حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ خَلَفِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ بِالرَّيِّ فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَ ثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ فِي سَنَةِ ثَمَانٍ وَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَ مِائَتَيْنِ الْمَعْرُوفِ بِإِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ: بَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ نَعْرِضُ مَصَاحِفَنَا عَلَيْهِ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ فَتًى شَابٌّ هَلْ عَهِدَ إِلَيْكُمْ نَبِيُّكُمْ ص كَمْ يَكُونُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ خَلِيفَةٌ قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَحَدَثُ السِّنِّ وَ إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ مَا سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَكَ نَعَمْ عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا نَبِيُّنَا ص أَنَّهُ يَكُونُ بَعْدَهُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ خَلِيفَةً بِعَدَدِ نُقْبَاءِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ.
Narrated to us Abu Ali Ahmad bin Hasan bin Ali Abde Rabb: Narrated to us Abu Zaid Muhammad bin Yahya bin Khalaf bin Yazid Marwazi in Rayy in the month of Rabi al-Awwal of the year 302: Narrated to us Ishaq bin Ibrahim Hanzali in the year 238 – alias Ishaq ibn Rahawi: Narrated to me Yahya bin Yahya: Narrated to us Hisham bin Khalid from Shabi from Masruq that he said: “We were sitting with Abdullah bin Masud when a youth asked Abdullah bin Masud if the Prophet had taken oath for any successor after him. ibn Masud said: You are young in age but you have posed a question that no one has ever asked before. Yes, our Prophet has taken oath from us that after him there will be twelve caliphs, according to the number of the chiefs of Bani Israel.”
