Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Faddal from Abi Jamila al-Mufaddal b. Salih from Sa`d b. Turayf from al-Asbagh b. Nubata. He said:

I grasped onto a ride for Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib , and he wanted to ride. So, he raised his head, then smiled. So, I said: O Amir al-Mu’minin! I saw you raise your head and smile! He said: Yes, Asbagh. I held al-Shuhba’ (the Prophet’s mule) for the Messenger of Allah (s), then he raised his head to the sky and smiled. So, I said: “O Messenger of Allah! You raised your head to the sky and smiled!” So, he said: “O `Ali! There is none that rides, recites the Throne Verse (ayat al-kursi), then says: ‘I ask for forgiveness from Allah, besides whom there is no other god, the Living, the Everlasting, and I repent to Him. O Allah! Forgive me my sins, for there is none who forgive sins except You. (istaghfirallah al-lathi la ilaha illa hu al-hayy al-qayyum wa atubu ilayh. Allahummaghfir li dhunubi innahu la yaghfirul dhunub illa ant)’ except that the Generous Master says: ‘O My angels! My servant knows that none forgives sins except Me, so bear witness that I have forgiven his sins.’”
