وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَمْلَيْتُ لَهَا وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٌ ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهَا وَإِلَيَّ الْمَصِيرُ
To how many a town did I give respite while it was doing wrong! Then I seized it, and toward Me is the destination.

[Pooya/Ali Commentary 22:48] Aqa Mahdi Puya says: This verse and verse 45 indicate that in the case of some wrongs the wrongdoers are caught while doing the wrong and in some cases they are given a respite but caught afterwards. In any case they will not escape punishment.
