Chapter on Touching the Deceased

Hadith #448

448 - وَ سَأَلَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ أَبَا عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ: أَ يَغْتَسِلُ مَنْ غَسَّلَ اَلْمَيِّتَ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قَالَ فَمَنْ أَدْخَلَهُ اَلْقَبْرَ قَالَ «لاَ إِنَّمَا مَسَّ اَلثِّيَابَ.

Hadith.448 - Sulayman ibn Khalid asked Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq : "Does one who washes the deceased need to perform ghusl (ritual purification)?" Imam replied: "Yes." He then asked: "What about someone who places the deceased in the grave?" Imam replied: "No, because he only touches the clothing."
