divided the Fatiha of the Book between Me and My servant. Half of it is for Me, and half of it is for My servant. For My servant is whatever he asks. When the servant says: “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful” (1:1), Allah says: “My servant has begun with My name, and it is My responsibility to fulfill his affairs and to bless him in his condition.” When he says: “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds” (1:2), He says: “My servant has praised Me, and he knows that the blessings that he has are from Me, and that the calamities that have been deflected from him were due to My power. I testify to you that I will offer him the good of this world and the good of the Hereafter, and I will deflect the calamities of the Hereafter from him just as I deflect the calamities of this world from him.” When he says: “The Beneficent, the Merciful” (1:3), Allah says: “My servant has testified that I am the Beneficent and the Merciful. I testify to you that I will set some of My mercy in his omen, and I will grant him a share of My bestowal.” When he says: “Master of the Day of Judgment” (1:4), Allah says: “I testify that just as you recognize that I am the Master of the Day of Judgment, I will ease his judgment, and not punish him for his sins.” When he says: “You do we worship” (1:5), Allah says: “He worships Me. I testify to you that I will reward him with a blessing for everyone that goes against him due to his worship of Me.” When he says: “and from You do we seek help” (1:5), Allah says: “He seeks help in Me. I testify to you that I will support him in his affairs, I will assist him in his hardships, and I will take him by his hand in his moments of destitution.” When he says: “Guide us to the straight path” (1:6) to the end of the chapter, Allah says: “This is My servant, and for My servant is whatever he asks. I have answered My servant, and I have given him whatever he has hoped for. I have secured him from what is greater than him.”

2 - وقيل لامير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): يا أمير المؤمنين، أخبرنا عن (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) أهي من فاتحة الكتاب؟ فقال: نعم، كان رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقرأها ويعدها آية منه، ويقول: فاتحة الكتاب؟ هي السبع المثاني (4).

It was said to Amir al-Mu’minin (as): O Amir al-Mu’minin! inform us about “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful” (1:1) – is it from the Fatiha of the Book? So, he said: Yes, the Messenger of Allah (s) would recite it, and afterwards a verse from it. And he would say: The Fatiha of the Book is the Seven Oft-Coupled Verses.

3 - حدثنا محمد بن القاسم، قال: حدثني يوسف بن محمد بن زياد وعلي بن محمد بن سيار، عن أبويهما، عن الحسن بن علي، عن أبيه علي بن محمد، عن أبيه محمد بن علي، عن أبيه الرضا علي بن موسى، عن أبيه موسى بن جعفر، عن أبيه جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه محمد بن علي، عن أبيه علي بن الحسين، عن أبيه الحسين بن علي، عن أخيه الحسن بن علي (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): إن (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) آية من فاتحة الكتاب، وهي سبع آيات تمامها (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: إن الله عز وجل قال لي: يا محمد (ولقد ءاتيناك سبعا من المثاني والقرءان العظيم) (1) فأفرد الامتنان علي بفاتحة الكتاب، وجعلها بإزاء القرآن العظيم، وإن فاتحة الكتاب أشرف ما في كنوز العرش، وإن الله عزوجل خص محمدا وشرفه بها. ولم يشرك معه فيها أحدا من أنبيائه، ما خلا سليمان (عليه السلام)، فإنه أعطاه منها (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم)، ألا تراه يحكي عن بلقيس حين قالت (إنى ألقى إلى كتاب كريم * إنه من سليمان وإنه بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) (2)؟ ألا فمن قرأها معتقد لموالاة محمد وآله الطيبين، منقادا لامرهما، مؤمنا بظاهرهما وباطنهما (3)، أعطاه الله عز وجل بكل حرف منها حسنة، كل واحدة منها أفضل له من الدنيا بما فيها من أصناف أموالها وخيراتها، ومن استمع إلى قارئ يقرؤها كان له قدر ثلث ما للقارئ، فليستكثر أحدكم من هذا الخير المعرض لكم، فإنه غنيمة، لا يذهبن أوانه، فتبقى في قلوبكم الحسرة (4).

Muhammad b. al-Qasim narrated to us. He said: Yusuf b. Muhammad b. Ziyad and `Ali b. Muhammad b. Sayyar narrated to me from their father from al-Hasan b. `Ali from his father `Ali b. Muhammad from his father Muhammad b. `Ali from his father al-Rida `Ali b. Musa from his father Musa b. Ja`far from his father Ja`far b. Muhammad form his father Muhammad b. `Ali from his father `Ali b. al-Husayn from his father al-Husayn b.`Ali from his brother al-Hasan b. `Ali (as). He said: Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said: Surely, “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful” (1:1) is a verse from the Fatiha of the Book. It is seven verses, the best of which is “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” (1:1) I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: Surely, Allah said to me: O Muhammad! “We have given you the Seven Oft-Coupled verses and the Great Qur’an” (15:87), so be grateful to Me through the Fatiha of the Book and put it at the beginning of the Great Qur’an. Surely, the Fatiha of the Book is more honourable than the treasures of the Throne. Surely, Allah has chosen Muhammad and honoured him with it, and no prophet shares [any of] that honour except Sulayman (as), for he was given “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful” (27:30), which is seen in the story of Balqis, who said, “It is from Sulayman, and it reads: In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” (27:30). Surely, whomever recites it, whilst aligned with Muhammad and his Righteous Family, acting by their orders, and believing in their apparent and esoteric [teachings], Allah will give him a deed for every letter: each of which is better than this world and everything in it, from its wealth to its goodness. Whomever listens to a reciter who recites it will be given the same reward at the reciter. So, you should increase this good thing that has been given to you, for it is a treasure that does not disappear with time, and it will remain in your repentant hearts.

4 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن علي بن الحكم، عن المفضل بن صالح، عن جابر، عن أبي جعفر (عليه السلام)، قال: لما نزلت هذه الآية (وجائ يومئذ بجهنم) (5) سئل عن ذلك رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فقال: أخبرني الروح الامين أن الله لا إله غيره، إذا جمع الاولين والآخرين أتي بجهنم تقاد بألف زمام، آخذ بكل زمام مائة ألف ملك من الغلاظ الشداد، لها هدة (1) وتغيظ وزفير، وإنها لتزفر الزفرة، فلولا أن الله عز وجل أخرهم إلى الحساب لاهلكت الجمع، ثم يخرج منها عنق (2) يحيط بالخلائق البر منهم والفاجر، فما خلق الله عز وجل عبدا من عباده ملكا ولا نبيا إلا نادى: رب نفسي نفسي، وأنت يا نبي الله تنادي: أمتي أمتي. ثم يوضع عليها صراط أدق من حد السيف، عليه ثلاث قناطر: أما واحدة فعليها الامانة والرحم، وأما الاخرى فعليها الصلاة، وأما الاخرى فعليها عدل رب العالمين لا إله غيره، فيكلفون الممر عليه فتحبسهم الرحم والامانة، فإن نجوا منها حبستهم الصلاة، فإن نجوا منها كان المنتهى إلى رب العالمين عز وجل، وهو قوله تبارك وتعالى: (إن ربك لبالمرصاد) (2). والناس على الصراط، فمتعلق، وقدم تزل، وقدم تستمسك والملائكة حولهم ينادون: يا حليم اغفر واصفح، وعد بفضلك وسلم، والناس يتهافتون فيها كالفراش، فإذا نجا ناج برحمة الله عز وجل، نظر إليها فقال: الحمد لله الذي نجاني منك بعد إياس بمنه وفضله، إن ربنا لغفور شكور (4).

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from his father from `Ali b. al-Hakam from al-Mufaddal b. Salih from Jabir from Abi Ja`far (as). He said: When this verse, “And brought, that Day, is Hell” (89:23) was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (s) was asked about that, so he said: The Trustworthy Spirit informed me that when Allah – and there is no god except Him – raises the creation, and brings the firsts and the lasts together, He will bring forth Hell, which be steered by one thousand reins, and each rein will be held by one thousand rough, severe angels. It has a clunk, rage, a wail, and a howl. It wails with a wail. Had Allah not delayed them for the Judgment, it would have consumed everything. Then, a flare will emerge from it that will surround the creatures, both the righteous and the transgressor. Allah has not created a servant from the servants of Allah, nor an angel, nor a prophet, except that he will call out: “My self, my self!” But you, O Prophet of Allah, will call out: “My Nation, my Nation!” Then, a Path will be placed upon it that is thinner than a hair and sharper than a sword. There will be three arches upon it: the first will be safety and mercy, the second will be prayer, and the third will be the justice of the Lord of the Worlds, there is no god except Him. They will be made to pass upon it, then safety and mercy will trap them. If they overcome that, then prayer will trap them. If they overcome that, then the end is to the Lord of the Worlds, and that is His saying, “Surely, your Lord is in observation” (89:14). The people will be upon the Path, and they will hang from it with the hand, and the foot will slip, so they will cling [to it] by the foot. The angels around it will call: “O Forbearing One! Forgive, and fulfill Your promise, by Your grace! Give peace, give peace.” The people will fall into the Fire like a moth. If a person is saved by mercy and passes through it, he will say: “Praise be to Allah, and by His blessing, good works are fulfilled, and good deeds are purified. Praise be to Allah, who saved me from you after despair by His favour and His grave. Surely, our Lord is Forgiving and Thankworthy.”

5 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن محمد بن خالد البرقي، عن القاسم بن محمد الجوهري، عن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن أبي بصير، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال: الناس يمرون على الصراط طبقات، والصراط أدق من الشعر ومن حد السيف، فمنهم من يمر مثل البرق، ومنهم من يمر مثل عدو الفرس، ومنهم من يمر حبوا، ومنهم من يمر مشيا، ومنهم من يمر متعلقا، قد تأخذ النار منه شيئا وتترك شيئا (1).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa narrated to us from Muhammad b. Khalid al-Barqi from al-Qasim b. Muhammad al-Jawhari from `Ali b. Abi Hamza from Abi Basir from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: People will pass through the Path in different ranks. The Path is thinner than a hair and sharper than a sword. Some will pass through it like lightning, some will pass through it galloping, some will pass through it walking, and some will pass through it crawling. Some will pass through it hanging, and the Fire will overtake part of him and leave part of him.

6 - حدثنا أحمد بن زياد الهمداني (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم ابن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن جميل بن دراج، عن الصادق جعفر ابن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال: إذا أراد الله عز وجل أن يبعث الخلق أمطر السماء على الارض أربعين صباحا، فاجتمعت الاوصال ونبتت اللحوم (2).

Ahmad b. Ziyad al-Hamadani (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Jamil b. Darraj from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: When Allah decides to resurrect the creation, He will cause the sky to rain on the Earth for forty mornings. Then, the bones, the vegetation, and the flesh will reassemble.

7 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن الريان بن الصلت، عن الرضا علي بن موسى، عن أبيه موسى بن جعفر، عن أبيه جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه محمد بن علي، عن أبيه علي بن الحسين، عن أبيه الحسين بن علي (عليهم السلام)، قال: رأى أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) رجلا من شيعته بعد عهد طويل، وقد أثر السن فيه، وكان يتجلد في مشيته، فقال (عليه السلام): كبر سنك يا رجل. قال: في طاعتك يا أمير المؤمنين. فقال (عليه السلام): إنك لتتجلد؟ قال: على أعدائك يا أمير المؤمنين. فقال (عليه السلام): أجد فيك بقية: قال: هي لك يا أمير المؤمنين (3).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from his father from al-Rayyan b. al-Salt from al-Rida `Ali b. Musa from his father Musa b. Ja`far from his father Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father Muhammad b. `Ali from his father `Ali b. al-Husayn from his father al-Husayn b. `Ali (as). He said: Amir al-Mu’minin (as) saw a man from his Shi`a after a long time [away from him], and the signs of aging were visible on him. He had a limp in his walk. So, he (as) said: O man! You have aged. He said: In obedience to you, O Amir al-Mu’minin. So, he (as) said: You are limping. He said: Due to your enemies, O Amir al-Mu’minin. So, he (as) said: I see some strength in you. He said: It is for you, O Amir al-Mu’minin.

/ 8 - قال الريان بن الصلت: وأنشدني الرضا (عليه السلام) لعبد المطلب: يعيب الناس كلهم زمانا * * وما لزماننا عيب سوانا نعيب زماننا والعيب فينا * * ولو نطق الزمان بنا هجانا وإن الذئب يترك لحم ذئب * * ويأكل بعضنا بعضا عيانا (4)

Al-Rayyan b. al-Salt said: al-Rida (as) recited a poem of `Abd al-Mutalib to me: “All the people blame time, But there is nothing as blameworthy in our time as us, We blame our time when we are to blame, If time could talk, it would have attacked us. Surely, a wolf leaves the flesh of a wolf, But we knowingly eat [the flesh of] one another.”

9 - حدثنا جعفر بن محمد بن مسرور (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا الحسين بن محمد بن عامر، عن عمه عبد الله بن عامر، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن عبد الله بن القاسم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن علي (عليهم السلام)، قال: كن لما لا ترجو أرجى منك لما ترجو، فإن موسى بن عمران (عليه السلام) خرج يقتبس لاهله نارا، فكلمه الله عز وجل فرجع نبيا، وخرجت ملكة سبأ فأسلمت مع سليمان (عليه السلام)، وخرج سحرة فرعون يطلبون العزة لفرعون فرجعوا مؤمنين (1).

Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Masrur (rh) narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. `Amer narrated to us from his uncle `Abdullah b. `Amer from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from `Abdullah b. al-Qasim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his grandfather from `Ali (as). He said: Be more hopeful in that which you have no hope than in that which you have hope. Surely, Musa b. `Imran (as) went to fetch some fire for his family, yet Allah spoke to him and he returned [to them] as a prophet. The queen of Saba’ came out and accepted Islam with Sulayman (as). The magicians of Pharaoh went out seeking glory for Pharaoh, yet they returned as believers.

10 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، قال: حدثنا موسى بن عمران النخعي، عن عمه الحسين بن يزيد النوفلي، عن محمد بن سنان، عن المفضل بن عمر، قال: قال الصادق (عليه السلام): حدثني أبي، عن أبيه (عليهما السلام): أن الحسن بن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) كان أعبد الناس في زمانه، وأزهدهم وأفضلهم، وكان إذا حج حج ماشيا، وربما مشى حافيا، وكان إذا ذكر الموت بكى، وإذا ذكر القبر بكى، وإذا ذكر البعث والنشور (2) بكى، وإذا ذكر الممر على الصراط بكى، وإذا ذكر العرض على الله تعالى ذكره شهق شهقة يغشى عليه منها. وكان إذا قام في صلاته ترتعد فرائصه بين يدي ربه عز وجل، وكان إذا ذكر الجنة والنار اضطرب اضطراب السليم، وسأل الله تعالى الجنة، وتعوذ به من النار، وكان (عليه السلام) لا يقرأ من كتاب الله عز وجل: (يا أيها الذين ءامنوا) إلا قال: لبيك اللهم لبيك، ولم ير في شئ من أحواله إلا ذاكرا لله سبحانه، وكان أصدق الناس لهجة، وأفصحهم منطقا. ولقد قبل لمعاوية ذات يوم: لو أمرت الحسن بن علي بن أبي طالب، فصعد المنبر فخطب ليتبين للناس نقصه. فدعاه فقال له: اصعد المنبر وتكلم بكلمات تعظنا بها. فقام (عليه السلام) فصعد المنبر، فحمد الله وأثنى عليه، ثم قال: أيها الناس، من عرفني فقد عرفني، ومن لم يعرفني فأنا الحسن بن علي بن أبي طالب، وابن سيدة النساء فاطمة بنت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، أنا ابن خير خلق الله، أنا ابن رسول الله، أنا ابن صاحب الفضائل، أنا ابن صاحب المعجزات والدلائل، أنا ابن أمير المؤمنين، أنا المدفوع عن حقي، أنا وأخي الحسين سيدا شباب أهل الجنة، أنا ابن الركن والمقام، أنا ابن مكة ومنى، أنا ابن المشعر وعرفات. فقال له ��عاوية: يا أبا محمد، خذ في نعت الرطب ودع هذا. فقال (عليه السلام): الريح تنفخه، والحر ينضجه، والبرد يطيبه. ثم عاد (عليه السلام) في كلامه، فقال: أنا إمام خلق الله، وابن محمد رسول الله، فخشي معاوية أن يتكلم بعد ذلك بما يفتتن (1) به الناس، فقال: يا أبا محمد، انزل فقد كفى ما جرى، فنزل (2).

`Ali b. Ahmad (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Musa b. `Imran al-Nakha`i narrated to us from his uncle al-Husayn b. Yazid al-Nawfali from Muhammad b. Sinan from al-Mufaddal b. `Umar. He said: al-Sadiq (as) said: My father narrated to me from his father (as): Al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) was the most devout, ascetic, and virtuous person of his time. When he would perform Hajj, he would perform Hajj on foot – sometimes barefoot. When he would remember death, he would weep. When he would remember the grave, he would weep. When he would remember the Resurrection, he would weep. When he would remember the passing on the Path, he would weep. When he would remember a promise to Allah, he would gasp in a way that would distress him. When he would stand in prayer, his limbs would tremble before his Lord. When he would remember Paradise and the Fire, it was as though he was stung; he would ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire. He (as) would not recite “O you who believe” from the Book of Allah except that he would say: “I am at Your service, O Allah, I am at Your service.” (labbayk allahumma labbayk) He would not be seen in any condition except that he would be remembering Allah. He was the most truthful of people in words and the most eloquent of them in speech. It was proposed to Mu`awiya one day: “If you order al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib to climb the pulpit, his defects will become clear to the people.” So, he called for him and said to him: “Climb the pulpit and speak words that will exhort us.” So, he (as) stood, climbed the pulpit, praised and commended Allah, and said: “O people! Whoever knows me knows me, and whoever does not know me: I am al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib. I am the son of the Mistress of Women Fatima the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (s). I am the son of the best of Allah’s creation. I am the son of the Messenger of Allah. I am the son of the possessor of merit. I am the son of the possessor of miracles and signs. I am the son of Amir al-Mu’minin. I am the one who has been ejected from my right. I and my brother al-Husayn are the Two Masters of the Youth of Paradise. I am the son of the rukn and the maqam. I am the son of Mecca and Mina. I am the son of al-Mash`ar (in Muzdalifa) and `Arafat.” So, Mu`awiya said to him: “O Aba Muhammad, take a date and leave this.” So, he (as) said: “Wind expands it, heat ripens it, and cold sweetens it.” Then, he (as) returned to his speech. He said: “I am the Imam of the creation of Allah. I am the son of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah.” So, Mu`awiya was too humiliated to speak thereafter, as the people were enchanted by him. So, he said: “O Aba Muhammad! Descend, for what you have said is sufficient.” So, he descended.
