Abū Muḥammad ʿAbdūs b. ʿAlī b. al-ʿAbbās al-Jurjānī narrated to us at his house in Samarkand, saying that Abū’l-ʿAbbās Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. Marzūq al-Saʿrānī informed him among others, saying that ʿAbd Allāh b. Saʿīd al-Ṭaʿī narrated to him among others, saying that ʿAbbād b. Ṣuhayb narrated to him among others, from Hishām b. Ḥayyān, from al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib عليه السلام, who has stated: “ʿĀʾisha has narrated, at the end of a long narration about the middle night (of Shaʿbān), that the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله said: “It was in this night that my beloved Jibraʿīl
عليه السلام came to me, saying to me: “O’ Muḥammad, inform your community that on the fifteenth night of Shaʿbān, any given one of them should perform a prayer of ten units, and in each unit recite the Opening Chapter of the Book (i.e., Sūrat al-Fātiḥa), and then (the chapter that begins with) ﴾
Say, "He is Allāh, [Who is] One"﴿
[112:1] ten times. And then he should prostrate himself (to Allāh) and say: “O’ Allāh, to You I prostrate with my body, soul, and manifest being, o’ Exalted One more exalted than any other exalted thing, forgive me my cardinal sin, for there is none other than You to forgive, o’ Exalted One.” If he does that, Allāh
عز وجل will erase seventy-two thousand sins from his record, and write seventy-two thousand good deeds in their place like them, and Allāh
عز وجل will also erase seventy-two thousand sins from the record of his parents.”
