وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَّكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُم مِّن بَأْسِكُمْ فَهَلْ أَنتُمْ شَاكِرُونَ
We taught him the making of coats of mail for you, to protect you from your [own] violence. Will you then be grateful?

Commentary on Quran 21:80
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 21:80] Aqa Mahdi Puya says: Allah taught Dawud the making of coats of mail which is a defensive armour, therefore is associated with righteousness in Saba: 10 and 11 (wherein it is also said that Allah made the iron soft for Dawud) in contrast with the deadly weapons which man invents for offensive purposes. All fighting unless in defence of righteousness is mere violence.
