Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib عليه السلام said: "The guardian of the orphan is in the position of his father; he takes the preemption (shufah) for him if he has a desire for it." Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib عليه السلام also said: "The absentee has the right of preemption (shufah)."
