Sulayman ibn Khalid asked Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq عليه السلام: "Does one who washes the deceased need to perform ghusl (ritual purification)?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "Yes." He then asked: "What about someone who places the deceased in the grave?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "No, because he only touches the clothing."
