Ali ibn Hatim, from Muhammad ibn Abi Abdillah, from Sahl ibn Ziyad, who raised it (in isnad) to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him: Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “O’ Forbearing, O’ Generous, O’ All-Knowing, O’ All-Aware, O’ All-Powerful, O’ All-Dominant, O’ All-Acquainted, O’ Subtle One, O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, O’ my Lord عز وجل, O’ my Master, O’ my Protector, O’ my Hope. I ask You عز وجل to send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And I ask You عز وجل for a breath from Your noble, merciful breaths by which You عز وجل gather my scattered affairs, set right my condition, settle my debt, revive me and my dependents, and make me independent of all others besides You عز وجل. O’ You عز وجل, who are better for me than my father and my mother and all people altogether, Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And do that for me this very hour indeed, You عز وجل have power over all things.” (Imam عليه السلام then continued) “Then do two units of prayer, and when finished, say: “O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, indeed seeking forgiveness while persisting (in sin) is meanness, And my refraining from seeking forgiveness despite my knowledge of Your generosity is weakness. How often do You عز وجل show affection to me through blessings despite Your being free of need from me, And how often do I turn away from You عز وجل through sins, despite my destitute poverty before You عز وجل. O’ You عز وجل who, when He عز وجل promises, fulfills, and when He عز وجل threatens, pardons, Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, And choose for me the better of the two matters with You عز وجل, for indeed forgiveness is of Your nature, and You عز وجل are the Most Merciful of the merciful. O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل by the sanctity of the one who sought refuge in You عز وجل from You عز وجل, and turned to Your might, and took shelter in Your shade, and held fast to Your rope. O’ Abundant Giver of gifts, O’ Liberator of the captives, O’ He عز وجل who named Himself, out of His عز وجل generosity, O’ ‘al-Wahhab’ (the Ever-Bestower). Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and appoint for me, O’ my Master, relief and a way out from my affair, And expansive sustenance as You عز وجل will, in whatever manner You عز وجل will, by whatever means You عز وجل will, and from wherever You عز وجل will for indeed, what You عز وجل will comes to be, when You عز وجل will, in the way You عز وجل will.”
