al-Baqarah (The Cow)
ٱلْبَقَرَة
2:271
إِن
تُبْدُوا
الصَّدَقَاتِ
فَنِعِمَّا
هِيَ
وَإِن
تُخْفُوهَا
وَتُؤْتُوهَا
الْفُقَرَاءَ
فَهُوَ
خَيْرٌ
لَّكُمْ
وَيُكَفِّرُ
عَنكُم
مِّن
سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ
وَاللَّهُ
بِمَا
تَعْمَلُونَ
خَبِيرٌ
ʾin tubdū ṣ-ṣadaqāti fa-niʿimmā hiya wa-ʾin tukhfūhā wa-tuʾtūhā l-fuqarāʾa fa-huwa khayrun lakum wa-yukaffiru ʿankum min sayyiʾātikum wa-llāhu bi-mā taʿmalūna khabīrun
It is not bad to give alms in public. However if you give them privately to the poor, it would be better for you and an expiation for some of your sins. God is Well-Aware of what you do.
