Al-Kāfi - Volume 3 > Who Can Lawfully Receive Zakat and Who Cannot
Hadith #12

12. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from Mu‘awiyah ibn Wahab who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘They narrate from the Holy prophet, “Charity (Zakat) is not lawful for the rich people, or resourceful strong ones.’” Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, said, ‘It is not proper for the rich people.’”
