 أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِدْرِیسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی إِبْرَاهِیمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ عُبَیْدِ اللَّهِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: فِی السِّوَاکِ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَهَ خَصْلَهً هُوَ مِنَ السُّنَّهِ وَ مَطْهَرَهٌ لِلْفَمِ وَ مَجْلَاهٌ لِلْبَصَرِ وَ یُرْضِی الرَّحْمَنَ وَ یُبَیِّضُ الْأَسْنَانَ وَ یَذْهَبُ بِالْحَفْرِ وَ یَشُدُّ اللِّثَهَ وَ یُشَهِّی الطَّعَامَ وَ یَذْهَبُ بِالْبَلْغَمِ وَ یَزِیدُ فِی الْحِفْظِ وَ یُضَاعِفُ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَ تَفْرَحُ بِهِ الْمَلَائِکَهُ.

1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to us by Ahmad b. Idris who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ahmad who said it was narrated to me by Ibrahim b. Ishaq from Muhammad b. Isa from ’Ubayd-Allah al-Dahqan from Durust b. Mansur from Abdillah b. Sinan from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “There are twelve virtues of doing Miswak – it is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.), it cleans the mouth, improves eyesight, Allah becomes pleased, teeth are cleansed, teeth are prevented from decay, jaws become stronger, it increases appetite, it removes phlegm, it improves memory, it doubles the good deeds of a person and angels become happy.”

 حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِیدٍ الْمَدَائِنِیِّ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَهَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ السَّابَاطِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع لَوْ یَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِی السِّوَاکِ لَأَبَاتُوهُ مَعَهُمْ فِی اللِّحَافِ.

2.  It  is  narrated  from  Imam  Ja’far  Sadiq  (a.s.)  that  Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) said, “If people would have known the benefit of doing Miswak they would have done it even on their beds.”

 أَبِی ره عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ أَبِی الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ یَحْیَی عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ أَبِی الْبِلَادِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ یَحْیَی بْنِ أَبِی الْبِلَادِ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: السِّوَاکُ یَذْهَبُ بِالْبَلْغَمِ وَ یَزِیدُ فِی الْعَقْلِ.

3. Abi (rah) from Abdillah b. Ja’far from Muhammad b. al-Hussain b. Abi al-Khattab from Safwan b. Yahya from Ibrahim b. Abi al-Balad from his father Yahya b. Abi al-Balad from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “Doing Miswak removes phlegm and increases intelligence.”
