My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from al-Haytham b. Abi Masruq al-Nahdi from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from `Abdullah b. Ghalib from Sa`d al-Iskaf from Abi Ja`far al-Baqir . He said: When a believer bathes [the funeral bath of] a believer and says when he turns him over:

“O Allah! This is the body of Your believing servant. You have removed his spirit from it and have separated them. So, Your forgiveness, Your forgiveness (Allahumma hadha badanu `abdikal mu’min wa qad akhrajta ruhahu minhu wa farraqta baynahuma, fa `afwaka `afwak)”, Allah forgives him of a year of his sins, except the major sins.
