Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from Abu al-Sabbah who said: I asked Aba Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about the takbir in the two Eids. Imam عليه السلام said: “Twelve seven in the first and five in the last. So when you stand for the prayer, say one takbirah, and say: ‘I bear witness that there is no God but Allah سبحانه وتعالى, alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم is His عز وجل servant and His عز وجل messenger. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, You عز وجل are worthy of majesty and greatness, and worthy of generosity and might, and power and authority and honor. I ask You عز وجل on this day which You عز وجل have made a feast for the Muslims and a treasure and increase for (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, I ask You عز وجل to bless (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم. And that You عز وجل send blessings upon Your nearest angels and Your commissioned prophets, and that You عز وجل forgive us and all the believing men and believing women, and the Muslim men and Muslim women, the living among them and the dead. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل for the best of what Your commissioned servants have asked You عز وجل for, and I seek refuge in You عز وجل from the worst of what Your sincere servants have sought refuge from. Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest, the First of all things and their Last, the Originator of all things and their End, the Knower of all things and their Return, and the Destination of all things is to Him عز وجل and their Recourse, the Manager of affairs, and the Resurrector of ‘those who are in the graves’ (Surah Al-Adiyat 100:9). Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Accepter of deeds, the Originator of the hidden things, the Revealer of secrets Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest, the One of immense dominion, severe in might, Living who does not die, Everlasting who does not vanish, “When He decrees a matter, He only says to it: Be! and it is.” (Surah Al Imran 3:47) Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest, voices are humbled before You عز وجل, faces submit to You عز وجل, eyes are bewildered before You عز وجل, tongues fall short of expressing Your greatness, all forelocks are in Your hand, and the measures of all matters are in Your care. No one decides in them except You عز وجل, and nothing of them is completed without You عز وجل. Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest Your protection encompasses all things. And Your might has overpowered all things, and Your command has penetrated all things, and all things stand by You عز وجل, and all things have humbled themselves before Your greatness, and all things have been subdued by Your might, and all things have submitted to Your power, and all things have yielded to Your sovereignty. Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest.” Then he recites ‘al-Hamd’ (Surah al-Fatihah) and ‘Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High’ (Surah Al-A’la), and he says the seventh takbirah and bows, and prostrates, and then rises and recites ‘al-Hamd’ (Surah al-Fatihah) and ‘By the sun and its brightness’ (Surah Ash-Shams), and he says: ‘Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah سبحانه وتعالى, alone, with no partner, and that (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم is His عز وجل servant and messenger. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, You عز وجل are worthy of majesty.’”
