فَلَمَّا جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَرِحُوا بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ
When their apostles brought them manifest proofs, they boasted about the knowledge they possessed, but they were besieged by what they used to deride.

Commentary on Quran 40:83
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 40:83] Aqa Mahdi Puya says: This verse also refers to those who exult in their knowledge of the laws governing the universe, without realising that they are merely discovering the laws made by Allah to administer the working of the created worlds, and from their own point of view unscientifically mock at any thing beyond the sphere of their observation and experiment .
