وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ عليه السلام يَقُولَانِ إِنَّ الْعِلْمَ الَّذِي أُهْبِطَ مَعَ آدَمَ لَمْ يُرْفَعْ وَ الْعِلْمُ يُتَوَارَثُ وَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ وَ آثَارِ الرُّسُلِ وَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْ أَهْلِ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ فَهُوَ بَاطِلٌ وَ إِنَّ عَلِيّاً عليه السلام عَالِمُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ وَ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمُتْ مِنَّا عَالِمٌ إِلَّا خَلَّفَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ مَنْ يَعْلَمُ مِثْلَ عِلْمِهِ أَوْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ.
And from the same chain of narrators from Ali bin Mahziyar from Hammad bin Isa from Rabi from Fudhail bin Yasar that he said: I heard Aba Abdillah and Aba Ja’far say: “Verily, the Knowledge that was brought down with Adam was not taken back, it was transferred through inheritance. The knowledge and heritage of prophethood and messengership not related from Ahlul Bayt is false. And Ali is the scholar of the community. And none of us (scholars) passes away but that he leaves behind an inheritor who has similar knowledge or as Allah wills.”
